This is my view and something I feel very strongly about. I just simply can't stand anybody saying anything like 'rap is s***', because, even though I don't like most rap, I can still come across a rap song that I really like every now and then. People should be more open minded about all types of music.
There are a lot of things that this doesn't mean. This doesn't mean that you need to be man of all things. It is still fine to dismiss a song or a band if they're terrible because hey, loads are. This also doesn't mean you must loe everything and have a complete music library of every single type of music known to man. People should still have favourites and prefer genres to others, and buy what they like. This is just simply about not entirely rejecting a whole type of music because what they've heard they haven't liked. Everything will have substance if you dig deep enough.
Now you could argue that I am contradicting myself due to my personal dislike of pretty much everything pop, (not because I'm indie, but because whats in the charts these day is purely commercial and has no soul), but pop isn't really a genre. Pop music is 'popular music', so the songs that are at the top of the charts. And I take the Men In Black view that 'A person is Stupid, people are smart'. I could go on a double tangent about why pop music is bad 'The Archie's Argument', and simultaneously why music is still good 'Only Treasures are Preserved Argument', but that's not the point I'm making here. The point I'm making is that pop doesn't count because rather then being a type of music, it is a type of song.
