Alright. :p: Well in the Pit, some interesting posts I read: :haha

Got kicked out of the local music store for playing a popular blink 182 song on a banjo for over 15 minutes but snuck back into the basement only to befriend the only decent person I've ever met who worked at a music store; although he had poor taste in movies.

Kicked out of a Kohls because they didn't realize how amazing the perfectly smooth, waxed floors were for rollerblading.

Kicked out of an entire mall for complimenting several women on thier choice of dress.

Kicked out of toy stores (how cliche) for various activities, including put not limited to: searching the stores for Sith and falsely accusing some of practicing the dark art and attempting to apprehend them in the name of the Republic (go figure), testing out the minibikes as part of my quality control program to benefit everyone, kicked out of another for stockpiling all the play food and distributing to everyone equal, and kicked out of another for taking over certain aisles in the name of global communism.

I once got kicked out of a sears for masturbating to there half naked plastic models (manicans?), but I mean come on boobies are boobies and boys will be boys

the sad thing is..its a true story :(

Whereabouts in Australia?

Probably fly in to Melbourne, then go see my grandparents in Leeton (NSW) (by way of flight to Wagga/Narrandera) then Sydney, then train to Adelaide to see my other grandparents. Then flight to Brisbane and possibly go to Gold Coast and maybe up to Cairns, will fly back from Brisbane..... Thats my provisional plan anyways. May end up cutting out Adelaide and just going straight from Sydney to Brisbane (Sydney's more interesting anyways). Then a week in Langkawi Malaysia to round it all off.... Looking at bout £1800 in total I think, but thats conservative.... Should be good.

He looks like he's just got out of bed, heard you on his yard, grabbed what he thinks is his shotgun and is now threatening you.

There are alot of Vai's songs that you could probably pull off without a whammy. Maybe Liberty or Ballerina 12/24? If you learn a song that has some whammy in it, change it a bit.

Edit: To Bog, there is this one page on the net that has a bunch of shawn lane PTs, and it might have Not Again. I just remeber that it had Epilogue for Lisa, which I had been looking for, since it wasn't on standard tab websites (such as here). Maybe someone knowns the URL, or I'll look for it later.

I don't really know where else to go with this as there is no shred recommendation thread, and the acoustic threads may not have any idea: what are some good acoustic-shred artists/albums to pick up/listen to?

Rather than hand you your answer on a platter, I'd rather you made the extra effort and sorted through the thread that was made for that purpose of presenting suggestions. And the simple fact that you claimed you couldn't find a thread for it, despite it being stickied in the top, says wonders about your ability to actually look for things.

And for the record, you haven't been here nearly long enough to know what this thread is for. Go back and read the last 300+ pages before spouting your gibberish about what belongs here.

Point taken, and again I was proven wrong as Resi helped me out in the "must haves" thread with some great suggestions. But all in all, I'm not huge on spending hours upon hours on a website so if I have a question I look for quick answers. Yah, my bad for not looking closely for the thread or being a little naive thinking the word "recommendations" would be in there, but at the end of all this I guess "random" has a whole new meeting. so anyway I was listening to this really tripped out song by the Beach Boys (believe it) called "Feel Flows", its got this solo flute section which is characterized by a very eastern sounding harmony and melody... it'd be a great lil' piece to rip off on guitar and play it, especially if you can come anywhere close to capturing the vibe (barring the fact, that it IS played on a flute) - it's be real slick.

and, I recommend to all who haven't heard the song, listen to Eddie Hazel's soloing on "Maggot Brain"

Woah dude, listen man, I apply the same high standards to everyone, if you don't pick out the negative aspects you don't know the negative aspects thus you can't improve on them. #1 attitude to have and understand.

Technique had **** all to do with it. Honestly, where the HELL did you get that? I didn't like it because it's 13 in a dozen and there are many players who can do better in my opinion, and me always striving for perfection means I will criticise EVERY LITTLE IMPERFECTION I see. If this includes technique, so be it.

I think flamencogod was right. You want us all to say OMFG wow he's great. You really need to understand that everyone in this forum WILL STRIVE FOR PERFECTION, thus criticise ANYTHING that's not PERFECT.

I know you're probably not used to this because in most other band forums they worship people who can bash out an A chord, but here we want to get better and EVERYTHING is under scrutiny. Including ourselves.

Do you not think I'm my own harshest critic? If I'd criticise 500000 different things, does that mean I don't like said person? OFCOURSE IT DOESN'T! Get that into your skull!

In the thread you say I thought it sounded nice (which I did) and then proceeded to say I said it sounded terrible because of some very minor technique issues... Where did I say the word terrible?

And did you ever stop to think that technique and sound are directly related, when you were preaching your little emotion thingy?

I suggest you get a thicker skin and just learn to interpret everything a bit more calmly and as they were ment instead of taking them so personally/serious.

What, you don't want people to criticise someone? I really don't get why you have your panties in a bunch to be honest.

Feel free to reply to this post, I will try to clear any other misconceptions you have, as I guarantee you, your view of this forum is absolutely, completely, and utterly wrong.

Hmm...I'd like all of your opinions on this. I'm not trying to sound...angry, but I am a bit perturbed as to why, this last Tuesday, I lost in a talent competition to a karaoke singer. It was about 115 degrees farenheight outside, I was wearing two shirts, and we were under a pavilion. Not the best playing conditions. But I did manage to get my improv done. I played over a I-II-III-II type of chord pattern in the key of A. Very easy to solo over, giving me a chance to just bust out some fast speed picking now and then, while still keeping myself in perception of some quirky melodic ideas. I used my limited ability of passing tones, blue notes, etc., w/e, and I just generally tried to keep the solo melodically in tune and keep showmanship interesting. (Fast runs, playing over the top of the fretboard, funny faces, etc.) Yet still, I lost to a girl singing along to a half-rate country track. I'm not saying my performance was good, as I am no where near as good as I wish to be and up to standards I have set for myself to achieve, but I WAS better than this girl. Especially due to the fact that she did karaoke while I improvised a rock/jazz solo. Now, I don't want to come across as conceited, even though I may have already, but when I say I was better, I was. If the judges had an inkling of musicianship standards in their brains they would have known. Now, I had many people afterwards tell me I was the best act and that the judges may have been a bit unfamiliar with the genre, but it still seems just stupid to me that I lost. (although, It wasn't a good idea that half way through the improv I shoved my highs through the roof to cut through my loop, causing half the room to cover their ears) I did get second place in the competition, but I still don't believe that it makes sense to award a karaoke singer a most talented award. I did also hear though that the winner had to sing the national anthem, but I still don't see why I couldn't have just PLAYED it. Both voice and guitar are instruments, are they not? That is just another possible reason I may have lost, but I assure you it wasn't due to lack of talent. So just, what I wanted an opinion on, is it fair to judge someones talent on accessibility?

So just, what I wanted an opinion on, is it fair to judge someones talent on accessibility?

i symphasize with you.

The normal sized ones are the small ones, but you have ones double the size of those too.

Dude, honestly, it's a talent competition. What do you expect from people who think they can see one person having more "talent" than another? The very meaning of "talent competition" is BS in itself. I don't see why you even bothered, to be honest.

Money :p:

Meh, life usually doesn't turn the way it should...

Besides, often times in any competition, the "best" usually doesn't win anyway. Mob rules in that kinda situation & the guitar doesn't seem as accessible as vocals to the general audience, therefore, no it isn't fair to judge something based on that imo

After all, if it weren't for that, we'd have reality TV shows like "American Guitar Hero" & such (not likely but u get what I'm tryin' to say)

Just don't fret over it, if people come up to u after a show & tell u that u were great, that's good enough for me. Surely not everyone can enjoy a guitar performance, but there will always be a few who do; and imo, that makes it all worth while-even if u don't win...

Are they a custom shape or thickness or something?
I've never seen any (I don't think)...

I use that term really loosely as a reference. I mean, its not gay camp guide telling us of how fun building sandcastles really is. Its more like life out in the countryside with people your own age with all the catering of your mother but none of the restricitions.

In irish.

Just to let anyone who cares know...

Greg Howe has dropped Suhr due to "Irreconciliable differences" and is no longer making a sig guitar with them.

He is now talking to Peavey about making a guitar.

Got the information over at the howe forums.

I'm getting a Laney GH50L pretty soon, but I'm not sure which quadbox to go with... I was thinking of just getting a cheap one for now, then when I have the money get a better one (Marshall 1960A). Anyone know of any decent cheap quads? Should I go for 2nd hand? Thanks. (http://www.worth1000.com/cache/gallery/contestcache.asp?contest_id=1276&display=photoshop)
