^ That is true. Alexi said when he was younger all he wanted to do was be a shredder, but Bodom killing their neoclassical sound (AYDY, Bloodrunk) really ended my fandom. I still love the hell out of everything before Hatecrew Deathroll.

I love their laterstuff, even though It's differant. Sometimes I'll wake and think "hatebreeder" and i'll listen to that album none stop. And sometimes I'll think "Hatecrew deathroll" and I'll listen to that album all day.
And am I the only one that thinks that Follow the reaper is hugeley differant to hatebreeder? It's like the same size differance between HCDR and AYDY

I like the keyboard solos in Follow the Reaper more, and yea, it is different than Hatebreeder, because they were starting to get more groove and thrash in their music, but it still show some strong similarities, I like FTR the most, I just feel like they had their sound down to a pinpoint at that time.

You'll probably be able to get it in more than one color :p:
Especially since he usually plays a black one himself.
And personally, as much as I like the neoclassical themes of the earlier albums, it was nice to see Alexi move on from emulating someone else and do his own thing. If he feels it in him, I'm sure we'll hear a return to the older sound, but probably even better than it was then.
If not, then it was never meant to.

I like The Roope guitar, the colour is quite nice, I prefer black guitars but it's nice to see some differance.
I'm kinda confused though because it's nothing like any of his guitars. Differant pickup, inlays ext. Maybie it's based on a new ESP custom that he's getting

Me too. To me Something Wild is actually a little difficult to listen to because of the heavy neoclassical influence. Plus, once HCDR came out, that's when COB became "catchy", and easy to listen to.
EDIT: the only thing in AYDY that gets on my nerves are the lyrics, some are just overly annoying, cheesy, or immature.

Then I bought the other stuff and now there just my favourite band, and they have been since I heared a few of their songs. And it probly sounds abit pretentious and obvious but Alexi Laiho really is my idol. Just the way he writes music with awsome memorable riffs, complex melodies, wierd song structures, heavy and lyrics that and all gay and over emotional, but also not just brutal and gory for the sake of it. I mean would you belive that the lyrics for kissing the shadows were improvised?
Rant over...(...for now)

I remember the first COB song I heard was needled 24/7. The first 2 times I heard it I really hated it, then the 3rd time I suddenly really got into it... how does that work?
As for fave albums, I have to nominate Tokyo warhearts for being one of the best live albums in the metal genre. And as a pianist as well as a guitarist I love the keyboards. I'd much rather have keyboard wankery than twice as much guitar wankery. Listen to the little keyboard solo (if you can call it that) near the end of 'Towards Dead End'! But the lyrics are among the worst I have ever come across in any genre of music...

I know, I rarely wear anything besides a band shirt. When I tried telling him it was a way of supporting the band he called me a 'poser fag'...he had a fucking manga haircut for fuck's sake!

I can't remember what my first Bodom song was. Probably Lake Bodom.
I believe that was my first song as well.
I remember the first COB song I heard was needled 24/7. The first 2 times I heard it I really hated it, then the 3rd time I suddenly really got into it... how does that work?
You may have been in a good mood while listening to the song, and therefore your brain equated COB with good feelings.
I dunno.
That's how my friend became a 50 cent addict.

You know,
I watched an interview with Alexi
and something he said struck me as particularly interesting.
It took place I think after HCDR but before AYDY, and they said that he was taking a departure from the neo-classical into more of a thrash-metal style, and they asked why.
Alexi basically said that he just goes with what feels right, and it wasn't so much of a conscious decision so much as going with instinctual guidance of what is best. He said that it might even come back, or might never.
The whole thing just made me feel like the next CoB album will be something totally different.

Bed of Razors is fairly easy.
So is In Your Face
Needled 24/7 is easy too.
Most of their solos have easy parts, and then some tricky parts, myself I can play Bodom After Midnight, Bed of Razors, In Your Face, Living Dead Beat, Sixpounder, Follow the Reaper, and Needled 24/7...
However I haven't tried any other songs to test their difficulty.

I prefer using just E or D standard. Using any drop tuning just screws up my scales and mode patterns, my interval memory, etc.

I'm the same way! I'm prolly gonna end up with my Alexi model in Drop C, a V-500 probably in standard (I might get another guitar for that though like an Ibanez JS1000 and put the V in Db), a Schecter Jeff Loomis in Bb, and Maybe the BC Rich Chuck Schuldiner tribute in D.

You gotta snap 'em up when you can find them. It's easy enough to find blank black ones, but ones with some kinda cool design are harder. I've got one with a Japanese logo on it that I have NO idea what it says, which I found in some random goth shop, and a skinny fit Metallica shirt which is virtually sleeveless. I'm thinking I might get a black denim shirt and hack the sleeves off that, seeing as that won't look too bad if it's a tad scruffy.

Don't mind the Slayer one, but GnR and Bullet For My Valentine? Nah I'll pass :p: Corpse Clothing is a really good site.
Aye man, I saw that Metallica one and thought it looked alright.

It's good in terms of stock, but they have to order some stuff in from the US, so it can take ages. I ordered my friend a present from there, in what I thought was plenty time for his birthday in late November. I ended up, rather sheepishly, giving it to him in early February...

Nice one Valdean. I have the black COBHC hoody but it's quite thin, yours looks thicker/warmer.

I really want the shirt Alexi has that says "Creature of the Night"
A "wildchild" one would be pretty cool too, I noticed he has at least two different ones.
I use E or D Standard as well. I've come to realize that it's all about the phrasing, not what scales or tuning you use that makes you brutal.

Dunno if this has been said yet, but the entire album is on their myspace right now. I've listened to most of it already and right now my favorite is "Done With Everything, Die For Nothing".
It seems like a really short album though.
But I like it.

That's one of my favorites too, along with Tie My Rope. I love the solo.
It doesn't seem much shorter than most of their albums, really. It's a little over 40 minutes, like most. Follow the Reaper is the longest at about 50.

Oh, well I'm sure it only seem shorter because skipped the already released songs.
Haha, but yeah I really like the chorus of Done With Everything...
And my other favorite would be Roadkill Morning, just an overall awesome song.

If anyone has the HCDR booklet, I want one of those "Smock crack and worship Satan" shirts that Alexi is wearing. I could use it to make a few people a little bit agitated. :D
I'm posting from school right now...So far I've walked up to the main disciplinary attendant and the principal and they haven't said anything. I've just gotten weird looks from teachers staring at my shirt's picture :p:
Here's the link to the shirt I'm wearing right now, for those of you who were wondering.

Haha, I was heading out the door to go get a carry out at about half one, (I know, bit early to be drinking but meh) and what pulls up? A delivery van! My ****ing RR24 arrived as I was leaving. I'm now at my mates drinking and I haven't even seen it, it's in it's box on my bed! :haha

I hate playing guitar drunk. My fingers refuse to shred, it's horrible.
I'm amazed you still went out though, if I got a guitar like that delivered all plans would be instantly off :p

I need a good CoB shirt, hah.
But yeah, I'm definitely more sloppy in my playing when I'm drunk or high, but at the same time it seems to help me clear my mind and just play a bit more creatively.

I sometimes get home when i'm abit tipsy and play guitar. But when I'm wasted i don't dare touch my guitar, my hands seem greasy when I'm wasted.
When high I'd sometimes pickup my guitar, but my reactions wern't great, so I couldn't really shred

Yeah, I was surprised too. They're different though. When I'm drunk I tend to play blues-driven metal by default.
When high, it's more prog.

I'm abit of a coward. So If I'm playing up on stage I have a couple of shots to losen up abit. Usually Jager
Jager seems to be the best. For some reason even though I'm definatly not a heavyweight, large amounts of jager don't seem to affect me asmuch as it does to other people. I need an awful lot to get wated off it, but then I'm gone. Also jager is better than beer before going up on stage because it doesn't fill you and make you feel dead stuffy on stage.
So thats what I advise, just have a few shots of jager before going up on stage. So now you know :p:
