Dumpster510 :
Umm ok you introduced modal pentatonics but you made no mention of how the apply to the other minor modes the in the same way they do the natural minor. Furthermore you didn't talk about the real use of modal pentatonics, which is using them with the lydian, mixolydian, and locrian scales. It would have been appropriate to show how they're played over certain chords as well. Good intro article but here's a much more thorough one: http://www.ibreathemusic.com/article/178

BrandNewSin17 :
Why exactly would you want to stick to just pentatonic?

Chris Martins :
To those who liked the article, thanks a bunch, more is on the way...

To Dumpster510, notice it's Modal Pentatonics 101, not "Master all the modes from a 700 word article"... More articles are coming about this topic, and many more topics for integration and real-life applications of this concept. Also, there are so many ways to use this concept BEYOND using them with minor modes, that I didn't want to write a book about it in a single installment. So I decided to only write an INTRODUCTION to my angle on the concept. No absolute truth here. Only my take on the topic...

To BrandNewSin17, you don't want to stick only to pentatonics, but introducing the modes in this way is pretty easy to newcomers to that sort of thing.

Oh by the way, there seems to be a picture missing right after this "Now, try counting the following over the next diagram : 1, 3, 4, 5, 7, 1. ". The pic should be a 1 octave minor pentatonic shape. I'll see what I can do to have this corrected...

I think this was a very helpful article for people unfamiliar with the subject. Of course there is more to be learned, there always is. I think people should keep their nitpicking to themselves unless they have a better article somewhere. I'm looking forward to the next article. Good job!

Dumpster510 :
I understand. I still feel like you did a poor job at showing/explaining what they are. And I didn't say anything about showing everything about modal pentatonics. It's just that if I were a beginner and read this article I don't really see what I would get out of it other than removing the two and the six from the minor scale gives you a pentatonic scale. No hostility here just honesty

Chris Martins :
Well, constructive criticism is always useful. If that's all you'd have gotten out, considering the way the article is written, then I think you didn't really get what I really was moving towards as the article clearly goes from pentatonic scales towards modes and not the other way around.

As long as other people find this helpful, it's ok really.
