Well getting drunk is still kinda..I dont see why youd WANT to be drunk. You have no idea whats going on. If you want to waste time, sleep or something, you dont have to drink and potentially pose problems to everyone around you, and maybe yourself

Anyone a fan of the 1.0 mm Stubbies? I recently got a hold of these and I absolutely love them, although the tips seem to wear down somewhat quickly. Steve Vai <newsletter@vai.com> to me
show details 11:21 am (3 hours ago)
Hi Folks,
Well, I was sitting here thinking, it's been a while since I was out there with my own band playing a full show, but would it make sense to tour on an orchestra record since that's what's being released?
If I don't get out for at least a little bit now, it may not be another 2 years before I get a chance to.
What if I just do a quick stint of Europe and the US? Yeah, I'm feeling that need to get out and play for you all again.
OKAY - HOW ABOUT THESE SHOWS BELOW?

Jul 20 - Manchester, UK
Jul 21 - Nottingham, UK
Jul 22 - London, UK
Jul 24 - Dublin, Ireland
Jul 26 - To Be Announced
Jul 28 - Moscow, Russia
We'll announce venues shortly, check the Vai.com Tour Dates page for links to tickets for Holland and France which are on sale now. There are still a few cities to be confirmed above, and we'll announce US dates later.
WILL THERE BE AN EVO EXPERIENCE?
I enjoyed the last one very much and I do have some ideas for a new one. Let's do it! Unfortunately we can't do EVO for festival shows. For shows already on sale (like Paris) EVO Experience passes will be sold separately from tickets.
WHAT ABOUT THE BAND?
Hmmm, well, since it's a relatively short tour it might be a good opportunity to do something different and perhaps change the band up.
It's tough. The Breed is like a family to me and although I know that we can probably get together anytime and do a gig or tour, this is may be a good opportunity to try something a little different. Tony and Billy won't be joining me on this run - but they are actually doing a project together and you won't want to miss them when they tour Europe in October!
So, since there is no studio album with a firm band that I'm touring on, anything goes. I'm thinking of having a violin player in the band that can understand how to play like a violin player but still rip it up when necessary. Imagine some of those guitar lines doubled with a violin. That's pretty strung up!
Well, let's see how auditions go.
WHAT MUSIC ARE WE GOING TO PLAY?
I guess a lot of this will have to do with who the band ends up being, but whatever it is I would like to do a lot of songs that have never been performed live before, such as "Die to Live," "Lucky Charms," the last movement of the "Fire Garden Suite" etc. I'm sure we can do some things from the new Sound Current CD. I have a feeling "The Murder" may be pretty harmonically defiant.
WHAT ABOUT THE NEXT RECORD?
When I jump into "Real Illusions Part 2," it's going to take quite some time to finish it so perhaps we can record a live record from this tour with all new songs, similar to the way we did "Alive in an Ultra World". I only hope that I can walk that walk after talking the talk.
We can record new songs one at a time per show.
Okay then, new tour, new band, new music and a new live recording, and you're all invited! And I am going to request that this tour is an "All Ages" event in every city. I'm hoping this will be possible.
Keep an eye on Vai.com for more info.

Oh my. Those arent the arpeggios I learned :( The ones I learned had ridiculous fingerings. I probably could have learned them faster :haha Well the first arpeggio, you only have to change position twice, try and make the stretch from the 5 to the 9th fret, and land on the 9th with your third finger, so your pinky can reach the 10th fret.
Kailoq
03-27-2007, 02:33 PM
These might be wrong though...as far as tabs can be wrong. The notes sound right, but there might be different ways of playing it.
I play the first shape with my index, pinky, ring, ring, index and then I slide to the 9 with my index and continue from there, only moving my hand again when I slide from 9 to 5 with my index once again.
The other ones are giving me more problems though :(

No offense, but why should I believe in you? What is your lesson plan? "Here is what it is. Here is how i play it (providing you can). Learn it." I mean, you're preparing the night before, and then don't even have the written material for the guys lesson ready. How about, instead of posting on UG that you have to learn the piece for your pupil, you print him the bloody tab?
A pupil who would be ready to play that kind of piece should NOT be learning them in lesson time unless they demonstrate points of technique or he really can't get a handle on it without help. Speaking of bloody tabs - in what way did he learn it better than you than off the tab? I'm not accusing you of not teaching - what did you actually need to help him with?

llol youre a rough one eh? Well I wanted to show him more advanced arpeggios, since he was only working on 3 and 4 string arpeggios at the time. Im not forcing you to believe me on anything, since it won't affect me in any way. I can play it just fine, I didnt say that he learned it better than me, I just said he found an easier tab. And it takes what, 2 minutes to write out the tabs for him? Writing the tab out isnt a big deal. We went over fingerings, picking patterns, etc. I wrote the tabs before he came anyways, it didnt deduct from our lesson time. What we did was, I showed him the tabs, played it for him, asked him to observe my fingerings and picking patterns, and then I asked him to look at the shapes and try to learn them, and then we refined it. Hes not learning anything but technique for now, so chill. I dont have to explain to him that its in Am or anything. Not now at least.

When you go see a live band, and they have a full orchestra behind them in the recording, would you like it more if they had just a single keyboardist, playing a small parts of the orchestra, or would you like it better if there was the full, prerecorded orchestra and choir playing in the background, but everything else like guitars and drums is live?

Do any of you guys know or remember those shredding trainer picks that were out a long time ago, they were black, and at the bottom of the pick, there would be this pyramid thing attached to the pick, and you had to grab the pick so that your finger only leaves the pyramid out to pick, it showed you how to hold it so its easy to pick fast. Ive been looking, I only have 1, and I want to buy more to show my students.

Batio is ambidextrous, and can play two guitars at the same time — either in synchronized or separate harmonies. He also invented and successfully played the very first 'quad' guitar. However, the instrument was stolen during a Nitro show in El Paso, Texas, and only two of the four parts required for its assembly have ever been recovered. It is because of this that he has not played the quad guitar in many years. The Double Guitar is another of his innovative inventions (along with the 'string dampener'), which he commonly uses live and in studio recordings.

A variety of Suhr guitars with a variety of Cornfords. For his old live stuff he seemed to be using mainly Hellcats (my personal favorite, and Prophet Of Page of this forum owns one, that ****), but for the recording of Erotic Cakes he used the Richie Kotzen model, also by Cornford, and I think now he's mainly using Cornford MKs.

Yes, but how many of your average persons can/will make that distinction? After all, to them, fast picking = shred.

Exactly. They don't know what tremolo picking is. It's fast thus it's shred.

Right. Very few of your Average Joe's are musically educated enough to know things like that. And the majority of them don't care either. They have the "fast = shred" embedded into their mind so deep that they will refuse to accept any evidence to the contrary.

Ok, here's the deal. I am in dire need of a new amp. My little peavy rage 158( I know, I know) isn't cutting it anymore. I am currently able to spend roughly $700-$800 USD. I'd like something with Gilbert-ish tone(but that's not deathly important. Would be a nice plus though), and good clean tone, new if possible, with my price range. Any suggestions?

I don't know much about amps, so......yeah
I'm just looking for something that will give me good clean tone and, if possible, Gilbert-esque distorted tone. The latter isn't a requirement, but something of that effect. Just...good clean+distorted is what I'm looking for basically.

i bought my mark IV off ebay no problems but if your paranoid, then the VC 30 is a way to go. other options: Traynor Blue. Gets from crisp clean to shred tones to metal. Excelletn tube amp. I prefer it over the laney sometimes.
^for the budget TUS has, there are far far better things than an avt 275

It's not so much that I'm paranoid. It's that I've heard of, and know of, people getting screwed over on ebay. But as I said, I'll do my homework before ordering off of ebay. I've been recommended the Marshall JMC900 by some friends. Any negative comments form you guys about that one? I listened to some audio sampling of it on youtube and it sounded pretty good to me. Is the JMC900 just the head or is it the whole set-up?
Again, I know little about amps so that is why I ask.

A friend of mine has a Mashall halfstack (can't remember the model). He got it covered in fake snake skin and now we call it the snake stack.
Marshall's usually have smaller speakers in them too, although i don't think that would present a serious problem. I could be wrong about that though.
