I've always found his other stuff better than PaW personally. I like Fire Garden, Alive in an..., and the 7th song much better. It still is good thought. Sisters is awesome, in my humble oppinion, as is Liberty.

God damn... I got a root canal today, and got my class schedules and have no classes with my close friends, and I woke up with a bad headache at 6:30... I'm in a freaking bad mood..... grrr

Yeah,I suppose. Doesnt apply to me,especially recently. I'm getting back to listening to pop and Dance again. Some of it is a lot more decent than the elitists say. I love a lot of everything now again whereas this time last year I was one of those "every type of pop music ever was/is/always will be ****,I refuse to listen to anything!". Dumb opinion to have by anyones standards...

Yeah if I'm not listening to something Shreddy(Just gonna include Jazz, and Fusion into this.) so anyway I'm sure this has already been discussed before, but I just listened to the new Maiden single "The Reincarnation of Benjamin Breeg", and err I do have a fairly mixed opinion of it to begin with. I mean considering this is the first single from the album, and clocking in at over 7 minutes I guess I was expecting something a lil' more epic and grand (whatever that is)... I mean two things which I thought were kinda not upto my expectations were the lyrics and the guitar solos - not that they are anywhere close to being lame or unimpressive! just that given the whole backstory about Benjamin Breeg, I had expected perhaps some cryptic references to it, but rather it was a very generic template displaying the ravings of a damned lost soul, which is fairly typical in the Maiden book... and the guitar soloing, umm yea it was kinda generic too without much direction... and after some of the blitzkrieg guitar work in DoD I was eager to see some flashy playing which was unfortunately missing...

all this said, I definitely still like the song, and it seems like one of those Maiden songs which grow on you over time. The production is once again simply peerless, and I certainly dig the way the song has been arranged with the rhythmic motifs and proggish drum fills, very ****ing tight! If I remember correctly though, "Wildest Dreams" released as the first single from DoD was similarly one of the weaker songs, in what I thought was one of the best Maiden albums otherwise... so maybe this is a ploy which the band is using...

do not take offence to my slightly critical approach to the new album - I've been a Maiden fan for the last 8 years, and though I have moved out of conventional metal and such, I still like my daily shot of Maiden! I can't wait to get hold of the album in its entirety 'cos I know it will ultimately pwn!

I had the chord progression and I just went with that. Usually on hard parts I'll just a program just to slow it down and confirm what I tabbed by ear is correct. For this piece, I slowed it down a few time to make sure I was getting the right notes. I have the rest of the tab (minus the improv solos) if you want them.

So anyway tapping with your finger vs tapping with your pick....

Both are can be used diffrently. To get some incredible fast like tapping as in only one spot then moving only a little bit I would use a pick. But overall finger > pick. I much prefer the better legato sound you get from a finger then a pick.

When I started tapping.(Only on one string) I would only use a pick, because I wouldn't be able to get a loud enough ring out of it. That's when I use to be horrible at hammer-ons. Now finger is much better. Plus you got 8 fingers. And while using a pickyou're limited to only 7(That's if you only use your thumb and index), also with much impairity because of the bulkyness of the pick.

I will occasionally use my pick, but only for single string - close fret taps. Otherwise I'll use my finger as well. Although, using the pick seems to get a much louder sound(at least for me it does).

it depends. if i'm doing like a joe satriani type 2 fret tapping thing, or in surfing with the alien, the beginning of the first solo, then i use a pick. but otherwise, i go with my fingers.

I just use my index finger, but I think it just might be what you prefer. Cause I can easily hold my pick in my thumb against my index finger while I tap with it. Or I just quickly put it in my mouth. I know other people who use their other fingers to do it, but I don't really like to do that.

EDIT: I just noticed that Thal rests his hand on the fret board(To anchor his hand and mute strings probably) while using mostly his index finger to tap. :eek:

Meh, i've been doing it that way for so long it's nothing to me. Plus i have more calloused skin on the index, so i dont even feel the tapping most of the time. I learned this way, i know it's weird but using the middle finger just feels so foreign to me. It also gives me more control of where im tapping, since i can usually brace my right hand with the rest of the fingers and my thumb.

shredding still makes some sort of sense eventhough the notes are flying by if you break it down there are arps involved and of course scales and other things. Usually wanking is completely random trying to play as fast as you can not really thinking about what to do next.
