shredding still makes some sort of sense eventhough the notes are flying by if you break it down there are arps involved and of course scales and other things. Usually wanking is completely random trying to play as fast as you can not really thinking about what to do next.
Not at all, do not listen to this thing. Look at the thread a few threads down, or the link above.

I think Hepz asked about progress in the movie. This isn't exactly progress, but it certainly rocks.
Shirts, Guitars, High School and Religion
Hey My Friends,
So the shirts are available. I guess just click on the shirt thing Rich made. The photo was taken by Ross Pelton. I was on my knees because I would shake if I stood for too long. My father made the logo for my Blackberry Jams CD. Thank you so much Thom, Triple Crown Clothing and Dave. My homies. I guess if they sell well, they will make another kind.
Matt Schulze, I miss you buddy. He had to stop his myspace because he was getting too many weird comments. Fender/Jackson actually made me a JB number-type guitar for the movie and probably to sell, thanks to Matt. I will keep you posted.
I am, hopefully, going to talk to one of the musicians I want for one of my new songs on Monday. I will let you know how it goes.
Hey don't get on Phil for his questions. I don't mind personal questions at all. I chose to answer them, I didn't have to. How will we learn if we don't ask questions?
I remember I went to high school in a poor ghetto area. I had some friends who were really amazing musicians. Luther was one; he would write Prince-type songs and I would solo over them. My friend, Ramon, was a total genius. He played every instrument very well. I would give him tapes of my most complicated guitar songs and he would come back the next day playing everything on guitar just perfectly. He played drums on my high school performance on the Hot Licks video. He has since produced Digital Underground and Tupac Shakur. I have heard from two different sources that Digital Underground liked my music. Man, that means a lot to me.
I guess I just want you high school friends to know that you really had an influence on me. Thanks.
I am doing an interview for a Romanian magazine. Here is one of their questions, and my answer:
Does your belief in God help you to carry on? What's your own view on religion?
"Well, that's a big question, but in a nutshell, yes, it does. My own view on religion is that it should only be good. It should not start or justify wars, it should not judge anyone, it should not ostrasize anyone, it should be kind and generous always, never evil or judgmental. It should make everyone want to make the world a better place for all people all over the world. It should make us want to help each other and it should be fair to all people. It should wipe out hatred, prejudice, genocide, bigotry and poverty. It should make war a lowly-evolved thing of the past. And, it should make great artists, poets, musicians, nurses, and teachers at least as wealthy as politicians and business CEO's."
Peace,
Jason

Ok guys, I'm at I guess you would call it a... dilema. I'm in a 3D-Animating class where we're doing some video and audio editing. Our project is too choose a song and make a music video that will be displayed infront of the whole class. So the problem is I need too choose a song. The question is what. When I thought of it the first thing that came to my head was of course Mr. Gilbert or Thal. Something like Technical Difficulties or Joget Melayuversi Metal or Turn Around or Strawberry Footrot or something along the lines of those. But I want have more options. So I was wondering is there something I else I could maybe choose? I've already eliminated anything Jazz, because it will most likely either get people bored(Go figure) or something along the lines of that. Fusion is alright but nothing too Jazzy. Also no monsterous crazy like 20 nps+ sweeping, etc.(I.E. Rusty Cooley) Neo-Classical is fine, but... none with any lyrics, because majority of Neo-Classical songs with lyrics suck balls. NOT all but most. Prog is alright, BUT(Again)... nothing too proggy like crazy epic 12+ minute songs. And also nothing too ambient. And then finaly experimental... you know along lines of Thal, Mattias, Buckethead, etc. If you choose something crazy don't make it too crazy. Please help me choose one. :(

2. Run your video at 1.5x speed or 2x speed so all the outlandish things your doing(running around, pointing at stuff and everyone following etc) will be even more cool.

Maybe you are taking the argument too literally. But they are probably trying to argue against you logically, when they shouldn't be
I think this might be a clarified version of their intended argument, (as opposed to"music has emotion in it" which makes no logical sense to you because emotion is intangible)... If speech/tone of voice can convey emotion, why can't music?
Think in terms of what the music may be expressing, while yes it's certainly subjective, so are our interpretations of human emotion expressed through language. Try and be open minded and exert yourself into thinking a little abstractly. ;)
Channel your inner hippy and try to see why us idealistic no-nothing CR fans still prefer David Gilmour over Yngwie. :)
TheUltimateSin
09-01-2006, 04:10 PM
Well, I mean, here is a small bit of what happened:
The argument started before I came into the picture. I came in and I presented logical reasoning as to why there is no emotion in music.
The retort? They compared Hendrix to Yngwie and pulled the "shred-bashing and how shredders play with no emotion" card.
gtgram14
09-01-2006, 04:15 PM
Well, I agree on that argument being completley idiotic, being a big shred fan myself, but that goes back to what i said about them trying to argue logically, they are young, and stupid, and don't realize that it's not a straight forward yes/no kinda thing.
And you shouldn't bother with them if they are so pretentious they think their opinion on hendrix/yngwie happens to be any better than yours.
EDIT: Maybe some of them aren't that young...they're just stupid :)

What I'm saying is that argument does stem out of somewhere, and it's not something that should be completley disregarded. I'm just trying to explain it somewhat coherently because the majority of the people who try and argue it here are vegetables.

Where did you find that out anyway?
Well apprently Thal is a member of the Petrucci forum. Soemone asks him some questions and he answers him. Here's the thread: http://www.petrucciforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=69
He asks him some questions about some Guitarist and he's being sarcastic except about Vai.
John Petrucci: TERRIBLE. *God awful. *So unprecise. *No technique, no control. *Just a big mess. *And not a very nice guy either.
Steve Morse: Tasty.
Michael Angelo: I like his work on the Sistine Chapel, but putting horns on the David statue didn't help anyone.
Paul Gilbert: I REALLY want to join his Beatles cover band...!
Alex Lifeson: http://www.dinosaurrockguitar.com/dinothinking.shtml#ALDisease
Kirk Hammett: I hope the next CD sounds more like Puppets than Load...
Greg Howe: fucking popstar...
Mattias: no sense of humor.
Steve Vai: he hates my stuff. *Seriously, he does.
(please don't take anything I've said too seriously. *Except for Vai hating my stuff.)
And his post is here: http://www.petrucciforum.com/forums/showpost.php?p=233&postcount=15

so in that case, I'll burn just the songs I like onto a random CD or put 'em on an exterior device

This guy on the Buckethead.tk forum is saying that technicaly wise Buckethead is better then Ron Thal... I'm a huge fan of Bucket but no way. Then he contradicts himself.
Sorry dude, I've watched both players for years now, and as far as technicality Bucket is way better simply because he is cleaner. Also, Bucket is much slower than he used to be. When he was 20, that mo' fugga could outshred anyone, cleanly. I agree that there are more technical guys out there, I study classical guitar at FSU man, I get to see ten to fifteen of the greatest guitarists on Earth on a daily basis. No one has the technicality of a well trained classical guitarist. They're faster, cleaner, have better tone, and they don't use effects to achieve such things. Arguing guitarists is getting pretty lame though so if there's a huge backlash I'll try to refrain from bickering. Its all music, enjoy it and don't be a nazi.

**** man that's what i've been thinking! Half of the people who are "grieving" are doing it to fit in. I've been saying that since like the second day after he died and everyone thinks im some big bad insensitive arsehole. Most people are faking the grief and just posting RIP because everyone else is.
Aye.
Oh shi- Frank Gambale is comnig to Tone Merchants, I'm not sure I should go since it's like an hour drive from where I'm at, and because I think I might have made plans already previously.(It's this Friday) : /
Go!
Man, shut up.
Some of us have out guilty pleasures that we love, like watching the Crocodile Hunter. So again, shut up.
Learn to read, you shut up, and you get over it.
Glad that's sorted.

Yeah, you could say that... Though I haven't a clue what I've said that can be disagreed with..

I was fond of Steve, mostly as a side effect of being very fond of animals (crocodile is yummy - 100% serious). Truly was a freak accident - only ONE other austrailian has been fatally injured by a stingray, and it's just bad luck. Tbh, i expected a much more nasty, bloody death, but i wouldnt have been pleased.
Everyone's luck runs out at some point.

Getting stabbed through the heart isn't a nasty blood death?

See Erc's post. Bearing in mind this is a guy who dangled vipers from one hand and bounced them up and down, and lived in a country where the crocs get 20+ feet long, i would say that the fact that he had all his limbs left when he died was a miracle.

Hey y'all I'm back, and though its kinda sad I've been missing alot of you. I have been a homeless nomad for a few months living at other peoples houses and the like so all my privelages but guitar were gone (awsome woodsheddin time) I wont have internet for a week or two but this is just a one off to say hello.
I will try and get a clip of me perfoming flight of the bumblebee up to show everyone what I have been up to(cant do it now so maybe in that week or so) All the guitar folks are coming to Australia which makes me very happy :D I have tickets to G3, Yngwie and Tommy Emanuel- Claptons coming too but it sold out straight away and it was way too expensive. So anyway anything unbelievable amaziming happen while I was gone? looking foward to hearing about it.
Catch you all in a little bit :peace:

Some buttpirates in The Pit are taking credit for the A7xownz incident!
One of the most notable UG moderators went by the name of 'A7xownz'. His first posts on the site were about an Avenged Sevenfold guitar solo, during which he was repeatedly "pwned" and called a "nOOb". Eventually the UG community, or the "Pit Monkeys" convinced A7xownz to message a Super Admin known as Casualty01 and request modship. Cas saw the joke, and gave A7xownz mod status, but no real power over UG. Less than a week later A7xownz was permanently banned from UG, much to the amusment of both the Mods and the users. No further contact has been made with A7xownz, it is beleived that his permanent ban shattered his dreams of being 'cool' or 'down with the homies'. He currently resides in a hut in Iceland with a small yak named Yorvik. He is still 'pwned' on a regular basis by nearby wildlife.
