Morning, guys. Or afternoon, or twilight, or dark side of the moon - wherever you are, and welcome to In Strum Mental (no relation to any pre-existing songs/French bands). This will be a weekly (depending on how quickly it is added to the site) column series about each of my - and your - favourite bands.
Bear in mind that everything here is entirely my own opinion, and I'm voicing it. You can do the exact same thing in the comments. If you think the band sucks like Indie Punk (NOT my opinion - it rhymed (did it?)), then say so. If you think its the best thing since "Adventure Time" (my opinion), then say so. Complete freedom of opinion here and no comment will be taken personally.
Also, if you feel that you want to give your own point of view on the band for yourself (see what I mean below) then go right ahead. If you want to say "Favourite Song: None, they suck" by all means, do it.
Note: the Band Colour segment has nothing to do with the name. It's what fits in with the band through their music style, music videos and messages.
So without further ado, here is the In Strum Mental review for Green Day:
Band Name: Green Day
Band Colour: Green
Favourite Song: "Scattered"
Favourite Album: "Bullet In A Bible"
Favourite Member: Tre Cool (drummer)
Favourite Concert: London, 2005, Milton Keyes Stadium
Favourite Lyrics: "I'm the son of rage and love, the Jesus of Suburbia"
Green Day Quote: "We're like sex: even when we're bad we're still good" ~ Mike Dirnt
Trivia: They named themselves Green Day because they used to sell joints at school.
Easily my favourite band playing one of my favourite genres of all: Punk! (Although I like British Punk mostly). They have changed a lot since their Geek Stink Breath days though. The eyeliner is gone and Billie Joe is in rehab. Their music is really watered down from the intense I-don't-care-what-I'm-doing-but-I'm having-fun-doing-it attitude that they had with their "Minority"-style songs. It pains me to say this, it really does, but I feel that their angry, powerful songs - and therefore their best songs - are behind them. Even so, I would not like to see an end to them altogether and would love to see them live in concert one day.
There you go UG-ers! My ISM review for Green Day. I have a few bands lined up already for review but which would you like me to review next? If I get the column added to the site I'll give you a mention in the summary - just because. Anything you want me to add to the review? Anything I should take out? See you next week (maybe sooner) with Nirvana! Until then, everyone!
