Alright @ Godly Moose, and anyone who's interested: here are two links to various backing tracks. They include tracks by MAB, DT, Gary Moore, Steve Morse etc, and also many tracks that, as far as I know, don't belong to any band or artist ( except for the person who made them ;) ). The quality of the tracks varies, but since there are so many of them I couldn't be bothered to sort them all out ;) Besides, I can't judge what other people's idea of quality is :p:
Anyway, download them here:

I used to be a big fan of Therion and their frontman Christopher Johnsson... I'd pretty much heard all their previous albums. They are probably testimonials to the genre of symphonic metal, the arrangements beat anything Nightwish or any of the commercial black metal bands have ever done...
for my english seminar on mythology, my team is doing a lil' presentation on the influence of Norse Myths in popular culture, primarily music. I just d/l Therion's "Secret of the Runes" thus... great album, and watch out for Christopher Johnsson shredding balls to the wall!

Three Masterplan albums? The self-titled one, Aeronautics and which other one then? I only know the first two...
I don't have high expectations for their future albums ( and I agree with Resi that their first one is the best of the lot) now that vocalist Jorn Lande left the band. For me he was the main reason I got into Masterplan in the first place.
I never really took the time to check out Kamelot, and I don't know the other two bands, but I do like Pagan's Mind very much. ( Enigmatic Calling for instance)

It's some sort of demo release with 4 tracks on it, I'd have to take a look to see what it's called.
And on another note, Jorn Lande's solo stuff isn't half bad either.

I like the first album best, mostly because of Jon's god-like vocals. His solo stuff is good but those songs are a bit simple for my tastes.

Andromeda is very good, maybe try II = I to start off. Pagan's Mind I'm not a big fan of, but most prog fans seem to like them. For Royal Hunt, I've only heard Paradox, so I'm not of much help there... it is a good album though, if you're interested.

They're not very original or groundbraking in their compositions, but they do have a sound of their own which might appeal to some people here.
@ Flamencogod: if you thought Jorn's vocals on the first Masterplan album were god-like, you ought to check out his performance on Beyond Twilight's " The Devil's Hall of Fame". He has never sung like that before, or after for that matter.

Maybe you(or some of you) remember me talking about that nerve condition I might have had? I found out a little more information. It's called Thoracic Outlet Syndrome. It affects the nerves and muscles running through the arms from the neck. It causes weakness and numbness in said affected area. It gets worse over time, almost to the point of losing all feeling in those areas, and there is no way to really cure it. It's genetic. And, ...I have it.
So, in short, I'm fucked as far as being able to play guitar goes. It's not everyday you get to see your dreams burn :)

Well, there's nothing I can do about it. I'm going to keep playing as long as I can. That's about all I can do.
I suppose score writing, midi programming, etc, won't help?
However, how about singing?
Otherwise, i don't know what to say. At least you'll still have the ears to enjoy music.

Exactly my thoughts. Hope that everything goes the best it possibly can.

Whoa... harsh. Think positive man. If you want to write music there's at least programs to do so. I hope you still have the will to compose music. Until then; play as much as you can. My best regards.

Eh..I'm not much of a composer. I'm not proficient enough(or at all) in music and/or theory to be able to write anything yet. But, as soon as I break my horrible procrastination, I am going to sit my ass down and learn.
And singing is out of the question. My singing could make a deaf man wince in pain :p:

Everyone can learn to sing... Maybe not the most beautiful ever, but everyone can learn to sing bearably. :)

I rest my case :p:
But anyway, I'm not too worried about it right now. I'll just keep playing as long as I can. Then maybe I'll take up classical piano..or something similar that won't require too much strenuous finger movement. I won't let this ruin my interest in playing music, that's for sure.

No they can't. People who are tone deaf can only very slightly improv their ear. Nothing enough to be able to sing in tune on their own accord though....
US is a different story. The chances of him being able to sing in tune a hugely greater by virtue of the fact that he plays an instrument and even more so if you listened to a lot of music at a young age.

I'm talking about the voice alone, proper breathing techniques, vibrato, etc... I'm assuming he knows how to sing in key, which is pretty obvious, considering the whole guitar thing...

Bearably has is a rather relative measure I have to say. Largely based on personal opinion It's quite safe to say some voice boxes possess better tonality than others. It's what makes some singers naturally good and some naturally bad. Training helps with control and maybe increases your vocal range. But if you sound like crap, you're just gonna be able to control the crap and maybe have a wider range of crap. Yet again, purely relative.

Nope, if you sound like crap, you definitely (if you don't have any respiratory illnesses or anything like that) learn to sound ok. This all coming from a vocal coach for 40 years.

2 of my cousins just died in a car crash about an hour ago. I don't know any details about how, where, etc. just that it happened. Strangely enough, between my parents and my sister I'm the only one not crying. I'm sad and I feel a little empty, but I'm not as sad as I expected I would be at a relative's death...
Sorry, not the right place for this but I needed to get it out. I'm going to go listen to The Spirit Carries On now.

:( Sorry to hear about your loss... You never know how you'll respond to tragic news like that, and no one can tell you how you're supposed to react either.
You just have to undergo every emotion, and hopefully the support you and your relatives can give each other will make the loss a little more bearable.
Take care.

Thanks man, I appreciate it. One of the weird things about it is that one of the two that died was named after my uncle, who happened to die in a car crash as well a long time ago.

Man, that's something strange alright, and maybe makes the situation even more dramatic...
However, don' t focus on that similarity too much though: it's not going to give you any answers to certain questions you might have.
