hellbound_jonny :
Good article. I think tone is fundamental to a guitarist's arsenal and the perfection of such seperates a good guitarist from a great one.

This article saved me a lot of time by giving a brief overview of each tone range; it is very useful for someone who hasn't spent much time toying with equalization. Thanks a lot!

Love the article! The wording is overly complex, though. If everyone, even people who aren't completely knowledgable about techie stuff, can read your stuff, they will appreciate it more.

well, you seem to think all leads should be really trebly, why? they sound so much better when they're smoother.

good article anyway though.

i was talking to a guitarist in a local band last night about this, and he told me to put it before all the pedals. i did, and it sounded horrid no matter how much tweaking i did. i have it after my distortion and befor my flanger, delay etc. he said if i always have that on, that i hate the tone of my amp, which is not true at all. i have a very very slight mid scoop on it, and it just sounds more professional and smooth. without it the distortion just sounds too muddy and the high notes don't stand out. is it just me, or does anyone else do this? good article too by the way.

Great article, really opened my eyes to the magic and subtleties of equalizers, I'm going to have to go and buy one now.

Could I get some sample positions? Everyone knows about boosted mids or scooped mids. I also know the radio tone, but that's about it. Any other EQ positions to get some different sounds?
