sambargun :
A very general article but with a very simple and often ignored message which is to keep an open ear towards all forms of music. If your age is anywhere below 25, I have to say I'm impressed that being so young you have realised this. And I think having a musically conscious relative and a good guitar teacher helped that a lot.....

I like this article a lot. I lived in NY for a while and moved down to Louisiana, needless to say, theres a lot of country and bluegrass played. I've actually have grown fond of both of those. I would enjoy being a guitarist that can play many genres than just play once real good.

Thanks for the positive reviews. To sambargun: I'm 17 and thanks for that. It makes me feel mature.

Good article but it raises the question of weather or not it is better to specialize in a specific genre or to be well rounded.

That's good advice. I might give this "practise something new" thing a try.

I love this idea and I have tried to do this somewhat, but I can't find any jazz I like. could you suggest some chill jazz songs? I would appreciate it a lot. =)

Jazz? I would recommend some Thelonious Monk and John Coltrane to begin with. And then there is Miles Davis and Wes Montgomery.

check out charlie christian for jazz. Father of the guitar solo.
I like to think that i keep an open mind about music. The only genre i really can't stand is that Sh*tcore bullsh*it that seems so popular today. Oh yeah and modern country. Its very important to keep an open mind. My own guitar playing is influenced by jazz, although i'm a metal guitarist. I also used to play trumpet in my high school band, so the symphonic-type peices we played influnced me too. Check out Vesuvius by Frank Tichelli. Completely epic beyond human comprehension. I've always wanted to arrange it for a metal band.
