What does that have to do with Children of Bodom? Besides the fact Alexi uses them. That's like me saying *what ever eye make up he uses* is decent, but I like Revlon better.
BTW what eyliner does alexi use? I've tried a number of brands but it never comes out as well as his...does he have a make up artist apply it for him?...in some of his videos he looks as though hes wearing blush or something?...also on a side note...were someone to tribute COB ...what brand is the jean vest he wears?

You're not serious are you???
You CAN NOT be serious!?!?!?!?!?!
The world is coming to an end...and I didn't even get to play an arena yet :wtf:
But seriously dude, it's probably just some big name eye makeup crap. I'm sure it's all the same....ask your mom or your sister or some female you know to put it on for you. Don't do it to be cool and look like Alexi though, that's lame. Don't try to LOOK like him or BE him, you can't. Be yourself man. Be your own guitarist, vocalist, wanker, whatever. Don't try to become another carbon copy like all the other wanabe guitarists out there :(

If you're saying CoB will never sell out then think again. They've gotten more and more mallcore the past 2 albums and it's not getting any better. I'm not saying that's necessarily selling out, because Alexi said he's sick of the neo-classical thing, but it's not like CoB hasn't become popular and stuff.
I don't believe it's selling out if the band wants to go in that direction because of personal preference. I believe that selling out is simply changing just for the money and because it's popular. From what I understand, Alexi couldn't give less of a shit about being popular, only in following his heart and writing kickass music.
Sorry if that last sentence sounded cheesy, but it's true.

Idk, have you seen all the adds Alexi does.
"I recommend everybody to use DR strings, cause you can beat the living fuck out of your guitar, and they still last.."
/takes bite out of pack of strings
"And they taste great!" *click*
And the whole "This is my US model of my ESP guitar, you just might want to buy one!" "If I was you, I would total get one of these guitars!"
I'm just saying, he has to make a living and usually *****s out a lot. I would do it too, I would rather do that than change the music. I still love him though :)

Well I mean, they sound pretty different when you listen to the old stuff and then their newer stuff. What songs did you listen too??? A few songs I really like are...
Deadnight Warrior - Something Wild album
Silent Night, Bodom Night ; Hatebreeder ; Bed of Razors ; Black Widow ; Children of Bodom ; Downfall - Hatebreeder album
Follow The Reaper ; Bodom After Midnight ; Hate Me! ; Kissing the Shadows - Follow The Reaper album
Everything from the Hate Crew Deathroll album
Knuckleduster - Trashed, Lost & Strungout album
Everything from Are You Dead Yet?
All in all, like I said old to new is pretty different, but it's still Bodom. Alexi's vocals have changed a bit too, if you wanted to get an album IMO Are You Dead Yet? or Hate Crew Deathroll would be your best bet.

No Amon Amarth is doing support and CoB is headlining. I saw them in Lawrence, KS and it's a great show. Bodom are always great live and they're just fun to watch. AA puts on a great show as well. Also make sure you get there in time for Gojira, they are damn good and unbelievably tight live.

I disagree with starting with Hatecrew Deathroll or Are You Dead Yet. I think most people would suggest Hatebreeder or Follow the Reaper. Basically if you like the metalcore side of metal with a lack of leads, go for HCDR or AYDY, but if you like neoclassical power metal with harsh vocals and a side of metalcore, then go with Hatebreeder or Follow the Reaper.
CodySG

Idk, I think if you're just getting into Bodom HCDR and AYDY are good albums to start out. I like them all, and like I said they sound different, but since he didn't know which songs he listened too I figured those would be a safe bet.
Personally I don't really have a favorite album, a lot of good songs from all of them.

But it makes him feel beautiful! Who cares what he likes to wear as long as he's still releasing good music? Either way, he's better looking than a lot of girls.
I don't know if this has been asked before (I assume it must've been) but who do you guys prefer: Roope or Alexander?
For me I'd say Alexander. He was the neo-classical and black influence to the band and his solos were really good.

Hello fine people. I suppose I enjoy a bit of the old COB, saw them at the Unholy Alliance tour in Dublin, ****ing ruled the stage! Alexi's a mad wee ****er onstage. Also picked up the Stockholm Knockout DVD t'other day, tis rather good also. So yeah, that's about it from me.

I've been listening to COB for about three years now and its been the best three years (musically speaking) of my life. Before I was listening (and still do listen) to a lot of old metal (Maiden, Sabbath, Metallica, etc.) and when I discovered COB I was completely blown away. They are one of the few good REAL metal bands out there today.
Awesome ****ing guitar. Amazing synth. Whats not to love about them?
And to answer Embodiments question, I prefer Alexander's playing over Roope's but IMO Roope has a better stage presence than Alexander.

I know a lot of people like to knock their most recent release, but I've been listening to it for about a year now, and I have to say that AYDY is probably my favorite album from them, aside from Follow the Reaper...
I only say this because of the "Roope vs. Alexander" discussion. I don't know enough information to contribute, but I like the guitar parts a lot more with Roope in it.

I though AYDY was mostly generic and repetative, a lot of songs seemed to be too similar, as opposed the HB and FTR.

Honestly, without the keyboards and the guitar tone. Children of Bodom wouldn't be as popular as they are. I think the fact that they're talented and the sound both musically and vocally doesn't sound like a lot of other bands makes them popular.

Alexi is one talented mother ****er and his guitar work is impressive but their music would sound rather boring without the keyboards. I think Janne helps give the band their unique sound. If it were not for him and his amazing keyboard skillz0rz, Bodom might sound too power metal like or maybe they'd be more of a generic shred band.
I hate the ugly synth but I enjoy the guitarplay

You know what? My goal in life is to play guitar, bass, drums, and sing at the same time. The One Man Band!!!!!
I would have an instrument with 6 guitar strings and 4 bass strings. I would fret the guitar with one hand, and the bass with the other. I would then have a drum stick attached to the headstock of this instrument, and play drums this way. I would then sing while doing all of this. No.
Unless you have a nice high gain tube amp, you won't be able to pull it off. Besides it's just a lot of mids. Also, don't worry about it. Don't copy other artist's tone, worry about making a cool tone that you like and slighty use others tone as influences. IE, Bodom is almost all mids, so use mids.
SynGates7X
12-28-2006, 07:58 PM
Still need his amp. And his guitar. Then use all the mids. Cuz i leave my mids at like 5 on my amp and then i set the mids on the EQ for my pedal at 10, and it doesnt sound to much like his.

I know he started with jackson guitars and then moved over to ESP.. I have an ESP H-1000 at the moment.. does anyone know what amplifier hes using specifically? I used to have a 6505+ with a basson 4x12 cab
SynGates7X

well his ESP is way different than your LTD. As for amps, this is what wikipedia says, but it might be wrong. Amplifier: Lee Jackson Perfect Connection preamp, VHT power amps & Marshall 1960 cabs

Theres an issue of guitar world where they show Alexi's Setup
I cant remember exactly, and it was my friends issue, but there is a pre-amp in his sig. guitar using passive EMG (85s?), Marshall amps, and some heads on his amp not sure which, mostly just noise suppresors and whatnot
by the way I'm an avid CoB fan, I love all of their stuff (except some on Are You Dead Yet?), I love how everyone plays their instruments, and I think they have an awesome, full sound to their songs.

Dude...I'll say it before I'll say it again.
Unless you have access to about ten thousand dollars and sixteen years of dedicated guitar practice, you WILL. NOT. SOUND. LIKE. HIM!
Don't spend money, get his gear, and try to be another copy like the multitude of other guitarist out there...just don't do it.
Why do you think CoB has become popular? Mainly there sound. They sound different than most bands, in order to be known you need to have something all your own.
He uses a Lee Jackson Perfect Connection preamp. The Marshall mod.
VHT power amp, though he says he changes poweramps a lot.
His guitars.
Jackson custom shop RR. neckthrough Alder body, Maple neck. Jackon J-50bc in bridge pickup. OFR, yadayada
ESP custom shop SV, his are th RV's, same thing really except with the HZ-H4 with a J-50BC preamp gain boost copy built in. His white scythe RV is the one tuned to D, his really, really nice black w/ glow in the dark pinstripes and sawteeth inlay is the one tunes to Drop C.
D standard uses DR tite-fit/hi-beam 11-50
Drop C uses DR tite-fit Jeff Healey gauge 10-56.
Again though, use this info wisely. DO NOT be another copy-cat guitarist like the bajillion other wana be's. Find a good Bodom tone on the gear YOU like so you can jam to some tunes, but leave it at that. Also, that Lee Jackson preamp is pissy and you need a lot of great gear to make it sound good, it's also a ONE sound pre.
 hope that helps.

If you've "come to realise" how bad they sound, then you've never really liked them.
I can almost tell for sure that you're not a professional musician...and that's not very relevant, but interesting :P
I like the name. It asks for a story. And a name that does that, is an interesting name, and an interesting name is a good name.
And they dig into the subject in many songs, which is a smart move too.
About Laihos vocals:
He's obviously not a great singer, and if i had heard him singing (without guitar) before I heard cob, I would have hated it.
But now he's in cob...And all I can say is that I can't imagine the songs without those vocals. (And actually love them in Hate crew deathroll)
I don't care that you don't like cob, but you're saying you used to like them, and now hate them. That means 1 of 2 things:
1. you're a retard
2. you've had a weird childhood with weird musical turns. Which almost makes you a retard.

Are You Dead Yet? is definitely a departure from their earlier stuff. I listen to my copy of Follow the Reaper and it is completely different. AYDY is more basic music - it still has great solos and riffs, but the non-stop neoclassical intensefest is nowhere to be found. More of an industrial sound, imo. But still a very solid record, well worth buying.

Ok, I've looked everywhere on the internet for this.
During the beginning of Downfall on the new live DVD, Alexi and Roope start playing a classic rock riff. It's a very recognizable riff, and I remember it from my childhood...But I have no idea what the song or band name is.

Purple is the most metal colour for me.
But i say that it would look gay if roy had a light pink coat.
He was killing someone on the aydy album , so maybe this time he will be burrying someone .

Lmao at Lordi. My bro loves them...they're kinda like GWAR without the hilarious lyrics. But they do have the requesite Finnish stage show of battle axes and war cries.
They aren't metal, more hard rock, but they are catchy to say the least. For a good idea of who they sound like, listen to "Hard Rock Hallelujah" "Blood Red Sandman" and "Devil is a Loser"

My favs. are:
Black Widow - Love the classical/chromatic "breakdown"
Downfall - just great
Silent Night Bodom Night - very fun to play
Bed Of Razors - Probably the easiest bodom song (except the keyboard solo)
Children of decadence
Bodom after midnight
Everytime i die
ëtc.
I love preety much all songs by them except the AYDY album.

lol CoB's never been known for writing good lyrics...Most of their songs are just Alexi screaming that he "doesn't give a fuck" or about how badass they are.

Also, on the topic of Roy wearing pink: He wouldn't have to wear pink, just like, a darker purple. Or make the background darker. What's your opinion on orange, though?

dude most of you guys are screwed up... there's nothing wrong with the keyboard, their music is of a foreign genre (finland, as any good CoB fan should know) and keyboards are natural in their music. alexi's guitar playing is arguably close to zakk wylde and ppl like that. his vocals are NOT annoying. and idk about the live shows, but i do know that their stockholm knockout show is the best show i've ever seen or heard of.

All that junk about Alexi playing like Zakk... I don't buy it. Alexi has said in interviews that he likes "throwing blues notes" into his scales and runs and whatnot, but for the most part, he plays a neoclassical style (soloing) and thrash (riffage) a little bit. Zakk on the other hand plays a really bluesy style although he is classicaly trained and likes playing it as well. I can see the similarities but they definitely have a different style for sure, like their own sound.

dude, the zakk wylde learning classical thing is true. i got this zakk wylde tab book and he said he learned classical guitar. he even had some classical songs and randy rhoads stuff on the demo tape he sent to ozzy. thats what zakk said, so if you want to call him a liar, then thats fine with me.
and for the record
Alexi Laiho would kill Zakk Wylde at guitar anyways.
