haha, I merely meant a vocalist that doesn't play an instrument. In that recent interview with Alexi he displayed a distaste for writing lyrics calling it, "A painful process". I think that comes through a lot because I always thought the vocals were the weakest part of COB. Just a thought, not necessarily a deal breaker but it is an area that could be improved.

No, I see what you're saying. It's hard hold two spots in a band at once. Then a person has to concentrate on two different things simultaneously, and writing parts for both can be difficult. I would much rather make my guitar playing as best as it can be and let someone else make their vocals the best they can be than be half-assed at both.

Well Alexi's (imo) great and guitar and vocals....but you know what I mean.

It does kind of "impair" live performance as well because it's harder to jump around and get the crowd riled up if you're playing guitar at the same time.

hey um hardly anyone will prolly recognize me here since i'm usually in GG&A, but i just started looking into CoB to put on my mp3 player. i'm mostly a hard rock/heavy metal/classic rock listener, but often i need that over the edge sound that is fast paced but still very artistic. and so i decided to look into them. they seem to be exactly what i want to get but i would like recommendations for songs to start with. so far i've downloaded 'Are you dead yet' and 'living dead beat.' so far i'm lovin' this stuff, excellent headbangin' music and good to get me pumped for runnin' and weightlifting.

so what else would you recommend? not really wanting to look into another band yet, would rather build up on this one until i get a lotta their stuff memorized and later move onto another band.

i prolly sound really akward or seem like the nerd who just came over to eat lunch w/ the cool kids....but like i said....my main listening is with the Guns and AC/DC so i think yall can understand.

Although, Bodom is REALLY hard to burn out on, and I can't think of another band like them who isn't a ripoff (Wintersun, anybody?).
I'd hardly call Wintersun a ripoff. Kalmah is a ripoff. Wintersun is just a good melodic death metal band.

That said, I'm almost tempted to get a Krank amp head. I love Alexi's tone on the Guitar Heroes album (he used a 100w Krankenstein head) and Brenden Small's tone on Dethklok (he used the Revolution).

A long time ago when I first heard about oth bands, I would always see both of them being talked about at teh same time on this thread, and I knew one of them was supposed too be a Bodom ripoff (I've since heard Wintersun, not Kalmah, but if they sound like Bodom then HUZZAH!) and so I just didn't remember which one. I do remember liking Wintersun though....

Anywho, Bodom rules, just listened to Blooddrunk like, twice, and I love it more each tme I hear it :)

Wintersun only has 1 album so that kinda narrows it down for you there, and Kalmah has 5, all of them are good, try Swamplord or the Black Waltz.

Honestly, you might check into the Rev. Jr. I have one and it's pretty nice. Not as nice as the big brothers, but at only like 800 bucks for a mini stack, not that bad.

Out of all of the Melodic Death Metal bands out, I think the one that sounds the most like Bodom is Norther.

As far as I'm aware he's been experimenting with his tone alot recently trying out differant pups and amps. I think he's sticking with the Kerry King Marshall at the moment though. As far as I'm aware he recorded most if not all of the stuff on Blooddrunk with it

Roope's star guitars are ugly...sorry, butr they are. They're so bland. Star guitars need to be spikier to look nice, like a Dean Razorback or my own baby Jackson Warrior. Roope's ESP just fails to excite me aesthetically at all.

And yeah, that was disappointing. I really wish it had been in black (gloss or not). I would have bought it if it were. His real ESP star is gorgeous, in my opinion.

They have some ridiculous Bodom-love, there. But they also have the staunch elitists who have a hate for anything after Follow the Reaper that borders on blind fanaticism. As well as a misguided belief that Something Wild is the best album ever recorded. Ever.

I find it funny that those people claim Bodom isn't original anymore, and weren't since Follow the Reaper. And yet with SW and Hatebreeder, Alexi was completely drawing from neoclassical artists. In all honesty, whether you like the sound or not, HCDR is the most original and unique Bodom album.

You can always get the Edwards (from ishibashi music) it's still really nice. Better than any LTD, and just as good as most ESP's. Their luthiers are all from the ESP custom shop.

I think the Edwards one is only between 1100 and 1300 USD.

And yeah, I know the Edwards are really great guitars, but I just really want the cream of the crop, top of the line CS one...and I know that even if I get the Edwards, I'd still want the ESP CS too...and I'd be 1500 less towards my way of getting it.

I'm just going to pinch my pennies and wait it out...

Hopefully by the end of the year it will be mine. Five grand is a lot of money, but ****...be worth it in my opinion...

I just know that five grand is a lot of money, especially for a guitar. Is it worth? As long as you're truly happy with the guitar you get, and have no regrets, it always is. Whether it's with the Edwards, or the ESP. You can't go wrong either way.

It's probably only because it's one show, at the home of Testament, and a part of CoB's headlining tour.

It's not like they're opening for CoB on a regular basis, but just as a guest highlight to that one show.

Even worse... Vader opened for Kataklysm, Black Dahlia Murder AND that shitty core band Suicide Silence. It was the most disrespectful line-up order I have ever seen. Vader should never have open for anyone, they are far too legendary.
