Well let's start with one of the greatest heavy metal bands of all time, the almighty Anthrax. With them crunchy riffs and hard fast beats no wonder they are where they are now. Though great as it seems, every band has it's weak spots, and it's good spots, so this article is going to show them for you.
Take Among The Living, their greatest ever effort. It had the widely successes:
I Am The Law,
Among The Living,
Caught In A Mosh,
Indians and other awesome pieces of music. The guitars were spot on, went well with the drums and bass, vocals were great, so voerall, a pretty good effort.
Spreading The Disease was their second full length release. As with A.T.L it featured the well known "Madhouse" and the crowd favourite "A.I.R". It was a good effort, but didn't have all the magic of A.T.L.
Volume 8: The Threat Is Real was released in 1998. Old school thrash sort of became quiet in the mid-90's and this was a different style for Anthrax, but a very good one. It wasn't as popluar as the above two, but it was well recieved by the fans.
The Greater Of Two Evils was a classic remake of old school favourites, and this time the fans voted for the tracks on the bands homepage Anthrax.com and forgotten one's for eg. Deathrider, Panic, and Be All, End All. These sound much better updated and with different vocals. So, thumbs up once again.
We've Come For You All and Music Of Mass Destruction are both in same rank. With W.C.Y.F.A it was not as great as the 1998 release Vol.8. Some might have ohter views, but most pople think this. Safe Home and Taking The Muisc Back were good to release as singles, and the rest of the LP was of high quality. The Live album M.O.M.D is basically the greatest hits played live, the sound quality is fine, and the DVD is even better.
The follow up album to A.T.L, State Of Euphoria is a good effort, but doesn't have many strong points. Album opener Be All, End All gives you a good impression so far, but follow up track, Out Of Sight, Out Of Mind let's you down a little. Antisocial, an international track features on this LP. The rest of the album is a bit poor so this is probably for album collectors.
The EP's Im The Man and Armed And Dangerous are pretty equal in many ways. Like, there's a few good melodys for eg. Im The Man itself is pretty melodic, and on A.A.D Raise Hell and Sex Pistols Cover God Save The Queen. I wouldn't personally buy this.
Attack Of The Killer B's was satisfactory, but as a b'sides album it wasn't as great as a proper studio album. Rap collaboration with Public Enemy "Bring The Noise" was huge, so that brought the album some credit, as well as Im The Man. Album completists would probably the best reason to buy this.
Persistence Of Time is worse than S.o.t. Time and Keep It In The Family are the only highlights of the album, so a pretty disappointing effort.
Next up is The Sound Of White Noise. It is the first album featuring John Bush's hard vocals, which are totally different to Joey Belladonna's. Ballad Black Lodge is impressing, along with Potter's Field and 1000 Points Of Hate. It wasn't as good as it should've been.
Fistful Of Metal, their debut album. Neil Turbin's vocals don't match the songs, so it sounds a bit shoddie. Metal Thrashing Mad is probably one of the only tracks that survived concert setlists, with the occassional Panic. This is practically a forgotten classic album, but the line-up wasn't sorted, so you can understand.
Live: The Island Years was pointless in my view. It had no need of releasing, unless you had never seen them live on TV or heard them. The vocals aren't as good as studio (which you find with over half performing bands) but puffing and panting is occassional. At times the music is to fast, for eg. N.F.L. If you really want to buy this, then you can, but i wouldn't.
Stomp 442. Poor. Terrible. Bad. The riffs and beats aren't rhythmic, the verses and choruses and that catchy, but Fueled still remains in the live setlist. If you are a completist, buy it, if not, it's not worth the bother.
I haven't heard the Penikufesin E.P so i can't really judge this.
I hope you enjoyed this, and this will come of use to some of you, I hope!
