Music That Is Actually Worth A Damn 2
Well, let's start with the simple fact that google searching Gallows immediately takes you to pictures of hung criminals. These images are not exactly far from the sound we are about to be graced with. Gallows is a hardcore punk band that seems to be able to find that perfect balance of British thump and cleanness while incorporating the American breakdown style for heavier parts here and there; kind of like a proverbial 2012 saltshaker. For you punk elitists who need some kind of nod from past generations to accept anything new Gallows is signed to Epitaph Records. One of the best punk labels to ever exist... Actually maybe even THE best. Just an example of bands currently signed to Epitaph: Alkaline Trio, Bad Religion (owner of Epitaph is B.R. guitarist Brett Gurewitz), Converge, Every Time I Die, The Menzingers, Propaghandi, Pennywise, Rancid, Social Distortion, Weezer. Hailing from Watford England; the band was formed in 2005, they have released two full length albums titled "Orchestra Of Wolves" and "Grey Britain". Brett of Epitaph has been stated as saying that Gallows is "the new old punk band". With songs like "Abandon Ship", "In The Belly Of A Shark", "Crucif--ks" and "Misery" its hard to argue with his statement. Frank Carter was a great frontman leading the band up until 2011. With a British hardcore voice that is practically unmatchable it appeared for Gallows fans that their time was done. Luckily for all of us in the world; Wade MacNeil (of Alexisonfire fame) took over for departing Frank taking the band in a heavier and more North American style. The instruments on the new tracks that have been released are much more distorted and Wade has a rough voice punk fans can love but it clearly lacks the British accent. Online it appears the general consensus is that Frank was Gallows but Wade is pretty much the best possible replacement. It would be like if John Bonham had never died but instead left Led Zeppelin and Neil Peart joined them upon his departure. Both are incredible but of course Zeppelin fans would always give the big ups to the original member. Gallows is the perfect blend of punk in my personal opinion. They still have the clean-ness and warmth to their tracks that stops it from being metal but the vocals are about as hardcore as you can get without breaking your speakers. The drummer (Lee Barratt) is one of the best punk drummers out there and the guitars just make you want to punch your fist into something. From a guitar player standpoint their riffs are technical enough to give a challenge to most musicians while still being able to have a few brews and run around on stage (or in your basement). The new Gallows album is set to be released on the 10th of THIS MONTH! Their website is one of the best I have ever seen giving free downloads to their new tracks with a simple email unlock. For those who still can't be bothered this song should send you scrambling for the site. This is a track from their first album "Orchestra Of Wolves" still featuring Frank Carter.
Thanks to Epitaph Records for the video. For those who are interested in hearing the latest single titled "Last June" sporting new frontman Wade - check out this location. Well that sums up this week; this is a band I truly feel deserves to be up there with the likes of black flag; rancid; bad religion, circle jerks and the casualties. I don't know them personally but I've been to two of their shows and both left me feeling satisfied and happy for weeks. The way going out and moshing around to heavy ass music can make you so sedated is beyond me. But this band while let you get out all that built up rage. Listening to Gallows for 15-20 minutes a day will definitely help manage those inner demons and anger. Cheers! Hope you all get the same joy out of their music as I have!
