Kurt Donald Cobain was born on February 20th, 1967 to Donald and Wendy Cobain. Kurt was born in the small city of Hoquiam, Washington. A little while later, the Cobains moved to Aberdeen, Washington, a small, redneck, depressing logging town. Kurt used to love to listen to his aunt Mary's Beatles records (they were his favorite band). He had a good childhood until he was about 8 years old. His doctor prescribed him Ritelin, because the doctor though he was hyperactive. This medacine kept him up all night. At this time, feud was starting between Donald and Wendy. They would be arguing and yelling at each other all night while Kurt sat in his room listening to them. He started to hate his parents. He wrote a poem on his that said the following:
"I hate Mom. I hate Dad. Dad hates Mom. Mom hates Dad. It simply wants to make you be so sad."
His parents eventually divorced and both remarried. Wendy married a man named Pat 'O Connor (who she also later divorced because he was abusive). Kurt did not want his father to remarry and his father promised him so, but did it anyways (what a horrible father...).
He lived in different places, such as his grandparents place, his mothers, or his fathers. One time, he was at his mother's house and she was having a party. She was drunk and Kurt couldn't tolerate her. She yelled at him and told him to get out. Kurt was now homeless and lived under a bridge (Something In The Way). Later, he moved in with his good friend, Jesse Reed for a while. He would sleep on their couch and jam with Jesse. At this time, he met Krist at Aberdeen High. They would jam together with Krist on gutar and Kurt on drums.
Kurt later then formed a band with Krist and Aaron Burckhard (from the Melvins). They went under numerous names, such as Brown Cow (a mistake, the real name is mostly unknown) Fecal Matter, and The Sellouts. Their first gig was on Saturday, March 7th, 1987 in Raymond, Washington at 17 Nussbaum Road. Their second gig was on a radio show called "Boy Meets Girl" on Friday, April 17th 1987 in Olympia, Washington. These two shows are availible on a bootleg CD called First Live Show.
In summer 1989, after going under numerous names, Kurt came up with the final name for the band. Nirvana. He would watch a program on TV about budddhism and was fascinated by it and Nirvana. At this time, Nirvana had a record deal with Sub Pop. They got their first real durmmer, Chad Channing, after numerous drummers. After they finished recording everything at Sub Pop, they owed the company $600. They were unable to pay off this debt. This is where Jason Everman comes in. He says he will pay the $600 if he gets credit as a guitarist on Bleach (even though he didn't record anything with them). If you have a copy of Bleach, take a look at the liner notes and you will see Jason's name. At this time, Kurt has his first real serious relationship with a girl named Tracy Marander (whom About A Girl is about).
Nirvana started to go on tour with there new second guitarist, Jason Everman, who Kurt did not particularly like. After the touring, Kurt finally fired Jason. Since Kurt was always on tours, he and Tracy decided they should break up.
In 1990, Nirvana started to record their new album. This year, Kurt had to fire Chad Channing, because he was not a good enough drummer. Kurt put an ad in the newspaper, that a band needed a drummer. A guy named Dave Grohl tried out and got the part as the famous Nirvana drummer. Nirvana recorded a couple songs at Sub Pop, such as Imodium, In Bloom, and Pay To Play. Nirvana didn't like Sub Pop and decided to find a new record company. They eventually chode Geffen Records, and signed up with the sector of the company called DGC (David Geffen Company) which they joked and called Dumping Ground Company because it was a piece of crap. They rerecorded some of their songs and changed the lyrics. They also recorded my favorite Nirvana song, Aneurysm, and the song that did it all, Smells Like Teen Spirit. Kurt got the name from his new girl friend, Tobi Vail, of the band Bikini Kill, and a part of the Grrrl Riot movement, because her friend spray painted on the wall, "Kurt Smells Like Teen Spirit" because Tobi used Teen Spirit deoderant. Kurt did not realize that Teen Spirit was a deoderant and apologized.
On September 24th, 1991, Nevermind was released. In 1992, Smells Like Teen Spirit hit number 1 and Nevermind topped the charts, and topped Michael Jackson.
That is the story of Kurt before he was famous. I will accept constructive criticism. Note though that I left out some details because I didn't want to make this too long.

That's not how kurt got kicked out. He got kicked out when his mum caught him having sex...or was beginning to have sex...then he got kicked out. Kurt also MAY never have actually lived under a bridge, claims krist novelselich. You left out alot of other significant things. : . Kurt was now homeless and lived under a bridge (Something In The Way).
Kurt claimjed in interviews he never actually "lived" under a bridge. The bridge made famou by "something in the way" was a place were kurt and his friends would hang out, smoke pot, but it is highly spectulated, by even kurt imself, that he lived under this brige. The ledgenday Young street bridge in Aberdeen is the bridge kurt wrote about in "somethign in the Way", but many of Kurt's friends doubt thathe live under this bridge. Kurt was, however, kicked out of his house and would spend the night on many couches.

: Who wrote this load of crap? I'll give you most all of the "facts" that you dug up---but those "facts" are everywhere and it doesn't take a rocket scientist to put them all together---however, it does take some RESEARCH to make sure that everything is factual, which you obviously didn't do. The huge factual error that you made is regarding the "firing" of Chad Channing, which you totally F***ed up....Chad was not "fired" by Kurt Cobain because he wasn't a "good enough drummer", Chad left Nirvana in mutual agreement with Kurt---Kurt wanted a more "studio" oriented drummer (ie; someone who did what he was instructed by Kurt--which Chad would never do, Chad is just as much devoted to the craft of his music as Kurt was)...Chad has a much more improvisational style of drumming than Dave Grohl does---and if you listen to "Bleach", you can hardly argue that he is "not a good drummer".....before you go spouting off "facts", get your facts together--and if it is too much trouble to research for an "article" that you are writing, please do all of us a favor and don't write it. People who were there and know the facts find what you write highly offensive.POSTED: 11/10/2004 - 10:46 pm / quote |
