They are keyboardist rules? o.o Uhm, go over your grammar and spelling.

Saw them last night. Setlist was something like follows:
Silent Night, Bodom Night
Follow The Reaper
Hate Me
Hellhounds On My Trail
Living Dead Beat
Bodom Beach Terror
In Your Face
Blooddrunk
Angels Don't Kill
Downfall
Pretty good set, much better than Gigantour last year, but there were still so many songs I wish they'd played. Kissing The Shadows, Bed Of Razors, Bodom After Midnight, Lake Bodom, Needled 24/7. But they did play Bodom Beach Terror, and that was amazing.

04-15-2009, 12:33 AM
Sadly, I don't think they'll ever play Kissing the Shadows again. I think it's because the solo is a bitch to play live as well as a few other parts of the song.

The solo isn't really hard at all...it's just there is a lot to play, but either way...if you can't play your songs live, you probably need to rethink about being in a band.

Children Of Bodom!! Well, one of my favorite bands. They've been my favorite band for about 3 years now. I always seem to enjoy listening to them. Alexi Laiho is amazing on the guitar i'd have to say. Also another favorite. His vocals are amazing and yeah the whole band is great. I used to listen to them in school and people would ask what kind of metal and **** like that lol. Most of them found them different. but thats because they weren't use to listening to that. aside from their peice of **** rap. Hate breeder is one of my favorite albums, it was the first album I heard and I just fell in love with it. This band is just great. I can listen to them alot, now the only goal I want to master is to be able to play some COB on guitar. Anywayz, BODOM!!!!
durhamdynamo
04-17-2009, 10:11 PM
Never really got that into Something Wild, even though I love Lake Bodom I just felt that a lot of the songs never really got anywhere and seemed to drone towards the end, while I absolutely detest Alexi's vocals on this.
Hatebreeder was a great album, love Warheart, SNBN, Towards Dead End, Bed of Razors and especially Downfall. Alexi's vocals had improved massively for this album. I really, really, really love the first solo in Downfall. It's orgasmic :D
Follow the Reaper was generally a good album, but Kissing the Shadows and Hate Me are two of possibly the greatest songs ever made. KtS simply because of the technical ability on show and Hate Me, well, because its amazing, really.
Hate Crew Deathroll is what I believe to be the greatest album ever made. Every song is brilliant and its the only album that I can listen to all the way through. Alexi's vocals had also reached an all-time high on this album, especially in Needled 24/7.
Are You Dead Yet? never lived up the high quality set by its predecessor as it was much too inconsistent. The brilliance of Living Dead Beat, In Your Face, Punch Me I Bleed and We're Not Gonna Fall was followed up by Are You Dead Yet? If You Want Peace...Prepare For War and Bastards of Bodom. Still a good album though, and I know all the words to In Your Face :)
Blooddrunk was a bit of a shock to the system, to be honest, but the more I listen to it the more amazing it sounds. Blooddrunk, Tie My Rope, Smile Pretty For The Devil, One Day You Will Cry, Banned From Heaven, Done With Everything, Die For Nothing and Lookin' Out My Backdoor are all amazing songs, and even if the likes of Roadkill Morning and Lobodomy don't quite hit the mark for me, Blooddrunk is a really good album if you just give it a chance

Its a pretty good record, but nowhere near as good as Follow The Reaper. They tried to be heavier than the other stuff (less melodic) when there was no real need. What makes Bodom stand out, to me at least, is Alexi's awesome sense of melody, which is exagerated throught the keyboards. That record doesnt have it in comparison to FTR.

Just watched them tonight. A few thoughts:
Municipal Waste is the worst band I've ever heard. It's so bland, not even generic. Also, I went behind the venue to the tour buses, mostly to tell the Lamb of God guitarist I loved his Charvel, and the Municipal Waste singer had the ugliest girls I saw at the concert.
I couldn't hear Alexi at all. I was maybe ten yards away from Henkka until the moshing pushed me towards the other side of the stage. I didn't hear any of his solos, only some power chords. I could hear Roope slightly better, he brought it tonight. He looks like a drunk homeless man with no facial hair, though. I could hear Janne really well, he was pretty damn awesome.
I thought it was just the venue that made the guitar solos inaudible, but then I could hear As I Lay Dying very well. I'm not a fan, but they put on a hell of a show.
Lamb of God was really good on some of their better songs. Their lead guitarist had too much gain until he switched to a Charvel, which was a thing of beauty. It only strengthened my GAS for one of the new Charvels.

Grow some balls. That's all. If you can't enjoy Municipal Waste, then you have no idea what fun is. Fuck's sake. You don't listen to them for neoclassical wankery or breakdowns, you listen to them so you can shout MUNICIPAL WASTE IS GONNA FUCK YOU UP and have some cunting fun.

I wonder when he broke his shoulder, I don't think he had a problem in Houston on the 24th. Of course, I didn't understand a damn thing he said :(
He said he fell from his top bunk in their tour bus. He also had internal bleeding with the broken shoulder.

man i was at the concert last night. i was mostly there to see bodom and after 3 songs he just got really angry and tossed his guitar to the floor. i felt pretty sad, but i understood since i'm a guitar player and if i'm injured and i dont want to risk further injury. the rest of the gig was insane though.

Even tho bodom only played 3 songs it was still an amazing show. I was definitely pissed off they didn't play more. I almost pissed myself when I saw alexi in person for the first time last night. That guy is like my idol. After that I tried getting as close to the stage as possible. And finally got 1st row during lamb of god. Best night of my life :)
I just hope they come to NY/NJ next year
BTW does anyone know if COB are going to keep playing anyway?

Yea, As I Lay Dying was pretty killer, I know a couple songs by them so it was cool. And Lamb of God just set the place off! I mean I really don't like a lot of their new stuff, but when they played their songs that aren't new it was awesome. It was definitely worth traveling from the middle of Connecticut to New York. And I got to go on a train and a subway for the first time.
And times square.

'Good' and 'bad' are objective; 'like' and 'dislike' are subjective. You can like it all you want, but it still remains 'terrible' (that's below 'bad'). As long as you acknowledge that, we's all good.
Shinozoku
05-16-2009, 10:26 PM
I admit that the guitars are a tad muddy, and Janne doesn't have as big a part in the music anymore. They've drifted away from the neoclassical wankery they're known for and the songs a bit simpler and more downtuned than they used to be.
But it's not bad by any means. I think most of the songs on the album are catchy and good. In fact, I may listen to some of them right now :D

Lappo
05-16-2009, 10:46 PM
No, I'm saying that 'good' or 'bad' is not for one person to decide; it is a consensus reached by many educated, objective listeners.
Each individual is free to like or dislike anything he pleases.
Example ('good' + 'dislike')- A band is generally regarded by most as fantastic, or at least very good, but it doesn't quite click with you, you don't really like it; you understand why others like it, but it's just not your cup of tea. You respect but don't have it in your collection or listen to it. What would be wrong here is to deem it as 'bad' because you, personally, dislike it.
Example2 ('bad' + 'like')- Something is very clearly amateurish, full of faults, and all-around very lackluster; most say it's simply 'bad'. To you, however, there is this hidden appeal within it that just makes you love it. You acknowledge that it's music with little integrity or substance, but you listen to it anyway for whatever kick it brings you; otherwise known as a 'guilty pleasure', I suppose.
Hopefully this makes sense?
The other two combinations don't really require explanation.

Actually, it's more of a case of "It could have been better, but it certainly could have been a lot worse". I'm a die-hard fan of In Flames as well, and I'm able to admit that ASOP was pure, utter sh1t. They are an example of a band that has drifted away from their roots. Bodom has drifted some, but Alexi and the guys know what they like and what they wanna play. Plus, they still sound like Bodom (which is more than I can say for In Flames).
However, I still love In Flames and listen to everything up to Come Clarity. I love Bodom, and I listen to everything from their Inearthed days up to Blooddrunk. Nothing about them has made me want to gouge my ears out yet.

Your whole logic is flawed.
By that thinking, since Bodom has grown in popularity, they are 'good' now more than ever.

Popularity among people who can't tell crap apart from not-crap is irrelevant, though.
Generally, the more popular music gets among the general public, particularly teens, the more likely it is to be awful. And before someone starts name dropping Beatles, Pink Floyd, etcetcetc, yeah there's a number of exceptions, which is why I said 'generally'.
Like I said before, judgement by educated, objective listeners serves as a good measure of quality.
I like Something Wild, Hatebreeder, and Follow the Reaper; Hate Crew Deathroll is pretty OK, too. I don't like the last two efforts. This happens to match up with the general consensus of the quality of CoB's albums, because, I, too, happen to be an educated, objective listener.
CodySG
05-17-2009, 12:27 AM
But it's not irrelevant.
Just because you put yourself in the "elite" metal music connoisseur group above the lowly average listener doesn't make your opinion any more valid than someone elses.
People either like something, or they don't. Period. Whether a super awesome amazing knoweverything metal4lyfer suggests it or a random dude that doesn't know **** about metal. The band stays the same no matter who recommends them.
Your opinion is that you don't think the last two CD's from Children of Bodom are good, and that's fine...but no matter how you weave it, it's still your opinion which is in no way, shape, or form anywhere near a fact.

Treading on semantics here. A 'fact' is something like a date, or data, etc., yes.
Something can be 'objective' without being a fact. The collective opinion of educated, objective listeners is an objective gauge of the quality of a band or album. And that's what I'm arguing here, 'objective' vs. 'subjective', where 'good'/'bad' is the former and 'like'/'dislike' is the latter.
It is the objective collective opinion of people that listen to a wide spectrum of metal that CoB's last two albums are not good.
You keep trying to spin it such that this is my opinion only, and therefore subjective; if you read the rest of this post, it's clear that it's not merely my opinion.
CodySG
05-17-2009, 12:41 AM
But that's it though...it's NOT the collective, objective opinion.
There are just as many people that like the new stuff as there are those that don't.
And again, your opinion of who has enough calibre to be put into the "Educated, objective listener" is just that...your opinion.
I know plenty of people that listen to all kinds of metal and love CoB's new stuff, I know some that don't. There IS no massive group of "educated, objective listener" that hate the new stuff...therefore, while you do share it with many others, it is YOUR opinion.

Alexi is the most amazing guitarist this genre of music in a very long time. Was it just the show I was at, or does Alexi usually solo next to Janne? Janne was in the back of the stage, further back than even the drum kit.

And yes, he usually solos by Janne or somewhat close to him.

Yeah...we had a loyal cult for a bit there, but then a couple got banned, and then some just kind of left and then max fell off the face of the earth so no more uber amounts of pics to be posted.
I'm just chilling with nick and the ones left waiting for the second coming of our reign.
And Jack :D
Thinking Max (I am thinking of Delanoir, right?) might have gone through with his threats... he should have sent me his ESP

Yeah, Delanoir is Max. I highly doubt it, but who knows... I hope not at least.
Pretty sure he just moved on from UG, at least for the time being.

WooT!!!
Bodom is going to be on GH5! I've never really played any of the GH, and don't own any of them *not to be an ass, but I think they're kind of a joke :( plus I only like maybe 2-3 songs off any of the titles* but...I might just have to pick this one up.
I've been debating on GHM since that might be something cool, at least to me.
For some reason I just have a feeling it'll be Smile Pretty for the Devil...dunno why...I just think it might fit. I love that song anyway, but honestly...any Bodom song would be cool lol! I'm sure it'll be something from AYDY? or BD though.

Exactly, how ignorant can someone get? I showed her a screamo vid. FTR sounds absolutely nothing like screamo. I even had to send wikipedia articles on both of them.

Yeah, they gotta get with the times and notice that even though they're derived from those genres, they're called different things.

They're all different.
It's which is harder for YOU to play, everyone is different...some can play stuff different things easier than others.
There is no right answer, it all comes down to what kind of guitar player you are.
But, at the end of the day, if you have the skill, drive, and dedication, you can nail anything by Bodom.

i find their earlier albums harder to, but thats not to say their last 3 albums are easy, try a few songs from each out. Bed of Razors is one of their easiest songs i think, and a great one at that.

So...how 'bout that band Children of Bodom?
Anyone else getting tired of Alexi getting more sig bs?
I mean, no offense, but his tone really isn't THAT godly, nor is it very hard to obtain...
He has a billion zillion sig guitars, new sig EMG's, and I'm sure we'll be seeing more stuff in the new future.
Ah well...I still love him.

What Bodom song(s) do you want to play? Pick a couple you like, and just stick with it.

1. They played Kissing the Shadows live @ Rock Hard Fest.
2. They're coming to Toronto for a show with Skeletonwitch as support. The main support is TBDM whom I hate but Skeletonwitch + Bodom + Saturday night = win. I don't know if this is part of a NA or a CDN tour or not but whatever.

I don't get why people are paying out their most recent albums, because even though they may be a bit different from their older albums, they're really good in their own right. If COB just made Hatebreeder and Follow the Reaper albums over and over, it'd get pretty boring for not only us, but them: consider the fact that they've been playing the same songs from those albums non-stop for every tour they've done since the albums came out. It'd become a real drag for the after a while, don't you think?
I only have a select list of songs that I like from each album, and that is the same with AYDY and Blooddrunk (however, I should add that I like more songs off BD than any other album). IMO, FTR and HCDR were two of their weaker albums: although there were some real shiners on both, there were also a great number of filler songs on both albums.
Just my two cents.
CodySG
07-01-2009, 05:40 PM
Main reason people are complaining is because they changed their style instead of trying to keep the same style but new work.
I mean, in my opinion, sw, hb, and ftr, all sound more or less in the same vein, but all are unique in their own right.
You don't have to play the same stuff over and over again, you just have to be creative in the same style of music.
