Well my family is getting an apartment in the mountains and I'm going to be going there quite often. Therefore, I need a relatively cheap guitar that I can leave up there so that I don't have to drag it along everytime I go up there. The most important thing is that it has at least one humbucker and prefferably a maple fretboard (this isn't an absolute must though). Preferably 300€ or cheaper, but I could stretch my budget. I wouldn't mind buying used, but here in Switzerland it's hard to find used guitars. So what do you guys suggest?
Thanks in advance.
Edit: I forgot to mention that it needs to be really durable, so no (semi)hollowbodies.

aaah just bought my first tube amp! and it was a bargain at about $600! a B52 AT 112 (1 X 12"). now that's warm sweet tone... I've been playing everything from Hendrix to Yngwie on it for the past 4 hours without using ANY kinda effects, my axe straight thru to the amp... I'd always been kinda scared of doing that before, it was almost like being naked... but hell this baby feels my pulse alright... and boy I can't even turn the volume beyond 3 without this thing rattling the basement...
:headbang:
PS: anyone else use this amp or have anything to say about it?

I'm sort of new to the Shredding idea, as well as the metronome (stupid, I know - I should've have started using one a long time ago), but I've been using this online metronome here --> http://tinyurl.com/y2udm4
I'm also working on this exercise for tremolo picking that suggests a beginning speed of 80-100 BPM, but I thought it was too easy. It also suggested 160 BPM as a high speed, so just for fun I tried it out and... it was easy. In fact, I tried it at 208 BPM and it was still really easy.
Obviously there's something I'm misunderstanding. I can alternate pick quickly, but I'm still only a beginner at tremolo picking.
Basically this exercise consists of hitting a note four times before moving on to another, so am I supposed to hit each note on each "tick" or am I supposed to try and get each group of the same note in between each "tick"?
Thanks.

IE(Not 7, because I don't have 7) is to blargh, one being I like how organized the tabs with Firefox are(I know IE 7 has tabs now as well.) Second being security, there many flaws in IE, with the butt loads of crappy plug ins changing your homepage, adding tons of tool bars, etc. I still need to try Opera.

I think it is. Because always when I record/play to my computer's line-in, my playing sounds somewhat muddy and sloppy. For a long time I thought it was because of my technique, but then when I played through some "real" tube amps I realised that my technique was clean and the slop was because of the recording method I'm using.

For him I would recommend Giant Robot, The Elephant Mans Alarm Clock, and Monsters and Robots. Giant Robot is really good, very mixed. EMAC(The Elephant Mans Alarm Clock) is very heavy, if you want really heavy of him get that. And Monsters and Robots is kinda like somewhat heavy with some urban mix, turn tables, etc. If you want a slower album I recommend Electric Tears whole album is just him on acoustic, and electric. If you want more Jazzy try Population Overdrive, or full Jazz/Fusion thing try Octaves of the Holy Innocent, if you want a mix of like metal/fusion/funk/hip-hop try Praxis, wonderful album. Overall I would say though EMAC would be the best album to start out with.

Wow...
Incredible story, Stephen Heywood and Jackson
Hey Everyone,
So, at 5 a.m. Saturday morning, Serrana, her son James, Dave Dunlop and the man who knew Yogananda, Ken Olsen, drove to San Ramon for our last Darshan with Amma. We got there at 6:15 a.m. and went to our normal night spot in the Ashram. Since Serrana was with me and Dave was with Ken, we lost track of six year old James. It isn't really a big deal, he always runs around with other kids there, it is like a family atmosphere, but there were five to ten thousand people there, inside and outside so you can understand Serrana's worry. Amma had been hugging people from 7 p.m. Friday evening to eventually 1 p.m. Saturday afternoon with no break for food or even standing up to stretch or go to the bathroom. After a while Serrana got worried and Dave was helping Ken, out of sight, so she went to look for James. This is not unusual. I can be left alone for a bit. Earlier that morning Serrana had taped a connection point of my breathing tubes together, just in case.
About ten seconds after she left, despite the tape, my tubes popped off, leaving me no connection to the vent at all. My vent alarm went off, but the devotional music was so loud that no one around me heard it. I looked at the clock because I wanted to see how long I would be without air. It was three minutes to seven. I mentally called to Amma. I was fairly calm at first. I tried to make faces at people, but they weren't getting it. After four minutes, my chest was getting blazing hot and I was getting dizzy. People finally saw that I was in a panic, but they didn't know what to do. After over five minutes they saw Serrana and told her to hurry back. She connected my tubes.
During the last minute that I was off the vent I was sure I would die. Later that day, Dave's wife Jan said that the night before, she dreamed that I had died at the Ashram.
Another freaky and sad coincidence also happened. Stephen Heywood is a man who got ALS some years back. He and his brother Jamie started the ALS Therapy Development Foundation(als-tdf). I have donated to them. They are a foundation I really respect. Stephen is sort of like me in that he is cool and lives a very productive life and always cracks jokes. Well, early Friday morning he had almost the same thing happen to him, but unfortunately he did not survive. He was my age, 37. Man, I am so sorry. I can't believe it. Jamie, and your family, my heart goes out to you, big time. I love you all.
I really don't feel like saying much else. I am feeling sort of humbled and mushy. Thank you Amma, my friends at the Ashram and everywhere else in the world. Thank you Serrana (My constant savior), Marilyn (it is really fun hanging with you lately), Mom and Oh Mine Papa. Big love to y'all. You too Jyoti.
Oh yeah, I guess I better mention this. I got my numbered guitar from Jackson. It is way cool. Anyone of you who wants one should write to Jackson and tell them. They need to see that there is interest.
Peace and Love,
Jason

Dude that was the truest thing I've heard in my entire life. Slash can bust out some crazy solos, but in every song, even the ones that aren't famous, he puts tons of thought into every solo. Guys like Buckethead... Well first before I get a bad name for sayin sometin bad about Buckethead, I wanna say he is an abslutely unbelievable guitarist, definitely up there with some of the best, but Slash actually sits down, Les Paul in hand, and plays a few penatonic scales or some power chords every time he wants to write I solo. Not a matter of opinion, Slash is known for his use of various penatonic scales. Pure fact. Buckethead, again, being a great guitarist, might sit down and think about his solos, maybe a penatonic occasionally, but it's all speed for him. In a lot of Buckethead's solos, he plays so fast you can probsbly hear every third note he hits, IF you listen very closely. Psh he might screw up the solo 50 times but you'd never know it cause it goes so fast you'll never even notice a wrong note. That's all cool with me. It all boils down to this: Music either sounds good or bad. Some, like Stairway to Heaven, can be so good it goes down in history as one of the greatest songs ever written. Slash writes classic solos, no way around it. Sweet Child O' Mine has a very famous and distinct intro, and I would bet you the computer I'm typing on he used several penatonics when writing that song. You can't say much for Buckethead, except he's fast. Who cares? Music isn't a game of speed. That's Nascar. Like I said, it sounds good or bad. Buckethead will never write a "Sweet Child O' Mine" or a "Stairway to Heaven". If he sat down and tried to get faster every day, someone somewhere will be able to play faster. It's inevitable. Stairway to Heaven isn't about speed, and Jimmy Page got famous from that and other songs like it. He didn't try to play fast. He tried to sound good. Buckethead sounds great, but compared to a rocker like Slash, although Slash isn't always a shredder(Never shithead!), Slash has better solos. I know this was way too long, but I've been frustrated about Slash being overlooked so often, and I thought I'd just unload it all. That's all I got to say.
God damn, i wish i knew this guy in real live to slice his throat open. Do people even listen to Buckethead music or do they think he is a guitar pro file that plays 64th notes????
These people need to buy a cd! An instructional video does not show Bucketheads thought and music, it shows you how to sweep and tap and whatnot!

That is one great video. Frank was one of the funniest people ever, and his sheer wit just pwned the fuddly-dud with the glasses. I love the part when John Lofton says,
"You once made a song called 'We're Only in it For the Money. How much money do you make peddlin' this stuff Mr. Zappa?"
Frank: "Millions of dollars, millions of dollars."
John: "Yeah, I bet."
The point of that song is to criticize the whole "make tons of money, don't care about the music."
It's almost a joke that they have that Lofton guy on there.

Just open the avatar gif or jpeg in mspaint, enlarge it, draw the hat, shrink it back again(using magnifying tool) and save. ;)

Close - at one point, that WAS what i looked like, it ain't anymore, tbh. I'm about 4 years older, 18 rather than 14. My hair has only been cut twice in the last three years and is just about perfectly nipple length, as opposed to spiky. And it used to be really spiky, a la Matt Bellamy Origin of Symmetry era. :)
My mum took the picture due to safety pins from lip to ear. :)
Speaking of which, i know this isn't normally kosher online, but here's a pic of my mum - http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y274/freepower/switzerland014.jpg

Erotic Cakes arrived.:D My life has added meaning now...
In other news, in the January edition of Guitar World, "shredder dickface drunkard" extraordinaire Sam Totman said, when asked 'No one is making original guitar music anymore, discuss.' His awesome and oh so inspirational response was "If you think about it,there are only eight chords on the guitar and only a certain number of combinations in which you can play them."...My mouth sat open for a few minutes after reading that...
Shit interview too. It was of a load of them(the "new shredders",Trivium, BFMV, Dragonforce and Kirk Hammet)..The amount of ridiculous statements in it and contradictions and hypocritical statements was just unreal...
But yeah, Erotic Cakes did arrive today. :)

Yeah that interview was copied from the Total Guitar "guitar superhero summit" this summer... I think Total Guitar was nice enough to Totman not to include what he said.
