Yeah dude, that would totally creep me out. Have fun.

Thx. Everybody look out for "Lake Bodom History Repeats Itself" headlines.

Although I'm pretty sure the mosquitos and/or other camping, drunken-off-their-ass Finns will pose the greatest threat. :p:

I love them and saw them at The Unholy Alliance. I discovered them on Youtube with a cover of vivaldi which remains in my favorite songs, with Lake Bodom and CHildren of decadence, the only song I learned from them (but not the last... though it was and is still a hard, hard job)

Why?

Why do you think Alexi is better?

I mean, he's the "frontman"...that's why most people automatically seem to think he's Jesus or something.

Roope is as good if not better. Also, I stand by my thought that once you get to a certain level, there really is no "better and worse" only minor details. Roope can probably play anything Alexi can think of or play and vice-versa for Alexi. Kind of bugs me when ONE band member seems to get all the attention...

I mean, honestly, none of them except for maybe Janne are super god like. They just mesh well and make really kick ass music.

That's all you need...can't we just leave it at that?

How come Roope Latvala's sig guitar isn't on ESP's site, but is sold in Japan?

CodySG
04-11-2007, 05:56 AM
Because Japan gets all of the cool ESP guitars.

Mainly copyright issues. Plus the fact that they sell better overseas I think...not sure why.

It's also not just sold in japan, it's basically...everywhere but America :( because we have ghey Fender/Gibson/Jackson that bog all of the guitar designs and would sue da pantz0rz off of ESP is they let one of the cool guitars sell here...thus the ghey American Laiho models

I bought my Jackson here in America and it is one of the best guitars I've ever bought. That's probably because it's from their custom shop and they made it how I wanted it :D I do agree about the Fender/Gibson thing though.

As far as I know, he's never ever ever changed his rig...ever.

Lee Jackson GP-1000 preamp (Marshall Mod)

VHT Poweramp.

That's basically it lawl.

http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a18/CodySLSMG/laihosguitartone.jpg

Be warned though, I know a TON of people that thought the same thing, ran out and got a Lee Jackson, then it sucked. No gain. So they ran out to get the VHT to make it "instant uber" and it's better, but still not really enough.

It sounds GREAT in a mix, but stand alone it really won't have a ton of gain. If you have Chaos Ridden Years, the solo guitar/keyboard tone is what it will sound like...only not mids -12,000...

Ha ha. For the longest time that was my favorite Bodom album. In the Shadows was always a favorite. Then when I listened to Red Light in My Eyes Part I, I fell in love because of the intro ("What?! Bach's Invention 13?! Metal!!"). But of course, Part II stole my heart as well ("Mozart's 25!!! Whoa! Confutatis?! METAL!"). Lake Bodom is a classic, but I just don't like the solo. Touch Like an Angel of Death is also great.

But now, I'd say my most favorite Bodom album is definitely Hatebreeder. It has most of my favorite Bodom songs: Silent Night, Bodom Night, Hatebreeder, Bed of Razors, Towards Dead End, Black Widow, Children of Bodom, and Downfall.

And I just realize those were in order of track number too.

Alright, not really too important but I was listening to needled 24/7 and was wondering what effect he used to make his voice go like it does at the time of 57 seconds. Theres no way thats his actualy voice, just wondering if anyone new how they got that.
I believe it's vocal distortion. Norther uses it from time to time if I remember right.

Have you listened to anything off of Inearthed's first CD? Alexi went deep as **** with the vocals, to the point where you couldn't comprehend what the hell he was saying at all, even while reading the lyrics. He goes some-what deep at the very end of Lake Bodom. But nowhere near as deep as he did in Inearthed.

CaptainOfSmug

Wow, I must not be much of a fan to Bodom, I didn't even know there was a cd called inearthed. Was it before Something Wild?
It was the band that Alexi created before Children of Bodom. Inearthed ultimately became Children of Bodom because while they were Inearthed, they had a terrible record label. They told the label who signed Inearthed that they broke up, and then changed the name to Children of Bodom and joined a different label. Don't remember which label they joined. But as Inearthed, they released like...3 or 4 CDs. If you listen to them, you can hear a lot of Children of Bodom stuff. For example, the intro to Towards Dead End was originally on an acoustic guitar. The chorus to Sinergy's Beware the Heavens was also originally written by Inearthed. I can't remember what else they've reused, but there's quite a bit.

Ha ha. Yeah. In Hatebreeder, if you listen closely, you can hear he pronounces a lot of W sounds. In Bed of Razors, it sounds like he says "In duh bed of way-zuhs, we sweep togedduh, fow-wevuh."

04-24-2007, 09:49 PM
Actually, speaking of Children of Bodom reusing stuff, has anyone else noticed that Alexi uses damn near the same melody at the end of the solo to If You Want Peace, Prepare for War as in the pre-solo to Black Widow? I can't remember any other stuff they've reused. I'll be sure to listen to C.o.B. for the rest of the night to find other things.

Opeth.... I hate their vocalist. Personally, I like Alexi's voice. It fits the music. "Hate Me" is probably the best song off of Follow the Reaper. I really dont see how all the songs are the same. Have you llistened to Something Wild and Hatebreeder? If not, I suggest u do. Very versital music.

Children arnt sellouts yet... lets wait till the new album in '08 to decide what you think of that. People give the new album too much shit. After reading a good number of interviews, i have found out the following:

1. Alexi has moved to more Melo-Death style trying to get away from being labled a yngwie wannabe.
2. As the music went from neoclassical power metal/ black metal w/ harsh vocals to Melo-Death, the musical quality deteriorated. The old stuff is much more technical.
3. Alexi writes whatever comes naturally. He goes into isolation in Finland and just writes, alone. What he comes up with is what he comes up with, and he presents it to us.
4. After 2 (?) broken wrists and a broken sholder, hopefuly Alexi wont pull ne more retarded drunken antics untill the new album is out.
5. For the most part, AYDY was ok. There were a few good tracks, but not every one was close to par, not to the bodom that was when "Follow the Reaper" came out.
6. Please dont flame me too hard for all of this, but feel free to let me know where i went wrong.

Yeah, I was about to address that. I can play Bodom stuff, but singing at the same time.. Man, that's tough to learn. But, like Alexi said in an interview, about how difficult it is to learn sing and play at the same time in a different rhythm / time signature, you can't really call yourself a musician if you can't pull it off. Not that _I_ can.. Guess I'm not a real musician :D

on something wild he really did sound ALOT like malmsteem
Umm...That's probably because of the massive classical influence. What sucks, IMO, is that whenever a guitar player emerges and is heavily influenced by Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, etc. he's instantly labeled as an Yngwie clone.
']Does anyone know where I could buy some children of bodom tab books?

I highly doubt you'll find tab books by C.o.B. I suggest learning by ear. Helps your ears interpret harmonic intervals.

well you can't really blame people for calling him a malmsteem clone. yngwie is most known for his neo-classical style. if you say the word "neo-classical" Yngwie is probably the first guitarist a normal person would think of.

i personally love his pentatonic solos a whole much more than his harmonic minor ones because the pentatonics deliver a more aggressive sound than the harmonic minor scale.

Ha, big fan of Are You Dead Yet? I see.
...It's no Hatebreeder. I mean, I like the energy of the album. I really liked Trashed, Lost, & Strungout when the EP came out. Knuckleduster wasn't too great...But I had really high hopes for Are You Dead Yet? I was kinda let down...I don't really have high hopes for this new Bodom album that's coming out this year. I mean, according to Janne himself, there's not going to be as much keyboard melodies...

but really we should have no problem with it...there's still heaps of awesome keyboard-driven songs we can listen to, and i'm confident enough with alexi's songwriting to say that new bodom will still be better than most bands.

can't expect a band to stay the same all throughout their career...lets just hope they don't degrade as much as metallica did :( i miss their thrash stuff

Waterboy799
05-03-2007, 12:21 AM
i think they should stick to their usual route, but if they do somehow create something new and good, then god speed to them. but i would rather not risk it, honestly i don't think any one in Bodom is intelligent enough to take the band into a completely new direction.

Eh...True...But I kinda like how Iron Maiden and Stratovarius are pretty much the same since they started...

Also, about Janne's Keyboards...I love the melodies, just don't like the patches...You guys ever listen to any C.o.B. side projects? I can't remember some of them - like the punk band Alexi is in - but they're great. For those who don't know, Alexi was actually in Impaled Nazarene for a while.

Anyone ever hear of Janne's band Warmen? Listen to Unknown Soldier, then listen to Stratovarius's Know the Difference. I think you'll see who influenced Janne a lot...

krazylobster

The Black Salts

Same here. Follow the Reaper and Hatecrew are my favourites, but I'd have to say Follow has better melodies. You really get into the whole Northern feel of it.

I think the reason why a lot of people bash them is because they're generally pretty popular in the world of metal. A lot of people like metal because it's more underground and not tolerated by non-metal fans, so liking something everyone else cringes at is ''cool''. COB is actually pretty easy to get into, and even people who don't like metal can say, ''hey, that sounds pretty good'', so they lose some respect from fans in that. Also, after peaking in quality with Follow the Reaper a lot of fans think that the heavy riffing from hatecrew and are you dead yet are just downhill albums. I wouldn't say hatecrew is quite downhill, just different.

I think it's just important to remember that despite all that, they're still a great metal band.

Hmmm SW and hatebreeder are the best albums IMO. but i like sixpounder the best as a song thou. at Tuska that is sweet. btw does henkka have his 5 strings lowest string tuned to C?

Vittu0666
05-06-2007, 08:53 PM
I'd have to say that my favorite Bodom album is definitely Hatebreeder.

I think Sixpounder is a good song, I just don't like the first solo. The second solo is much more interesting, but I kinda don't like how it's played exactly the same, just moved up by half steps. All in all, it's still a good song.

Okay, my mom wants to buy me a guitar ("graduation from homeschooling" present), and I was thinking about the LTD Alexi-600 (white, of course). But, I was wanting to know if the Japanese Edwards models are better, because if they are, and I can find one on eBay (I've seen a few) or just a little more than the LTD. Then of course, there's the Edwards RV (with 2 pickups). What do you all think would be the better buy?

I love the fact that Laiho was about my age when that album was recorded, and hes a ****ing tank. Being able to sing and play the way he does at the same time. Incredible. I love the elements on that cd, such as the medieval sounding keyboards at times, and the random blast beats.

I've heard really, really, REALLY bad thing about the RR24....I've yet to play one, but from EVERYONE that is a serious guitarist and has played top quallity stuff it blows.

Either way, the Edwards would be the way to go man. Edwards is just the Jap LTD only better, plus it looks like the real deal.

Personally though, I kind of like the USA Alexi...either way, out of those, the Edwards.

You not gunna get one because of the inlay material? lol, seems strange to me but whatever you want dude

If you can find one there is the limated edition rr24 that is black with yellow bevels, has white headstock and fretboard binding, and, witch seems important to you, mother of pearl inlays.

Make sure you can get a chance to play the guitars, or atleast one of them before you order one

Really? Where have you looked? I guess I'm not looking as hard, because I've only seen good reviews. My local music store has the yellow beveled version, and wow. It's pretty much amazing. I like the price...It's about $800 cheaper than the RR1. But then again, I haven't played an RR1, so I don't know the quality.

I like the USA Alexi, too, but I kinda want 2 pickups. Also, if the Edwards RV is better, then I'd rather get it (for the same price XD)

So... I guess it's like:

Jap ESP > Dean
Edwards > ESP
And LTD is pretty much there if you don't wanna import an Edwards or can't afford an ESP?
