Comedy Rock: Top 8 Rock Parodies
Being a fairly vast musical genre, rock is approached in different ways by various artists, ranging from utterly serious prog rockers to full-on ridiculous comedy rock guys.

We'll focus on the latter group in our brief rundown of Top 8 rock parodies. By the way, do you think rock is something that should be parodied in the first place?

Frank Zappa - "Crew Slut"

The guy who took the comedy approach to artistic heights, the legendary Frank Zappa rightfully gets to open the list as the ultimate great. "Crew Slut" is just one of the tracks on his 1979 effort "Joe's Garage," a true gem featuring not only hilarious tunes, but moments of genuine guitar mastery. Check out "Watermelon in Easter Hay" if you don't get our drift.

Weird Al Yankovic - "Smells Like Nirvana"

Switching to direct comedy music, Weird Al Yankovic still successfully makes the crowd laugh with his renditions of pop and rock classics. One of them is a "Smells Like Teen Spirit" parody titled "Smells Like Nirvana."

Steel Panther - "Death to All But Metal"

As pretty much the most prominent comedy metal act these days, Steel Panther are rocking it hard, earning more props from the rock community than many "serious" acts out there.

The Muppets - "Bohemian Rhapsody"

The Muppets created possibly their most popular tune by paying tribute to one of the greatest songs of all time - Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody." Speaking of which, do you remember that drunk guy singing in a cop car?

Tenacious D - "Kickapoo"

Jack Black had to find his spot on the list and what better tune than "Kickapoo"? The track comes off "The Pick of Destiny" movie, a must-see in the comedy rock domain.

Spinal Tap - "The Majesty of Rock"

Spinal Tap are definitely one of the first band to pop up when it comes to comedy rock, and rightfully so, as the guys have a near-iconic status within the genre.

Nickelback Parody - "Look at This Instagram"

This hilarious parody of Nickelback's "Photograph" surfaced back in 2012 and still perfectly reflects an average obsessed Instagram user. But does it beat the original?

Dethklok - "Murderface's Bass Solo"

We'll just end it here with the single greatest bass solo of all time.

Got any comedy rock gems to share? And still the big question - should we make fun of rock in the first place? Let us know in the comments.
