improvisin' yeah cool learn the modes and never get out of the box for the modes so that u don't get off notes and put some cool bends vibrato whammy slides pull off and other techniques

I agree that techniques like bends and vibrato are very important! Learning the modes is just a way to make playing easier, since you don't have to work as hard to find the "right" notes. My own playing became much more expressive after I learned the modes.

one key thing you forgot to mention. and although learning modes is part of this theres alot more to it. LEARN FREAKING THEORY!!!!! if you don't know what notes make up the G chord then you fail as a guitarist
