Headphones are cramping your style. Whether ear fatigue, the cord getting in the way of your windmills, or just a fashion emergency, headphones can drive people crazy when recording

???? who cares how you look in the studio ????

anyway.... very nice info. very helpful. i'll probably use it in the future.

if headphones are getting in the way, maybe you might want to try in-ear-monitors(IEM) attached to receivers. ask your mixing engineer to get a transmittor and transmit the signal over the transmittor. use the corresponding receiver and plug an IEM in.

firstly, it looks MUCH better.
secondly, it SOUNDS much better.
thirdly, IEMs go behind ur back and into your ears so they dont interfere with the playing.
lastly, u can use normal headphones too, if u dont like the idea of IEMs but like the wireless idea.

Hope this helped!

Many are just good musicians who, like you (hopefully), care more about the song than their ego.

i think you'd be suprised

anyway gr8 article, you know your stuff, wish i was good enough to double track, or even record, or write a good song in the first place..... o well

Mr. PJ :
Thanks. I was just having difficulty with this problem. Two guitars with entirely different tones playing different lines through the same bass progressions (AND a piano part at times). And in spite of the tonal differences, any time the whole mix came together it was just a mess. Too much without any distinction. Thanks again. There's alot here that I'm going, right now, to try out with the hopes of getting those separate voices finally singing again.

Silky Smooth :
It never has the same vibe, the subtle differences add a lot to the mix.

I don't do much double tracking myself but when its done right it sounds great and full
