Christian Rock

Wow!! I never knew christian music whould start so much contraversy. A lot of people will say that christian music is just sucking up to God. Here are some bands that i think are really worth a listen.

MxPx - Most of their songs ren't christian but they are still classified as a christian band. Most of their songs talk about stuff that most punk bands talk about. Good for fans of Blink 182, Good Charlotte, and Simple Plan.

Kutless - Most of the songs are christian but they deal with stuff that goes on in everyday life. Good for fans of Creed, Puddle Of Mudd, and Godsmack.

Skillet - Their songs usually talk about how they are broken and need God. Good for fans of Marilyn Manson, Disturbed, and Mudvayne.

Switchfoot - Not necessarily a christina band but they still have music that has a christian message.

P.O.D. - Most of you know who they are. They are a christian band that does lots of stuff in the mainstream.

Demon Hunter - Good nu-metal band. For fans of Slipnot, Disturbed, and Tool.

Relient K - Most of their lyrics are just corny stuff. For fans of good Charlotte, Blink 182, Simple Plan, Sum 41.

If you give christian music a chance you might find you like it.

Not really an article, you could have just posted this on a forum, but anyway nice try. I don't see the need for people to declare they're christian bands, I mean everyone has their own beliefs and as long as they're sincere and the music is good, it's good enough for me.

why cant the bands just be bands and not have labels like 'Christian' in front of them. it's silly. they make music according to thier faith, they are true to themselves which is well and good. but i just wish people would drop the labelling..

Yeah, I hate the whole labeling thing too. Just because a band is "christian" alot of people automatically asume that the music is all soft and crappy. It isnt fair to bands like Demon hunter, Zao, and Norma Jean that play some awesome metal.

Good point, but one correction, switchfoot was a very mainstreem CHRISTIAN band! I don't know what they call them selfs now, but they were in JUST christian music for a long time. They were kind of a Jars of Clay, Third day, Delirious, Newsboys type band. A lot of people now are saying, no no they aren't christian and maybe they aren't now I really don't know but I do know for a long time they were very strictly christian, just since they came out on regular radio people think they are a new band, but they're not.

I think christian music is trying to expend its horizon a little. On the new demon hunter cd it has guest appearances from: 36crazyfists, Killswitch engage and The agony scene. Some other good "christian" bands are: Thousand Foot Krutch(Rock), As I Lay Dying(Metal), Disciple(Metal), and Blindside (Nu-Rock).

another good Christian band is Stutterfly, slowly making their way up the ladder. very good Christian music, and indirectly related things sometimes(one song is about gun control, another is about racism). check them out sometime. they play some real good screamo/melodic hardcore, and their live shows are amazing.

This article had no logical thought process at all. Dude, if you're gonna write an article have a purpose to it other than naming a few bands who might well be Christian oriented.

I'm a big fan of Christian music, but this article is useless and poorly done. It is just a list of this person's favorite bands, which really isn't worth an article. I do enjoy some of the bands he listed though, such as Kutless, Relient K, and Switchfoot. There are many other good Christian artists such as Jeremy Camp, 12 Stones, Steven Curtis Chapman, and Michael W. Smith (though he isn't really rock).

Benjaminr- I would download 'best kept secret', 'Alien youth' and 'savoir' those are (in my opinion) the best 3 songs off there last 3 cd's. They have moved from like a techno, industrial rock to just plain rock. I think these songs show there progression through that. I think 'best kept secret' is the best song off of there best cd 'invincible'

I think that this article is great. the very point is try to listen to some christian bands and listen very well. maybe you'll see in some view that christian music doesn't suck... it rocks!!!

please, dont assume that if we listen to disturbed, slipknot, godsmack etcetc, that we will like certain bands as well

because those bands have nothing to do with christanity at all

another mainstream band that also has some very powerful messages is Hoobastank. Their song The Reason, although they said that it was not a religion based song, if you look at the lyrics from a christian standpoint, it's message is very powerful.

Well same goes for athiest bands..... Many death metal bands publicly announce (or at least in their songs) that they don't believe in God, but worship the devil, etc.... And, if you didn't know, music now a days, isnt just about dancing, or in our case, playing the guitar... Now most songs have meaning to them and show what the band/artist is going through... And if a band highly believes in God, then its totally normal for them to express their views...

He might mean it in the way that if you like his music, not necesarily his attitude or belief, then you might like this band.... (Not all Manson fans are saitanists or atheists, and neither are all P.O.D fans christians)...

a good "christian" band is Third Day, they have some pretty good tunes. the band Eternal Decision also has a few good songs, particularly the song "Hunger". some would call them a Metallica rip-off, but that doesnt' matter.

I don't agree with the ones who say that fans of Marilyn Manson and Slipknot will not like these band. I got many slipknot cds and a Marilyn Manson cd but I also have Zao, Demon Hunter and Lamb of God cd and I like all of them. I'm just open minded (sry for spelling i'm not english:p)

I believe the label exists because these bands have beliefs and they classify themselves so other Christians can enjoy their music. There are millions of Christians out there (myself included) who enjoy Rock/Metal music but don't care for the "extreme" lyrics offered by secular bands such as Marilyn Manson. IMHO

Yes. i totally agree with shepheml. As a Christian, it makes it easier to find good rock bands without having to listen to other bands whose lyrics are "hardcore". Why does it matter if a band wants to say they are Christian? I believe that they are making a very strong stand for our religion and I give them a lot of credit for that. As far as MxPx goes, they have awesome love songs as well as good mellow Christian songs. They rule! Have a good day!

Somebody check out 38th Paralell...12 Stones and Thousand Foot Krutch rock harder than any of them, Skillet has a killer techno vibe to them that reminds me of Nince Inch Nails and Linkin Park and the vocalist really sounds like Gavin Rossdale of Bush. Alien Youth is their best and most hardcore, in my opinion.

personally, i think that if you need an extra "something" to sell your music, even if it's a religious standpoint, your music is obviously unable to stand on it's own. it's one thing if a band gets big, and then simply mentions that, by the way, they are christian, then that's cool. but if your band is billed as "the next big thing for christian rock" or anything like that, then you are obviously just working the God angle, and should not be a musician.

Gs Megaphone has a good guitarist. Switchfoot has agood guitarist. He used to be the only guitarist. When he was the only guitarist he played some cool parts and could sing with them. There are some good christian guitarists you just have to look for them.

Hey, PychoArtRocker. I am not trying to be mean, I swear, I like everyone, but I would say christian rock is the most rebellous type out there. Sin and satan now rule the planet. This planet is corrupted by our lust for sex, lust for money, lust for blood, you know, things like that. Bands that just talk about killing people or having sex with everyone thay meet are just conforming to what satan wants them to be. They are puppets-slaves to their own flesh. lol this is funny ..good comments all around ... the decision is simple however...christian bands message should reflect their faith..if it dosent it shows they are only half hearted in what they believe in. The message of the bible from a christian point of view is to spread the message of Christ and if their not doing that in any way then well ..there doing it for something else it would seem.The reason christians look for that is because they arent going to listen to manson or slipknot etc etc anything that has lyrics that go against thier belief that woule be soo contradictory and i would question their reasoning.
