Bodom will become one the greatest bands around. Mark my words. I know they have been around for quite a while but have only really become well known since 'Are You Dead Yet?'. Thats why I find it kinda funny when SOME people rip this album off because this band was realitively unknown to most before it. Ive been a fan for a while now and I love all their stuff.
And the keyboardist is as brilliant as Alexi is on guitar. He adds something special to the band. People only rip him off because keyboards are seen as the stereotypical instrument for a hairmetal. Come on lets be a little more broadminded. Keyboards can brilliant and this is certainly the case when it relates to CoB.

I disagree that COB are too original, but writing anything like their's would be one bitch of a task.

CoB are to origional to write music like them, Id rather just play covers.
Actually, I've written a couple of CoB style riffs. Just take a look at the tabs of thiers that you can find, and figure out exactly what they do with each chord, pedal point(the "chug"), lead fill, solo, and keyboard part. Then, try to mimic it by incorporating ideas of your own.
And even if they were "too original", it would actually be better. The more original a band, the easier it is to cop thier style IMO.
SynGates7X
08-10-2007, 11:31 AM
Well then just write stuff anyway, if they are that big of an influence on you then they will make it in there somewhere. And even if they don't, you have a better chance of getting noticed when you are writing original stuff than you have when you are in a cover band.

Are you serious?
I've writen stuff before that sounds EXACTLY like CoB. Really not that hard, perhaps getting a whole band to make something that sounds similar might be a task, but the guitar parts are usually pretty simple.
Not easy to play, just easy to follow along and realize what's they're doing.
Then you just figure out what scales are used and boom, instant CoB forumula.

And on the subject of writing like CoB: I had a song idea earlier today after making that post. I may tab it out pretty soon. I'ts based on something I've already written, and it's gonna be somewhat reminiscent of "Every Time I Die" and "In Your Face", with a little of my own flare thrown in.

Ask your local guitar store if they have one with them in a guitar. They might...

I feel the same... One thing that gets me mad is that you can't really TRY pickups! :(
It's not like an amp or a guitar... Unless they've got it on a guitar in the shop, which is most unlikely to happen!
I'm probably putting some EMG81/85 combo in my Ibanez RG321MH soon... good choice or not?? :)
CodySG

SWoot! T-Bear hugz!
I like EMG's. I have them in my Eyebanzee, sounds good to me :)
Should have a good tube amp to go with it though, else you probably won't be getting the max amount of tone from them. Also, do the 18 volt mod...makes them sound teh secks.
And, honestly, check into the Blackouts...they might be better for you. Like I said, everywhere I look they are getting great reviews.
SynGates7X
08-14-2007, 04:51 PM
You might as well just get them. I'll probably end up doing it at some point, I don't see the harm in it.
And to the guy getting the EMG's, I have an 81 and an 85, but I have the 85 in the bridge and the 81 upside down in the neck. I think they are better that way, try it out if you ever feel the need. It's not hard to change them with the quick connect system that EMG uses.

ok, since this is supposed to be about COB...they are sick. It is rare these days to see the lead singer play semi-lead/lead guitar. Though the words are obscure and most of the time inaudible, the sence they have for musical melody and deep tonality more than compinsates. They truely are deserving of another chance on here.

Yeah, that sound was the ****, man! Although it lacked a bit of bass.. or that could simply be the lack of bass guitar in the clip. I'm sure it was probably the recording that robbed it of bass response though.

Yea Roope now uses ESP star style guitars, but he stiil uses his old Jacksons from time to time
Does anyone know a reliable shop that sell Edwards Scythes to the UK? I have a new job and I'm saveing up for my second guitar i'll be using in my band. I'm either going to buy the Scythe or spend save up some more cash and get the ESP RV (now that I have a job at argos now :D)

Not sure. I know most websites will ship them to you though.
Depends on how badly you want a Scythe. The Edwards are amazing guitars, and you could get about three of them compared to the Scythe RV. Also, the Scythe would probably take you like a year to save up for...

I finally nailed Bed of Razors on guitar. Moderately challenging.
Just wondering, which song(s) should I learn how to play next? Preferably something only a bit harder than Bed of Razors. I can handle a bit of shredding.

^ Downfall's pretty easy I could say... if you take the time to learn the solo correctly, the rest of the song is a piece of cake! :D

I totally love Bodom, one of my favorite metal bands ever, amazing solos, Alexi's voice fits just great (except something wild - the vocals there are weird :P), great keyboards, a great and addictive band in short...
I'd say that Hatebreeder and Hate Crew Deathroll are their best albums, Follow the Reaper is good too, but it sounds like a more mature extension of Hatebreeder. - has great songs anyway (Everytime I Die, Kissing the Shadows...)
@ the guy who wants to learn more bodom songs... learn Kissing the Shadows..:P

KtS is a cool song, but some of the solos might be tough to get down.
It's my first Bodom song, but it'll take some time.

So has anyone heard about the new Alexi Laiho Signature Pre-Amp Booster that supposed to come out in September? Supposedly it's going to be made by ESP and distributed by a Finnish company, can't remember the name.
