Fresh Faces in Music: 8 New Bands You Must Hear
A lot of music fans claim that rock and metal are very much dead, but would you agree? Can you think of any awesome new faces to prove this theory wrong? And we don't mean just the ground-breakers and trend-setters, any plain cool band would do for a start. We noted down a few of our picks, check them out and then share your favorites in the comments.

Royal Blood

Formed in early 2012, Royal Blood are a rock duo consisting of Michael Kerr on bass and vocals and Ben Thatcher on drums. The guys pack quite a punch with their riff-based approach, drawing comparisons to such class acts as the White Stripes and Queens of the Stone Age. Definitely check them out.

Haken

If you're a prog fan, Haken's latest album "The Mountain" is a record you cannot allow yourself to miss. You could confidently say that London-based prog metallers delivered one of the genre's best and most underrated efforts in 2013. Founded in 2007, they'll be performing at 2014's Progressive Nation at Sea, definitely give them a listen.

Phantogram

Founded in 2007, electro rock duo Phantogram features Josh Carter on vocals and guitars and Sarah Barthel on vocals and keyboards. The band scored their first hit with "When I'm Small" track off their 2009 debut record "Eyelid Movies." Give it a listen below.

Black Crown Initiate

Switching into the more extreme metal domain, Black Crown Initiate describe themselves as "the sound of a sentient being at war with itself and everything else." Founded in 2012, the band drew comparisons to the Opeth vibe influenced by various extreme styles. They'll be out on Metal Alliance Tour this spring with Behemoth and Goatwhore, make sure to check them out.

Radkey

Punk rock act Radkey consists of three young brothers - Dee, Isaiah and Solomon. The boys are clearly talented, check them out as they rip it up on Jools Holland with "Out Here in My Head."

Pellek

A high-pitched treat for all the power metal fans, Pellek are a Norwegian band whose singer you might know from his YouTube cover videos. Check out their "Northern Wayfarer" tune below.

Meg Myers

Alt rock singer and former Jehovah's Witness Meg Myers kicked off her musical career in 2011 and is already drawing comparisons to such esteemed artists as Patti Smith, Sinead O'Connor and Fiona Apple. Make sure to give her "Heart Heart Head" single a listen or two.

Caligula's Horse

We'll round it up with another dose of prog, this time around coming from Australian progressive alt rockers Caligula's Horse. Active since 2011, the band lists Devin Townsend, Opeth, Steely Dan and Jeff Buckley among top influences. Check out their "The Tide, the Thief & River's End" record below.

Is there still hope for rock and metal? And have you got any new bands to single out? Share your thoughts and support in the comments.
