I'm sorry if this has been done before but, which shredders guitar would you want most? I mean one that they own & have modified, not one that you can buy at a store.

I'd want Paul Gilberts Blue and Pink (yeah, I said pink) PGM. The one that says Pablo Gilberto one the side. Or Vai's FLO Jem, that would be amazing too.

This threads got a little slow, so heres some food for thought - two new tracks, one with exotic tapping - http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=209025 (arps and pedal tones, and two handed chords without tapping...hehe)

And some straight blues chilli pepper rock and or roll - http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=209022 which has my first ever pinched harmonic in it, go me!

As you can see, the shred forum has been giving me plenty of ideas, and you guys now have a song dedicated to you in my dmusic - "shredola espagnola!" Cheesily named for you shredders, ya big cheese lovers!

Onto a new topic - whats the cheesiest shred song name you can think of? I'm voting "Speed Kills" to get the ball rolling!

why do you want resi's man babies? Other than producing the amazing shredbaby...

As for your question, im not quite sure what you mean. And what does your typing have to do with it?

I presume you mean, you find it easier alt picking from high e to low (direction wise) than the other way round for your sweeping?

If so, im the exact opposite, but im not particularly good at either, by shred standards.

Yeah, MacAlpine is the fastest in the Breed. I think Weiners only reason for being in the band is so he can play backup guitar while Tony is playing keyboards. He has the best job in the world though, doing relatively easy guitar parts, and getting paid by Steve Vai.

i met joe satriani yesterday !! and then went to the best show of my life!

i asked him when g3 was coming to india. he said probably next year. he then added that steve vai and john petrucci were jealous of him because he got to play in india.

i told him that he was divine inspiration. i asked him if he would let me play in g3 after like 10 yrs when i become a good guitarist. he laughed and said, " gotta practise hard for that ". i asked him if he had any news about jason becker and he said no. he was showing some people his site and a forum there, and said that he reads the stuff in the forums quite regularly. i wanted to ask him some better questions, but he was whisked away by the stupid security.

then in the evening, he was unbelievable. his performance was nothing like what we hear in the records, and after every song there were divine legatos. i was awestruck. this man played like 10times faster than what we hear in the studio albums, and at one point after some song, he just went on and on and on, sweeping, tapping, like a crazy ****.

Christianity started off as a branch of Judaism.

And I'm sorry, there's no POSSIBLE way you can take a monotheistic religion and call it a ripoff of any polytheistic one. :haha

The pagans werent actually polytheistic, they just seemed like it, and the common populace was allowed to believe it. Then you were initiated into the mysteries.

The story of the son of god, comeing down to earth, human form, virgin birth, death on the cross for our sins, was all written by pagans.

However, the new testament was written by alexandrian jews, who embraced the pagan religion and wrote it new way to explain it to the Jews (that was allowed in paganism). Somewhere along the way, idiots took over, and killed all the true pagans (well, most of em) and then they ALL took it literally and decided to kill everyone who disagreed. Even forged extra bits into the new testament...

So, are we both right or do you want to dispute that?

There's nothing to dispute, I wasn't arguing or anything, just pointing something out lol.

"Paganism" isn't a religion. It's an insanely vague term that (at first, used derogatively) is used to describe any polytheistic belief.

The ancient Romans were pagans, the Greeks were pagans, the Norse were Pagans, the Sumerians, etc etc. Even though they all had different gods, beliefs, practices, rituals, and so forth, they are still classed as "pagans", which becomes a bit of a misnomer.

Satriani is unreal live. I was fortunate enough to see him at the House of Blues in Chicago for his Evening With...tour. He sounds so amazing live, even live cds don't do him justice. hahaha Frank Gambale's "Gambale When it's Wet" has got some of the most scariest sweeps I've seen... "Serrana" by Jason Becker most definitely... a lot of Malmsteen stuff has liberal amounts of sweeps, but they are arranged in a manner which in itself for a decent shredder, shouldn't be too difficult, when one has got hold of sweep picking. Michael Romeo plays some sweet sweeps during the intro to "Smoke and Mirror's" not blitzkrieg speed, but very well arranged and sounds killer. (not easy to play in its entirety by any margin) Michael Angelo's "Speed Kills" of course must be mentioned for some really fast sweep/tapping... but Frank Gambale pretty much pwns in this particular technique! putting speed aside, the quirky shapes that he executes thru sweeps is simply amazing.

And its the same with any music. its just that all sweeps sound so similar at high speed that they become pretty much the same sound, therefore if you listen to them for a while, then you get tired of it quickly.

Tut tut, some music has a noise, then a noise higher or lower (with phrasing resi!).

Its when theres fast sequences of identical noises with no phrasing it sounds like ONE noise getting higher or lower.

But using interesting sweeps really helps.

Just bought Live At Astoria London by the way. It's quite amazing, allthough Steve's guitar sounds out of tune in some places.

At the Best Buy near my home, there's a decent selection of shred records. Usually 4-5 Vai and Satriani cds, and maybe 3-4 Malmsteen cds. They always have Vai's Astoria DVD, and Satriani's San Fransisco DVD. They have a couple of Dream Theater cds also.

I did find Racer X: Technical Difficulties and Street Lethal there, but those were the only Racer X cds they had; most of my shred cds were bought online.

Congrats on your JEM7VWH, by the way.

Well, the Best Buy by me carries just about no Shred whatsoever. They have Steve Vai's Anthology, everthing Satch has ever put out, and Yngwie's Greatest Hits. Thats all i have ever seen at best buy.

But I dont go to Best Buy too much, considering they dont carry alot of good records, theres this local cd shop by me that i go to, They have everything. Used and New. Its actually the place where i got the unbelivably hard to find, Powers of Ten. They seem to carry allot of Marty Friedman as well, havent seen much Jason Becker there, nor Cacophony.

Try and find a copy of "Powers of 10", which might be hard, since they're out of print now...

Or try and find a copy of The Mark Varney Project with Lane, Gambale, and Garsed.... One of his albums with Hellborg, or The Tri-Tone Fascination.

Meh, thats a hard question, Vai has put it out/ is putting out some great stuff.

My favorite album would have to be Alive in an Ultra World, just because of its sheer brilliance and every track on that album from start to finish is great. But then again allot of Vai records are like that.
Favorite song off of it? Eh, I guess i would have to go with Giant Balls of Gold, its just an all-around great song. Great Riff's, and Playing. Cant beat that Into Riff. And of course, its an awsome name.:p:

Favorite song off RI is probably building the church. I love the feeling that it creates for the listener.

Well im not totally sure on why you dont need, but I know you dont, I was asking Toxicity the same questions for my RG and you dont need it in the neck. F-spacing is for Floyd guitars, and the Bridge is closest to the Floyd i guess, or something. Im sure it would be alright to get them both F-spaced, but i dont think the Neck needs to be. Someone else maybe can clarify that for you.

outfits and Grahm Bonnet was wearing sun glasses flanel pants and a shirt and tie Yngwie was in it to and he actually played a solo that went with the song. I realise he really has lost his ability to keep up with his earlyier self not one slopy note in the solo love to see Yngwie play it now.

howcome whenever i watch vh1 there's only shows about celebrities and how they treat their pets ??

yngwie malmsteen is very good in any alcatrazz song and all his solos go with the song.

i think steve vai.
steve vai's emotions compliment his playing. from what i've seen from the g3 dvd's maybe steve vai.

he's pretty clever at all these stage theatrics.

two weeks ago, i went to a satriani concert. Hes got pretty good stage presence too. He was running all over the stage for 2 and a half hours or so (although he did much more than just that) . i heard he had a 3 hour rehersal before that. pretty good stamina for a 49 year old man.

Sounds like a midi glitch, theres some things that caused it with me, like playing the notes in the guitar setup, you should be able to just play it again and it'll work.

Get some elastic bands and put them around all your fingers and thumb on your fretting hand. Then open and close your fingers and it will get strength up quite quickly. You may need more elastic bands or "double up" a single elastic band depending on what bands you are using.

Or fully extend all your fingers (so they are as far apart as possilble) and then make a fist, then fully extend repeat for a LONG time. You need to do it pretty quickly too if you do it slowly it won't do anything.

Is it just me or does everyone get annoyed by people who don't recognise the skill it takes to play shred. I was sitting in a guitar shop playing Tender Surrender on a JEM 7VWH(sp?) and this girl came up to me and said "that's rubbish, all that is is finger tapping. I bet you can't play What's may age again by blink182, Tom finds that difficult to play so it must be hard."

Why are these people allowed to pollute our guitar shops? And even more, the are in sound control where the keep the Ibanez guitars.

^ i dont get annoyed by it. I generally have to tell people what im doing is easy, not that its hard.

Why not show her something actually hard? Ask her for a tab and play her the song, do a song in her kind of style. Make it a learning experience and dont bitch on UG, there are tonnes of threads where you'd be really welcome.

that happened to me once. Our school once took us to an old age home where all these old people live. We were supposed to entertain those people. Someone brought a guitar along, and I thought why not play it to them. I played a piece in Indian classical music with my fingers all over the fret board. When I finished, one of the old ladies told me, " Can you play jingle-bells" or some other christmas carol which I cant recall. I told her that I couldn't and she told me about some sister Agnes who was very good at guitar and who could play that carol. She also advised me to learn to play the guitar.

Not that I am bitching or anything, but people who dont play the guitar or are not much into music obviously dont understand the delicate subtle nuances.Anyway it was a nice experience entertainging all those old people with my really really stupid jokes.

yeah, those people are everywhere. its also always funny when people get themost expensive guitar and the most expensive amp in a shop set up, turn it up so everyone on the block can hear it, and then then play 'come as you are' or 'nothing else matters'. and they think theyre hot sh!t. its just ridiculous.
