Yeah from what I heard in those songs, it would be pretty hard to find songs as good or, better even. If I can add tho, I'm really maniac about the heavyness, but as long as it's melodic. Such as, a riff that stays in your head for days(for example, the lead intro in Lake Bodom).

EDIT: I have this song too called Anathema Angelica(probly spelled ANTHEMA Angelica in reality), and it's a slow song. I doubt this is from CoB, as the singer's voice sounds different, and I couldn't find any tabs for it. Anyone knows if it's really from CoB, and if it's not, what band is it from?

My friend Gabe loves Bodom, but is getting burnt out on them, and he said at one point that if Bodom were to play at a local place around here they'd probably get shot in the face because of thier guitar tone. We have teh ub3r muddy droptuned 7-string, 3-minute-breakdown deathcore scene around here.

Don't get me wrong, I like some of the bands in the scene (ASP), but from what I've heard around here everyone likes the drop-b through a Recto tone. Aaand to be fair, the only local deathcore band I saw down here wasn't on thier game that night....

Plus since Alexi/Roope's tone is so mid heavy that could also lead to the psuedo lack of distortion.

Either way, they use plenty for the "Bodom" tone, it's there...just a different kind of gain.

Sure their tone has a lack of distortion, but it sort of harks back to AC/DC in a good way. It makes the sound really tight, and clean. If they were to use more distortion, the rhythm and melody would be lost. This is pretty evident in songs like Living Deadbeat.

I: Do you think of yourself more as a songwriter or a guitarist?
A: Maybe I think of myself more as a guitarist, but on the other hand I also think of myself as a songwriter because, well that's the thing I do. Like I do write everything for Bodom but like I said, also for the other bands. I think of myself as a songwriter but I want that people think of me more as a guitarist rather than some pen guy, I'm not a composer after all. Let's say... from the last summer to this point I have practiced more than well... ever. Sometimes I go like "Oh damn, I couldn't have ever played this like a year ago". If I compare my playing skills from like our first record, it doesn't have anything to do with what I played there, I couldn't have played the solos I do now for example.


I:Your goals as a guitarist?
A: Improve my picking technique and of course keep everything as clean as possible, like I know what I can do and I know my speed limit and so on. I never try to play something I know I can't. For example let's say that there's some guitarist who got some idea, but his technique isn't quite as good. I think it's pretty traditional thing in my opinion, even for me, like when I had played for two or three years I tried to play everything as fast as possible and it sounded well... like shit. I didn't realize back then that if I had played something slower stuff or something that I actually could play I would sound a lot better. Well itt's of course a phase that you must go through.


I: What would happen if Alexi had to stop playing guitar?
A: Suicide.
I: Ouch... arguments for that?
A: Well I really couldn't live without music or guitar playing and that's the truth. Like if I lost my both hands or something and if I got shitloads of money or whatever, I still couldn't live because it's just... I dunno, It's just something I want to do and I don't want to do anything else. And I couldn't ever think something else that I'd want to do as much as playing guitar. So there's not really any other choice than the gallows.


I: How lonely thing has the guitar playing become?
A: I wouldn't call myself a hermit, but there's of course that if you got the desire to play guitar you have to leave quite a lot of things behind when you practice a lot and you start to know the guitar after some years. But it's true in my opinion that you kinda create a personal relationship with the guitar like that if I feel like everything in my life has gone straight to hell, there's always the guitar which won't ever hurt or do anything bad for me. I've slept with guitar many times and so on, caress the guitar under the sheets.


I: What things Alexi has had to leave behind for the sake of guitar?
A: Well they're mostly social things. Not only because of guitar but also because of the band I've had to leave friends and stuff like that. But for the sake of guitar... well for many times I've felt like going somewhere or doing something different, but then got to know that there's recording session in a few days or something. Small things like that, but sometimes they make me quite fucking pissed off too, but it's worth it anyway.


I: 21-years old Laiho has already influenced many future guitar heroes' playing style. How does it feel?
A: I have got a couple of situations like that and it does feel pretty unbelievable. Because I can think of myself as someone who takes influence, not as someone who gives influence and that situation feels unbelievable as hell. But on the other hand comments like those, they make it worth it, like then I know that I havn't done this for nothing, like I have accomplished at least something. Of course it feels good but I still can't comprehend that someone would take influence from me.


I: What is your all time dream/goal as a player?
A: If we talk about a dream that will never happen, then it would be to get to play in Ozzy Osbourne's band.

Well, almost done with Bed of Razors, unbeleivable, my gf actually asked me to learn that song, that made it DOUBLE the worthwhile. Anyway, I'm thinking of learning Silent Night, Bodom Night next, cuz Alexi is as l337 as that. Bed of Way-zowz is pretty much an essential Bodom song. Even though the tempo is about 180, Needled 24/7 is pretty easy as well. I definitely recommend Black Widow too.

Actually, I like MCR.

I think they're one of the only "scene, emo" bands that I actually like, because I think that they really enjoy what they do. They just have so much energy and gel as a band, the singer has a crap load of charisma and the guitarist is actually pretty good.

Yeah, I have kind of different places for my influences. I have my guitar playing influences, vocal influences, and then just all around musician influences, then personal influences.

All melded together to create...

To be honest, Alexi hasn't really influenced my playing that much. Whenever I improv, my bandmates usually say "Whoa...That sounds like something Randy would play." I guess I learned so much of his stuff that I actually bring a part of it into my playing. I'm also heavily influenced by Galder from Old Man's Child/Dimmu Borgir, as well as Death, and Marty Friedman. It's all about the phrasing, not the speed ;).
