Linkin Park to play in Malaysia

Linkin Park have received the government's permission to perform this month (October) in Malaysia ? but they won't be allowed to scream, jump around or wear shorts onstage, according to the Associated Press. The Ministry of Culture and Arts said it has approved plans for the band to hold a concert on Oct. 15 at a 50,000-seat stadium in this conservative, predominantly Muslim Southeast Asian country.

"The government believes the performance will provide an alternative type of entertainment in Malaysia," the ministry said, while warning that the rock stars must abide by a strict code of "artist performance ethics."

"Male artists must cover their bodies from the chest to knee level," the statement said. "The artist must not display rough, raunchy actions that conflict with pure values, such as leaping around, screaming or throwing something from the stage to the audience,"

The code also prohibits any sexually provocative gestures or speech, as well as clothing or accessories that can be considered "obscene, linked to drugs or related to negative elements."

Western entertainers are popular in Malaysia, but they often bypass this country of 25 million people in their Asian tours for more lucrative stops with larger audiences.

Linkin Park's concert in Kuala Lumpur will be the first stop in a three-nation Asian tour that also includes Japan and South Korea.

Though their songs contain plenty of frenzied rhythms and lyrics dealing with frustration and fury, LINKIN PARK are known for not peppering songs with explicit words. Bandmates make it a point to avoid alcohol and drugs.

Hey to every umm intellectually challanged lady and gentleman who had the desire to bag LP. Not only they do not suck, but they are very talented musicians. How many bands do you hear that sound like them? Do'nt say Limp Bizkit or Evanescence coz if u do u really need a hearing aid. Their songs are cleverly composed - they write songs, not a vocal track, a bass track, a guitar track and drums put together. Just because Bennington can sing better than most people who wrote the "LP sux" comments, and they are just plain ***ing jealous. Not to take away from Metallica, who are an amazing band, not to mention the fact that they are still intact,.. but LP are brilliant songs writers. A lot of bands will just stick to one formula and make 10 f***ng albums with 12 songs per cd that sound f****ng the same,. If you cared to listen to records, you'd realise, unless you're pissed or stoned wich a lot of haters probably are - every song is different, the lyrics are captivating, the songs are catchy and just plain good. Zakk Wylde likes them too, mind you. They don't have guitar wizardry, because it's not required. In fact, it would be a mistake to put one in their songs, it's not what they're about. But for the uneducated, their knowledge of music theory, for example, will probably kick anyone's ass of those people who bag LP. Anyone who reads Guitar World will agree. For example, they use the 2 vocalists like a lead and a rhythm instrument, rather than just one guy with backup vocals. They are very different in their own sort of way, and hey, at least they're not fake gangsta-rappers!

i personaly think linkin park are great. i believe that they are variety. i can't think of many other rock bands that have a full length song on their album that's just dj stuff, just to give you a break from all the yelling and stuff. they're new, they aren't very experienced. give them a chance. like that UG Stranger said, at least they're doing something with their lives. You say that all chester can do is scream. But have you ever tried to sing one of their songs. Exactly the way they do. Chester has a good vocal range, his screams are higher and harder to do than you might think. No, they don't do a lot of cool guitar riffs, but they told someone in an interview that they didn't want to fill empty spaces in a songs with guitar solos but with words. It's not that their guitarist is talentless, I was watching the behind the scenes dvd and he was playing some songs from other bands and he is pretty freakin' good. So stop bashing linkin park.
