He plays it. :)

ok, in that case it is very coool. Does he play on the song as well? Sorry, i'm pretty stupid about this.

ok cool, sounds remarkably like becker.
public property
02-08-2006, 08:17 PM
I don't agree with that at all, the actually notes are obviously becker style, but I noticed straight away that is dosen't sound anything like him, two reasons, 1.The clean tone dosen't sound as wet and rainy - like beckers and 2. the sweeps are far too clean and his tone is too crisp.
PooKoo
02-08-2006, 08:21 PM
yeah, i noticed about the clean tone, but the vibrato, the whammyish stuff or whatever, sounds a lot like beckers style too me. I noticed it was exceptionally clean usually too. But i didnt really pay much mind to it.

I know I seem like a crazed Becker fan (which I am :p: ) but I have many clips in which his sweeps are very clean. But yah, the tone is what somewhat gives it away, although if I had been told it was played by Becker, I would probably not doubt it.
Anyways, PooKoo, did you like the Raspberry Jams? I'm uploading TLGOJB 2 right now.

they were great, though more for being interesting then being really good. I love his version of when you wish upon a star though
Reminds of what i try to do, just write and jam with a guitar, only much better.
Does anyone know where i can find a POwer tab or GP tab of Vai's Feathers? I cant find one anywhere and i can play a lot of it by ear, but id love to have the score. This should probably be in tab talk but what the hell...

I don't have that tab, but is Feathers the song that Vai put on the JB tribute album?
I dont know, its the first song off disc 2 of the Infinite Vai anthology and i think its amazing---if my crappy uni server lets me send it ill try and use yousendit if you wanna hear it.

That melody is really good! Well done dude. However(I'm sure you know) some note choices in the lead sound really out of place and don't suit the flow of the piece....

Apoc, upload some more of your stuff. :)

02-10-2006, 05:21 PM
Well, to be perfectly honest...
That backing sounded bog off the mill standard arpeggio's at a fast rate, alternate that backing man, it gets real boring, real fast. If you do arpeggios, you can do them with extensions on alternate positions on the neck etc too... But seriously man, open positions all the time? :(
It didn't really latch on to the next bit either, it felt like random parts smudgeoned together, also chords not in the same key, and really out of key notes like paddyo mentioned.
This reminds me of when I was new at composing in guitar pro ;)
I don't know how long you've been at it, and who cares really, but...
Keep practicing ;)
Sorry if I somewhat burst your bubble :(
PooKoo
02-10-2006, 05:29 PM
got yer backkk man
and i like the arpeggio part, and a lot of the melody, but i think it changes around in keys way too much for my liking, if anything maybe flow it together more, but its coming along good.

And Resi, you said something about open positions?? Explain, I'm pretty new to the songwriting scene. Anything to help a songwriting noob will be accepted.

Resiliance
02-10-2006, 06:14 PM
Well, what I mean by the open position remark is pretty simple, open chord arpeggios.
You can give it a different sound with extensions on the neck or just arpeggios, but not always open string. Just... Please.
Make it a habit to vary your backings just with as much care as you'd handle your lead.
Lesson #1 in songwriting: the backing is more important than whatever's on top.

not bad resi, pwnzzz my ass sideways really, but if ya dont mind me saying so, it does sound a little cliche, a bit like every other neoclassicalish peice, especially the chorus part that kicks in early, but then again i only downloaded one so far, as im about to go to some thrift stores and such.
btw, ill post some stuff ive been messing around with if youd like, but i am horrible with gp, i actually wrote it originally on guitar and piano, and yesss, the backing is not varied at all, on piano i would arpeggiate and do fills to make it interesting, and i frankly havent the patience for that on guitar pro.

Lesson #1 in songwriting: the backing is more important than whatever's on top. Thanks, Resi. I think I get it. I copied and pasted the backing :p: ...And always do... I could try to change it.
You mean kind of like the way Steve Harris does in Maiden. Like the intro to The Trooper, where the guitar doesn't change, but the bass does, and sounds different.
Thank you!
Edit: Damn I suck at it. It sounded way better before I screwed with it. I'll keep it in mind for future reference though. Maybe I'll look into some more theory, any suggestions for good lessons/videos?

Give me 6 months, i might do some chops playing. Till then, theres two short new things up on my dmusic.
"Odd fun little thing" - completely not serious but nice piece, played with worse tone than usual and twice as fast as i wrote it.
"Stuff from my loop station" - i've always thought i was more interesting and a better player when i wasnt around computers, and now i have a loop station to prove it.

Me = flamed for this one
Guitarist: Kurdt Cobain
Bands: The Sellouts, Nirvana, and other names for basically the same people in Nirvana
Why?: Although most would say that because he doesn't play much fast solos that he is a bad player but, I dissagree. He does shred a little in a few songs but that is not where he shines. It is in the catchyness of the melodies. Every guitarist knows the main melody for Come as you are. It is so simple but, it is a great part.
influenced: Hm, not really sure. He inspired me.
Influences: The Pixies, The Vasalines, The Meatpuppets
Songs: Love Buzz, School, Smells Like Teen Spirit, Come as you are, Dumb, You know You're right

Also my nose was the real reason steve vai lost in crossroads. My nose played the guitar at the end of bill and teds excellent adventure... while drunk.
My nose composed a symphony that could bring any maestro to his knees, and destroyed it out of spite.
My nose sunk the titanic.
My nose is the reason for the hole in the ozone.
My nose gets laid more then i do.
When becker first heard my nose play, his legs collapsed from under him, he has yet to get up. (ok that was in bad taste)
My nose can play paganinis 5th, 24th, AND 3rd, at twice the normal speeds.
Michael angelo can play a quad guitar, but my nose can play a 5 neck, and not cheap trick style.... all at once.
My nose can play Every instrument except the kazoo.

Its a well known fact that paggy didnt actually play the caprices. What happened was, pookoo's nose was playing so fast and clean that he went back in time, wrote the caprices, gave them to paganini, and then played them behind a curtain while paganini mimed.

PooKoo do u know what PM stands for? PERSONAL MESSAGE , you have just reinforced what ive said , you are a God damn little kiddie, grow the hell up. Please!
Hmm....well, let's evaluate:
You title the PRIVATE message "kirk>ur face"(this just screams"I'm a child")
You even bother to make it a message and send it in the first place.
and the kicker-You try to compare one solo to entire pieces, especially one like Arpeggios From Hell which is far more advanced and complicated than the alleged "Creeping Death" solo
Now, if there was ever a list of hippocrites, you gotta be one near the top pal.
So , to making yourself look alike a fool in public.

my plan was not to fool my self in public , as it was a PM :( , but creeping death solo is much harder than arpeggios from hell , altho this is one of Yngwie's easier peices.

Ah, well, sometimes things don't work out the way you want them to. That's life.
And as far as the "Creeping Death solo is harder than Arpeggios From Hell" thing goes - no comment.

So you can play AFH perfectly huh?
:haha lmao Few if ANY people on this forum can play Arpeggios From Hell perfectly, and if they could, Creeping Death would be a cake walk. I like Metallica and have nothing against Kirk, but that's just focking silly.
You may not be able to play Creeping Death, but if you can't, you can't play Arpeggios From Hell. Sorry, that's just how it is. :)
Edit: w00t! I made corny techno!
