It's awesome, even if Alexi is up on morphine from breaking his foot during the last show before that.
The documentary on CoB that's on it is also amazing.

The documentary confuses me, I can't tell when people are actually in the background or not. Like when Alexi Laiho takes food off of the grill I think..something just seems off about it.

Ahh right I know what you mean, i think.
You mean like when Alexi is playing babminton in the background but it's like all in slo motion with no sound, and jaska is at the same speed. Maybie they edited in Alexi later.
Eitherway, I love the documentary, and the live show. It's one of my favourite DVD's of all time

Real lessons vs DVDs arent really comparable...theres no substitute for a private lesson and getting live feedback from a pro. Not to say DVDs arent interesting and sometimes beneficial to watch. Ill likely be buying one or both.
But lessons are certainly a worthy investment if your teacher knows what the hell hes talking about.
CodySG
04-11-2008, 06:34 AM
You have to realize, that with DVD's, they're basically being payed to cram as much stuff as possible into this thing. Not really explaining much, and just kind of showing you what to play.
With lessons, if you don't get something you can ask questions until you do. Having problems playing something, you can find out why and probably how to make it better.
DVD's are fine and all, but yeah...nothing is better than real life lessons with a great teacher.

Buy a DVD and you don't understand what the guy says, you are out of luck. Take a lesson and you can ask who the teacher right there. Having someone right in front of you that you can interact with beats something that's pre-recorded.

The first DVD is ok, it's the only one I've watched so far, it's just him telling you how to play different pieces of his songs. He did show what chords he uses frequently though, so that was cool. It teaches a couple of techniques also..

Honestly...
I love the song to death, and it has a lot of personal meaning to me, but I hate it when people hype it so much.
The solos are cool and all, but only together...
There are a lot better ones when you break them apart and compare them. Then again, I think most people just hear a bunch of solos and automatically rank the song stupid high.
I really love the song, and it probably is one of my all time favorites, but the solos really aren't the main or even second reason.

And it seems recently that the Yngwie is dissapearing and the Zakk is becomeing more prominent

Vibrato is a bit different on violin. But I suppose getting any sort of instrumental exposure at a young age would stimulate the musical part of your brain and make other instruments easier to learn.

I thought the neo-classical influence on Hatebreeder became a little obnoxious after awhile. Yes, the older neoclassical influences on SW and Hatebreeder, while cool sometimes, get very repetitive and....pardon my french, but "cheesy".
To me Follow the Reaper achieved a happy medium of badassness and guitar mastery.
The new albums have a much more straightforward heavy metal style, but still remains very catchy and guitar crazy, not to mention the producton is much more slick.

What's the easiest CoB song to learn?
I've heard that Downfall, Evrrytime I Die, and Angels Don't Kill are some of the easiest.
I REALLY wanna learn, can some point me in the right direction?
are you dead yet? isnt that hard. I had been playing a year when I learned that song(roopes part). Alexi's solos kinda hard for me though.

Sixpounder

I think the riffs in AYDY are crazy, in the earlier stuff it's usually more straight forward riffs in my opinion, but with crazy melodies over alot of the parts. I think AYDY's riffs are really unconventional compared to most popular modern metal bands, blooddrunk sounds even crazyer riff wise
I just got the new guitarworld and they have Lake Bodom tabs! ^_^

Yeah some of the picking technique sounds incredible, and looking at all the tabs of the album reinforced this. One of my favorite parts of the album is the non orthodox rhythms and start/stops, as well as the interesting harmonies between the guitars. It's amazing how much this album grew on me from first listen.

Now that I'm in drop C though, I've been hitting up some TTEOTD and other "-core" stuff...I got'sta' get my grind on.
Main reason too, is I haven't really been writing a lot of original stuff as of late...I've been working on a screen play and novelish type writings, that's taken up a lot of my creative juices :haha
Been tinkering with some stuff though...if only I could get some decent recording equipment...

And how does the FR change the sound?
Well I don't know :p: , that was kind of dumb to say, It doesn't really change the sound as much as it makes me play the guitar differently? I guess.
I don't know, for example, when I palm mute on a guitar with a floyd it feels so much more awkward than with a regular bridge, and when I did some leads and stuff the strings felt different than on my guitar with a regular bridge....
Than again It might have just been my guitar and my intense focus to minute details...

When it comes to Kim Goss, I think you have to see it this way...
During the time in his life where they got together, was when Alexi was at his worst in terms of emotional and mental health. So I'm sure that there aren't many women (for good reason, in all honesty) that wouldn't or couldn't deal with someone like that. She however was there for him and gave him support and love. Since then he's obviously gotten much better, as he's said himself, and his life has changed.
They're still good friends, they just aren't in the same kind of relationship. And no one besides them and maybe some close friends really know the whole story anyway.
Of course, that's all personal issues outside of the music, but these are real people, and it's not just about bagging the hottest chick you can.

I saw em last night, Jesus Christ they were the most amazing live band ever, it was so stupid though because they had to stop their set for like 15 minutes because the front barricade broke, so that cut down like 3 of their songs, towards the end when people started throwing anything they could get, I thought their was gonna be a riot but then bodom came back on and owned with angels don't kill, it was the most badass live show I've ever seen and alexi was spot on.
Yeah it was so amazing to finally watch him play. At least there set didnt get cut.

Sounds awesome man. Gigantour?yes dude, it was awesome, but I hurt my back real bad during jfac because I was crowd surfing And got dropped straight on my back, it winded me and I hit my head real hard(btw the Louisville venue has concrete flloors) so I was seeing two of everything and I was walking through the pit and some faggot emo ninja punched me in the mouth while he was practicing karate, so needless to my jfac experiance was ruined, but its ok cob and in flames and megadeth made me feel better

Woah, Randy Blythe (of LoG) apparently became really good friends with the band when they toured together. He apparently even became a part of the Hate Crew and has "COBHC" tatooed to the side of his left forearm.
And in this video he does In Your Face with them, live

I have a LoG dvd (lol) and there is a part where the guitarist of LoG and Alexi are having a good old drunken conversation. It was quite funny.

Killadelphia? I'm pretty sure that was Willy Adler and Roope Latvala, not Alexi.

Oh man, I remember that DVD. That was a hilarious DVD. I loved the part when Roope starts talking about gambling and Asian women.

-sigh-
I've given my friend four albums so far (gonna get him AYDY? and Follow the Reaper soon) and he likes Blooddrunk the most :(
He's kind of an idiot though.....he said Hatebreeder and Something Wild were too deathy for him.......then I told him those were the most neoclassically influenced of the albums, and he's like "okay, then that". What an idiot.

why listen to punk when the music uses all 5th chords and the singers sound like girls, when you can listen to bodom and the music is insane but the singer looks like a girl. lol

P1ayingW1thF1re, maybie your friend is used to more 'tame' music. If he listens to the later stuff for abit and then tries the earlier stuff again he'll probly really like it.
I know alot of people who found the earlier stuff hard to swallow but now they love it

...This is the sad reality of how punk has come to be known to most kids these days.
Bands like the Casualties, NOFX, and Rancid... that's punk. Not to mention a ton of bands most people haven't even heard of anymore.
Soooooooooo

I love Tie My Rope's solo the most, I think.

I do not listen to punk music, so I don't claim to be any expert, but if that's not what they are then please correct me.
The purpose of my statement was to show that punk is NOT the new wave of bands like... say... MCR, Simple Plan, MXPX, Good Charlotte, etc. that a lot of kids seem to think.
On a CoB-related note,
I know Roope has two solos on Blooddrunk, but I'm not sure which ones they are.
