Metallica Vs. Megadeth

In 1982, when Metallica was just starting out as a Californian underground metal band, Dave Mustaine walked onto the band as their lead guitarist. A year and a half later, Dave Mustaine was fired from the band for bieng drunk and bieng disrespectful to friends and family. Dave formed Megadeth in 1984, hoping to out-metal Metallica. Metallica wasn't the least bit surprised or disturbed by this.

On Medadeth's side: James had fired Dave in a very disrespectful way. He gave him a bus ticket and told him to be gone in fifteen minutes. James could have done that in a much nicer or at least respectful way. He could have told Dave why he needed to leave the band. James could have also told him before that he was bieng an "ass" and he needed to stop his rediculous behavior or things would get serious.

On Metallica's side: Dave took this all to personally. First of all he should have seen it coming. He had kicked James' dog, cursed at James' family, and trashed every room he went into. He also acted very childish by starting a rivalry between His band and James'. He should have just gotten over it and continued with his music life.

As a result of this feud, fans were split. Metallica and Megadeth fans would fight and argue about the whole thing. Both James and Dave acted childish by trying to "out-music" or "out-sale" each other.

Finally the fued came to a hault ten years afterwards. Metallica found themselves touring with Megadeth and soon they were on stage together. The bands were able to set aside all of thier revenge driven anger and were able to tour together. In James' words "the ten years of bullshit between Metallica and Megadeth is done".

But even after that, Dave and Metallica were still very sour with each other. Neither band wanted to ever communicate with each other unless it was absolutely necessary. Dave, Lars, and James were all the best of friends at one point. Why did they have to break up thier friendship over the rivalry between two great metal bands? Why did they choose to throw away thier friendship just to see who could record a better album?

Metallica should have given Dave a little more credit for his time and effort into the band. Dave needs to get over the fact that he was fired from the band and move on with his life because he still hasn't. Why can they not do this?

I agree that Dave Mustaine is a better guitaist, but i find that Kirk using his Wah puts a whole lot more emotion into the music then Daves's does. Calling someone mexican isn't an insult if they are. It seems that all the other people believe being mexican is a bad thing. How in the world is Metallica any more original than Megadeth? You say Megadeth sounds a lot like Iron Maiden, which is probably the stupidest thing I've ever heard. Bruce Dickinson's voice, for one thing, is almost the complete opposite of Dave's. Maiden uses a lot of guitar harmony, whereas Megadeth focuses more on fast rhythms and solo fills here and there. Iron Maiden write songs about history and war battles, whereas Megadeth just writes about mainly death and suffering... just in general.
If you're going to say that, then let's just say Metallica sounds just like Black Sabbath or Diamond Head. Not too fair, is it? Well, the bridge riff in "Fade to Black" sounds almost identical to Black Sabbath's "A National Acrobat" intro riff. Just about all of their old stuff was a carbon copy of Diamond Head, only with a slightly more annoying vocalist (although I really shouldn't be trashing Hetfield for his vocals... I have to admit, back in the day he was pretty awesome). Megadeth just seemed to have a more musical approach, especially in their earlier albums, whereas Metallica just played really fast, which really gets on your nerves after a while.
However, I really don't like taking sides in this argument, that's exactly what the media wants you to do. So, I'll just close by saying both bands kick ass, and think next time before saying Megadeth sound like Maiden, because that's just a stupid comment.

WHAT? Megadeth is a lot more "metal" than Metallica. Sure, Metallica's first four albums were straight-up metal (well, Kill 'Em All actually was more thrash), but Megadeth has consistently been more metal than Metallica. Not that one's better than the other, it's just that Megadeth is more "metal" than Metallica.
Plus, after the Black Album came out, Metallica's metal was pretty much gone. From then on they were pretty much mainstream rock, whereas even newer Megadeth would still be considered metal.

And incase you people haven't noticed, there is no better guitarist..hammet nor mustaine. They're both very talented and have contributed alot to metal guitar, and like someone up there said it's just a matter of what appeals to you more. No matter what you think (unless you are someone important which you are not, you're probably a shit eater tryin' to make his way in the world like me) it's not going to effect one entire person on this site. So comments starting with "I think" or "In my opinion" are completely and utterly useless, yet terribly interesting. I have learned that it is useless to even state these type comments, and most of you will learn that this is true soon enough. **self contradiction** In my opinion though dudes, I think mustaine is the better guitarist as far as technicallity and musical structure are concerned, but as far as just sitting down and listenin' to some guitar playin', I prefer Hammet any day. Hammet is someone I idolize after watching some kind of monster and when metallica ruled the world, because he took so much shit and was looked down on so much yet he still stayed with metallica and did so well. Dave should be admired in the same aspect however because he came back from all that shit he went through with james and lars (i'm sure no one will no what REALLY caused them to break up) but whatever it is, he came back from it and broke some boundarys and made a really great thing happen. I'm glad to have had the priveledge to listen to either of these bands, as I know they are far talented than I'll ever even dream of being. Then again, this is all my opinion...
