Ultimate Guitar's Top Band Profiles Of 2007 |

They were impossible to ignore. Whether it was because of their ear-catching MP3s or their jaw-dropping lack of talent, 4 bands featured in Ultimate Guitar’s new profile section received more views than any of the 5,000-plus others. When it came down to it, there was not much common ground among the bands that had the most profile hits. At one of the end of the spectrum was a gothic sextet with a heavy keyboard presence, and at the other side was a group of young lads that have perfected the art of playing songs that, although full of offbeat topics (Marxism and diarrhea, anyone?), surprisingly suck you in. What a diverse bunch we have out there in Ultimate Guitar Land.
If you haven’t already taken time to check out the likes of Post Modern Sounds or Sinnair, spend a few minutes scanning over what have been officially crowned as the must-see band profiles. Take into consideration that a lot of the groups are still young and perfecting their craft, so don’t be surprised if not every song is recorded in a professional studio. Love them or hate them, here are the bands that enticed the UG Community like no others.
Amplify This!
1093 profile views
Location: Great Britain
Genres: Punk Rock
Link: artists.ultimate-guitar.com/amplifythis
The MP3s are sparse on the profile for Amplify This!, but what is lacking in quantity the band made up for with their blend of energetic pop-punk. The 2 MP3s featured on the profile are actually just different versions of the track “Rock With Me,” with one being a stripped-down demo that actually sounds quite a bit different than the full-band recording. Although the band is currently dedicated to the pop-punk genre, a few of their influences (Reel Big Fish and Less Than Jake) might just eventually persuade these boys to add a few horns to the lineup. For as fresh-faced and young-hearted as the musicians appear to be (we love the South Park rendition of the band, by the way), the songwriting already shows plenty of promise – with or without the addition of ska in their future.
MP3 To Check Out: The demo for “Rock With Me” features no percussion and surprisingly ends up sounding a bit grittier and more punk-inspired than the cleaned-up version.
Sundial
1375 profile views
Location: Russia
Genres: Sympho Black Metal, Gothic, Doom, Epic, Atmosphere
Link: artists.ultimate-guitar.com/sundial
Out of all of the top band profiles, Sundial opted for a more dramatic path. Probably the most interesting element is the contrasting styles of keyboardist/vocalist Anastacia Kuznetsova and singer Dimitrii “Wolf” Muratov, who have polar opposite musical deliveries that keep things interesting. While Sundial lists sympho black metal as one of their genre styles, the guitar-oriented, edgy side is often kept in check more so than a lot of black metal bands out on the scene today. The quintet doesn’t shy from their darker nature, but it is usually balanced out by airy keyboard/piano solos that often are featured for long periods of time within each song.
MP3 To Check Out: “Doubts” includes Sundial’s trademark synth lines, but you’ll also get an unexpected Rammstein-like vocal that immediately makes it stand out from the rest.
Sinnair
1418 profile views
Location: Madrid
Genres: Modern Rock, Alternative, Progressive Rock, Metal
Link: artists.ultimate-guitar.com/sinnair
If there is one band that could likely have a hit on the Billboard rock charts within the next year, Sinnair would be a top candidate. By the look of their list of influences (Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Motorhead, The Mars Volta), it’s obvious that they know what it takes to construct a memorable song as well. The MP3s listed on their profile were obviously recorded in some sort of studio environment, but it’s not just pristine sound quality that translates into solid songwriting. Along with guitarist PT’s incredible riff work and vocalist Heras’ impressive range, Sinnair’s songs are skillfully composed and will probably click with a wide range of listeners.
MP3 To Check Out: “Wine & Cigarettes” is one of the more laid-back rock tracks and accentuates how similar Heras sounds like Alter Bridge’s Myles Kennedy at times.
Post Modern Sounds
1494 profile views
Location: Connecticut, USA
Genres: Proto Post Progressive, Melodic Death Pop Core
Link: artists.ultimate-guitar.com/pomos
From the sound of the band’s name, you might be expecting a cutting-edge, possibly experimental collection of tracks. While that doesn’t precisely describe Post Modern Sounds, the band still has a style that stops you in your tracks. Sure, songs like “Lucy In The Sky With Diarrhea” and “Ozzy Osbourne’s Brother” might seem a little odd at first, but that’s exactly what is so intriguing about the trio. You can hear a whole lot of influences running amok in their MP3s, with “The Little Marxist That Couldn’t” sounding like everything from a Mark Knopfler number to a Dead Kennedys’ hit. But perhaps the biggest tell-tale sign that this band is unique comes in the UG readers’ comments. Blackflag49 wrote “You guys rawk,” while whatup1234 couldn’t resist saying, “You guys suck so bad, your (sic) not gonna make it anywhere.” With all of the passion flying around, it might just mean that Post Modern Sounds could be the next big thing in the rock world.
MP3 To Check Out: Although every song will give you the full Post Modern Sounds experience, “Blue Box Bed” has an infectious little riff to round out all of the beautiful oddity.

: The main problem with the post modern guys is that singer. He either needs to shut the f**k up and play bass or drop the bass and focus on vocals. It really, really sounds like he cant do them at the same time.POSTED: 01/01/2008 - 11:10 am / quote |

: sinnair and sundial sound like decent serious bands ready to make a go of it in the music industry, the other two sound like school kid bands who need to tighten up ALOT before they're ready for that. And one of them, I think it's Amplify This, sounds a helluva lot like Wheatus!POSTED: 01/01/2008 - 08:44 pm / quote |
