Jimmy Page sucks at guitar.
That probably got your attention. Dear apologies to Jimmy Page and all fans (I am a fan myself), but I bet most people immediately scrolled down to write a hate comment.
This article has nothing to do with Jimmy Page; however, it has come to my attention that the UG community is always fighting over some random joke people popped in or flaming some artist or whatever. I'm no preacher, but I'm a devoted musician and use this site for musical reference and news, and it's great - I've been using it for years now. But like I said, I use it for musical purposes; to share ideas/opinions, be inspired, learn, teach, about music and fellow guitarists.
I think of UG as an online bar that dudes come in, have a beer, and discuss stuff with friends or new people you happen to meet - and like any other place in the world, there are the enthusiasts, theory freaks, experts, and novice players. Usually don't walk into a bar prepared to punch someone because they have different opinions from me.
OK, there the exceptions of those who throw totally unreasonable, insensible things out into the universe (I don't mean to be a hypocrite, but Axl... I used to be a big fan, dude) that do deserve a beating, but otherwise, why get worked up about somebody's thoughts or a little comment? Is it because we're a bunch of dudes that like rock and metal? Ego battle (Charlie Murphy)? Genuine pondering; no sarcasm intended.
Don't mean to sound like a counselor or anything, just my 2 cents. UG has been awesome and it'd be great if it kept being awesome for as long as there's something to be learned about music (forever). Kudos to those who took the time to read this article.
