Couple of quick question I was hoping to get cleared up. I play guitar and am looking to get either a Alesis sr16 drum machine or a Casio Wk3700 in order to add drums to my music.

My question is, how do I go about connecting either of those to my computer so I can work with them in Cool Edit Pro? Would I be able to record real-time with them in Cool edit? Just curious what all I would need in order to do that, definatly a newb question :) Thanks guys.

Using the output jack of the drum machine connect your cable from it and buy a 1/8" adapter to plug your cable into then plug the adapter into your line in of your pc. Hope that helps.

Personally I would buy a plugin for a drum machine. This probably will be cheaper, and easier. http://www.linplug.com/ Linplug makes a nice drum machine.

Thanks alot, just wanted to make sure I could do it cheaply. I might just ask for the drum machine for xmas then get the wk3700 later. Id be nice to have other effects like violins and such (thinking of songs like Silverchairs Emotion Sickness). Can I record onto Cool Edit Pro in real-time with both of those?

Yes you can, if your drum machine has a guitar input plug that into the drum machine and follow the rest of my steps. The 1/8" adapter is like $5 at radioshack. Once everything is plugged into your line-in, open the program in which you use to record. Make sure your record settings are for Line in and jam away my friend.
