Interesting read. It didn't really inform me of anything I didn't already know, but it was interesting nonetheless. Don't forget about audio cassettes though!

You should edit this. There are too many paragraphs that are just useless bits of information that ultimately don't build to anything important.

Actually, anthropological studies of aboriginal tribes today show that music's primary function in human evolution (if you believe in such a thing) has not actually been or strictly for entertainment, but for educational purposes. For example, the Aborigines of Australia, still to this day sing songs daily in which the lyrics describe the geographical features of their land, in other words the song is their map of the land. Music is often used as a mnemonic device for little children even today, because for one reason or another, it is easier to memorize song than in it is to memorize rote language.

I realize this was not the true intention of your article, but I wanted to point out that your beginning premise was slightly mistaken.

"Is the reason that record labels and bands choose to distribute them purely for nostalgia purposes only?"
Well even my dad's knackered out version of Free's 'Fire And Water' on vinyl sounds a million times more pleaseing than any cd or mp3 release of it...

Also its a good article. It kind of points out the obvious but its good to see it all together and putting some perspective on the current music distribution arguments
