I think this sums up the solution to almost any problem when it comes to guitar... note each solution has "practice" in it.

turtlewax :
well you should maybe avoid anchoring when you start out, but if your already into the habit don't worry. If its good enough for most famous shredders it will work for everyone here

It's a pretty good article, there's alternative solutions that I could have given but that's because many of these solutions are impersonal and may not be favorable depending on the individual ultimately.

This was definitely a shredders article and considering that, as unfortunate as it is, lots of people on UG hate shredders you did well to put that disclaimer at the beginning - It's done you some favours seeing as you haven't got any hatemail so far!

The only thing I DIDN'T like was the way you kept on saying ''One'', it makes you sound like a wannabe aristocrat, sorry to say it dude! Otherwise, it's good.

Super Llama :
Saying "one" is not being like a wannabe aristocrat. try it in your english papers. You'll get a better grade i guarantee. For an essay, its apropriate (though for a shredder article thats questionable).

good stuff man i recently started looking at the way i play due to pain and this helps alot

demoniacfashion :
Using 'one' protects you from sexist accusations.
Well, I'm glad that I don't do mmost of these things that cause oyther people problems. The only difficulties I have are on the actual music side of it. I suggest learning Paganini's 5th Caprice even if you can't play it at the right tempo because it helps to teach fingerings that you might otherwise not be tempted to explore

your right hand tips are probably the most helpful. i don't really have any of these habits, but its a good refresher

Yea, but if you notice, a lot of people anchor when tremolo picking. I don't do it personally, but I've seen people anchor their pinky or ring finger on the bridge or pickgaurd

Howitus :
John Petrucci does anchoring too (and he's pretty fast when it comes to soloing)!

GrunhoTs :
great job, but i have to agree with Howitus
