Wow that guy totally owns my face in pool....
Like wow.
Crazy, he does make everyshot seem so simple, he has the force that he hits the que ball with just perfect for each shot.
Amazing.
I wish I was good a pool, but I only get to play it once a week. (which is at my church, and that table is so bad...ugh...yeaa...)

And eh, the force isn't really what's so impressive about his playing... Look at how he uses side and back/topspin.

Mmhmmm,Ronnie is just one of those guys you cant help but watch, entranced in his brilliance. Definitely one of the best sports people in the world.
EDIT: Fun fact time! He also is big into fitness and runs at least 5 miles a day!
i believe his dad is in prison for murder and his mum is/was arrested for tax fraud--theres all sort of East-end type/gangster connections with him apparently.
Technique-wise, i think he's untouchable, its his temprament that stops him completely dominating the game, and why he hasnt quite lived up to what hes more than capable of--then again, if on a good day you can do that---the googlevideo 147---then anything less than that standard is sure to frustrate you.
when hes on top form, he controls the white ball perfectly, like Resiliance said, his use of side and spin is top-notch, he forces angles and manipulates his shots to make his game unbelievable fluid.

oh...looked like pool to me 0_o
At least somewhat similair concept ^_^. What makes it different?
Resiliance
05-29-2006, 04:58 PM
What makes it different?
First of all, you have to pot a red ball, then a coloured ball. When there are no more reds left, you must pot them in order yellow-green-brown-blue-pink-black. Each of these have points: Yellow - 2, Green - 3, Brown - 4, Blue - 5, Pink - 6, Black - 7. Each red counts for 1. (I'm not getting into the free ball rule etc, where a colour can be taken as a red ball for 1 point... Look that up if you so please)
Points are what win a snooker frame. There are points given to the adversary for certain fouls, in certain situations a player can have the balls replaced in their position and let the adversary have another go, but for all the rules, you better google snooker rules or something, because I can't be arsed to sum everything up.
Second of all, snooker tables are about 450943509450495 times the size of a pool table, the cloths are much more responsive, the balls are smaller, and the pockets are MUCH smaller, and the jaws are MUCH sharper. In conclusion, it's MUCH harder to even pot a ball in snooker. Let alone pot one with backhand side to the left because you want it to rebound off the cushion to the exact spot you have in mind to have a good position for the next 3 balls. Playing with side isn't exactly easy. Snooker's a game of thinking ahead.
In snooker, the emphasis is on the white ball, not so much the pots being made. By controlling the white ball you can make a frame-winning break, if you're good. ( See Ronnie :p: ).
Another thing that's probably unknown to you is the tactical aspect, for example safety shots, which is where you try and put the white ball as close as possible to the cushion in the baulk area, assuming all reds are in the lower half of the table. Basically, making sure your opponent can't do jack ****. Ofcourse, when you've got players who are about evenly skilled, this kind of play can take a while for a frame to finish... Over an hour and a half isn't unheard of in professional tournaments. And don't we love it when that happens :)
This is also where the name "snooker" comes into play. When for example Player 1 needs to hit a red ball, but his path is blocked and he can only get to it past the cushion, with a swerve, or not at all, he is in fact "snookered". Same thing when he has to hit the yellow on a clearance, but can't reach it, etc... You get the picture.
Overall, snooker involves much more skill, dedication, tactical smarts, and precision than pool.
And if I hear anyone even comparing the two, I'll spray aids-infected blood on them.

while im certainly not a christian--look at my sig!--i do find it rather silly when atheists see fit to criticise religion, you know the scrutiny and questions like;
'' come on, if god is real then why is there cancer?''At the end of the day, often the atheists biggest criticism of religion is the old, '' dont try and force your views on me'', yet this is also seems to be their favourite 'weapon' as well, ie, ''come on, you dontreally believe all that rubbish do you?''
I love a good old theological debate as much as anyone, but it has to be an informed and intelligent discussion.

I bought a used Morely wah/volume pedal for $45.00 over the weekend and I'm not terribly impressed with it. It doesnt handle gain well, and the sweep isnt deep enough. I really wanted a Satch-type wah tone and this doesnt do it. It sounds bad when trying to play Is There Love In Space? (and dont say its my playing... cuz that song is cake :P )
But for $45.. I cant complain. It's got a decent clean/funk sound.

Apparently Michael Pinella (keyboardist from Symphony X) works at the Guitar Center 10 minutes from my house. Someone had told me this a while ago, but I didnt believe him. I went there yesterday to get strings and I saw him myself. He's a really nice guy too. I only got to talk with him for a minute, and he said a new album is in the works. He's also (slowly) working on another solo project, but it wont be out for a while. Symphony will be doing a long European tour soon he also said.
Isnt it sad that a musician like him is working at GC?! I dunno if it's to pay the bills, or just cuz he likes doing it. But I cant help but feel bad for the guy.

Wow, thats pretty crazy.

sorry if this is hijacking but I have been wondering about how to get a better tone all day today. I currently have a 75 watt spider and I know it doesn't give me the best tone possible. I was just wondering, what kind of amp and what kind of pedals should I get to get a decent shreddy tone (preferably something which can do everything from EVH to Cooley) I tried a Marshall AVT100 and I didn't think that was too bad except for the fact that it only has one distortion channel (need to for playing Maiden and things like it at gigs.) I wanted to try a dsl with some kind of overdrive pedal on the overdrive channel, because I've been told that that works nicely. I basically want to step up to a valve amp and I'm not too sure which one, or which pedals I'll need to get a good tone, preferably give me all the help possible. After I get my amp sorted a few more gigs then I can get an RG8270 :D

You're main problem is the Spider. I hate those damn things. (not like my amp is any better though :( ) Any way, I'm personally looking at a Hellcat or Harlequin thanks to Resi, but that is not for a LONG time. (upwards of 5 years) If you have a lot of cash to dish out, those are amazing amps. But I'd also say that a Krankenstein is an amazing amp, just smooth as all get out. But as pedals go, I use a Line 6 Uber Metal, which with enough tweaking really gives me a great sound.

Hear it.
The intro riff is ridiculously awesome.
Oh and btw: I got Hitman: Blood Money yesterday. Jesus that game is awesome. I snuck into someone's dressing room with a nailgun, popped him, then sninped someone (the someone was waiting to see guy I just killed with a nailgun perform an opera) from a rafter, and never got seen.
Of course, that isn't half as cool as injecting someone with potassium chloride and sodium pentathol while they're playing the cello. :o
I just played Indigo Prophecty for about...hmm 8hours. My memory card is at my friends house so I just thought I'd pick it up next time I was over there and leave the PS2 on.
I was talking to my brother and was like "Man it would suck if the power just went out."
5minutes later the power flickered on and off...oh the irony =(. 8hours of work lost in 2seconds....*sigh*...yea....damnit.
Kick ass game though...from what I got to play of it (which was a ****load...just lost it all...now I'm going somewhat insane about it...rawerarsrewasdrwatawtsadf)

Im looking for a new amp (like Matt_Malmsteen) and I play mostly shred, 80's metal, classic rock, hair metal ect.
Im going to sell my Fender FM65R & my Ibanez RG350DX and put that money towards an amp, and I am going to get a job aswell. So I'm looking for a tube/valve amp for around $1500 AUD and below, but I may go up to about $2000. So far I think I'm going to go for the Laney GH50L. But I have also been looking into Carvin, Marshall, Peavey ect. And also I would prefer a 50W.
Any suggestions?
Also, my guitar teacher said he saw a 2nd hand Laney GH100L for $600 AUD in a shop that he goes to. So I'm going to check if its still there.
And is Ebay the best way to sell my current amp and my RG350DX?
Thanks and keep on rockin' in the free world

I did, i thought it was fairly neat, but nowhere near complete. Nice though. :)
No **** dude. Maybe you should sometimes visit the world outside Shred Forum. :p:
Tbh, i had no idea for quite a while too, the metal forum irritates me. The metalness matters more than the intent to change humanity through bonecrushing music.

I was looking at Hughes And Kettners, Laneys and Cornfords, although considering I'm an unemployed student I don't think I'll be getting one for a while yet.
Go for a 50 watter. 100W is overkill unless you're playing stadiums (technically that should be stadia). Heck 50W is overkill really.
Laneys are great, excellent amp for an excellent price and Cornfords are like sex for the ears, but they're soooo expensive. The price for a Hellcat halfstack would be about ?3600 over here, and thats with free trade between Ireland and the UK, whereas a GH50L halfstack would be about 1 grand.

I tried a second hand one that was in a shop in Dublin. The dude there told me some idiot had traded it in for a PRS. It was already sold but the guy liked my playing and almost ordered me to play through it.

Noooo I'm saving a for a Cornford Hellcat halfstack. I was pretty damn set on the Laney until I tried the Cornford, then I knew I had to buy one. So it ended by me making a ?3600 commitment, getting a job once again this summer and having to spend the next three months that come once I'm finished my exams (which start tomorrow Aaaaaagh!) working full time, so that I can get the Cornford. Also, since Cornford tubes are pricey, I realised that buying a second amp for practicing and gigs in less desirable locations, probably a Laney VC212. By the way, nobody make any mean comments, I'm gonna be working my ass off for this.

Well I'm playing an RG350DX atm which I'm gonna get fitted with evos soon, I'm mainly asking because I'm using a crappy fender 15watt atm and I need something with some beef and plus I'm gonna start looking for a band so I need something big.
I just read a review on the Hughes and Kettner Switchblade which interested me, but I've heard that Cornfords and Laneys are kickass, although a Hellcat is gonna cost me alot where as a good sized Laney is a nicer price. Thanx for the recommendations
What are carvin amps like for playing metal and shred like I said?
I've just had a look and they aren't stupidly expensive.

^In a Carvin magazine I have, there's a Steve Vai Legacy full stack (200 or 400 watts I think) for only $1700. Sure, it's overkill, but damn, 200 watts+ for only 1700??
Seems pretty reasonable if you want a Vai-esque tone.
Uhm... that happened a while ago.

Hey, I frequent the metal forum occasionally. I'll visit it like crazy for about a week, then not go there at all for several weeks.
I visit the Pit every now and then to have a good laugh.

That green day thread would have been truly hilarious if they left it open for a while!
my friend and guitar buddy went to school with ( Dave? founder of laney amps) Laney's son---he used to wonder where this kid got all his awesome amps and gear from and he said it took about three years for the penny to drop--i think its mad that i live like, 5 miles from Robert Plant and Mr. Laney, they both live pretty anonymous lives in the countryside.

I have one, but its exceptionally terrible. Ya see, I was supposed to have three hours to record, but my Dad ****ed up with the times and I was left with only one. That wouldn't have been so bad but the acoustic I was using died as soon as I plugged it in, the amp was **** (flextone II, my ears still haven't recovered) and I know it sounds like an excuse, but I just can't play right when it sounds like I'm hitting a cat with a baby either way. Infact, the ****ers wouldn't even give me a damn click track, because we apparantly didn't have time (wtf?). So I got some slightly out of time, slightly sloppy guitar lines with terrible tone, most of which HAD to be done in one take, and I didn't have any time to put drum beats or bass to it. If you want it, I'll send it to you, but keep in mind, that it was my first time, I didn't mix it, the tone wasn't my fault and the calibre of playing isn't anywhere near my normal standard.
On a plus note, we did get a camcorder recently, and I may make and upload some vids after the exams, me and my jazz buff friend are looking to make a couple of vids of us jamming.

It's well in my price range I figure, it's around the same price as a Laney TT50combo..so which would I be bettr getting eventually, Laney TT50 combo or Engl screamer?
