Personal opinion says it is, at least in his mind.

There is no "most insance" or "best" solo. It's all opinion.

Indeed. Good way to put it, it really depends on what you got into first and how your mind works. In my mind, Follow the Reaper doesn't have the "best" solo. That is my opinion. He may like it a lot but I don't. So yeah, I see your point on how its all about opinion.

Lol, of course that's not a flame. And keep listening to them, BoR is a good song but their are better ones imo. And I started listening to them back when I wasn't so sure about the screaming, but it grew on me and now I love it because they fit the songs so well. If you want and reply back I can give you some other recommendations for songs.

Yea I thought someone would see that I said that I thought that screaming was stupid and they would immediatley think it was a flame...

I am listening to Follow the Reaper...it was sick..

If you know any more good songs by anyone...and you wanna pass em along...please do :D

I agree with that. It is too hard to pick just one song that hass the "best" solo in it from CoB. They all have their significance in one way or another.

Aye, well Opeth are pretty good to break into dirty vocals(even though I got into CoB first), I'd ask around in their thread cause I only know like 4 of their songs ha.

Hmm, and for CoB songs I'd try Angels don't kill, Hate me (which converted guitarplaya27), and Needled 24/7 are some good starter songs to get into them.

And you should see how badass they are live: http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=chaos+ridden+years&search=Search

Hey, speaking of covers, what song do you all think would make a kickass cover for CoB? Honestly, I think Master of Puppets, but I'll prolly get bashed for that xD But seriously, having Janne do the clean backing to the harmony/James' solo(possibly played by Roope?)/second harmony would sound awesome.

They've played too young to fall in love by Motley Crue live but there aren't any recorded versions. So I'd like that to be covered in a studio version.

When I first got Megadeth's "Peace Sells" and heard the songs with gang shouts in them, I immediatley thought of CoB. I believe one of the songs was "My Last Words". Another cool Megadeth cover would be "Ashes In Your Mouth", I think. With Janne doing the opening solo, then teaming up with Alexi on the duel :headbang:

I'm gonna see if anyone in my band could accuratley emulate Alexi's voice, then once we get our chops up to par and get some decent equipment, I'm gonna see if they wanna do a mock-CoB cover. Then I'll try to get it recorded and posted here :p:

it's cool that there's a thread for Bodom. it's not so cool that some people come here and whine about the content of their albums. you can't expect a band to sound the same from their first to their most recent album. Something wild had a death metal sound and Are you dead yet had a powermetal/hardcore vibe but it was still a great album.

The American ESP's have gone down to $2000. A good price considering "other" brands are that much or higher, and you're mostly paying for the name there too.

The Jap. CS ESP's are SOOOOOO worth the money. I mean, it's CUSTOM SHOP so you're kind of underpaying...it's just you need to like the finish and stuff. I'm going to get one of those, but I want to check out the RR24 first.

Eyeliner is cool cuz it makes it look like you have a shadowy glare. I think it looks great on guys and girls alike, and it shouldn't be considered gay. I hate these metal scene standards at times. Guys with eyeliner look great.

I also think they could do a awsome cover of peace sells, symphony of destruction, take no prisoners, reconing day, in my darkest hour or the mechanix. Any of those would suite their style i think.

When I saw them live the drummer was using two bass drums and he had like no room. When they finished the show he couldn't get up, it was pretty funny. I think he switched to single to have more room haha.

lol. My drummer uses a double bass and only one bass drum. Like whats-his-face said, it is harder to lug around two bass drums. It is easier to practice with just one and, if you have two, use both at a show just because it looks cooler. Either way, you get good sound. But with two, you can change the tuning of one of them to get a different sound out of them.

But Jackson has a new RR24 that's pretty much exactly like Alexi's Wildchild, but with an EMG 81 (and no sticker :(), and it's common knowledge that the active EMGs sound better than the passive ones. Would that give the RR3 a major advantage? I mean, I know Alexi only needs one pickup because that's his tone (which, tbh, sucks - the timbre of the guitars is one of CoB's few weak points), but, generally, anyone else buying a guitar won't be playing just CoB, and so will want something a bit more versatile, that can sound like things OTHER than Alexi Laiho...

The only good thing *some would say* is the RR3 has a neck pickup. Other than that, the RR24 is a better guitar. Neckthrough, real EMG's, Real OFR, 24 frets...better paint jobs! WOOT!!

For now, just get the RR3. Unless you can get the to over 1k, you could get an Edwards/ESP Rhoads. Black w/ white pinstrips, neck through, reverse sawteeth inlay, OFR. All in all, really great guitar, but if 700 is your max budget, get the RR3.

ty. do u know what guitars roope plays?

He plays a custom made ESP based on the body style of a charvel star and has basically the same spec as Alexi (pickup booster, single EMG-HZ, OFR ext).

The problem with the 'off the shelf' Alexi guitar is that it is differant to the ones that he actually plays. The lower wing is shorter on his customs and makes it look alot nicer imo. Plus the paintjobs and inlays are differant.

you can buy his spec guitars here but they look way too expensive (http://images.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=http://musicmaster.co.kr/bbshop/img/item/1933_0s.jpg&imgrefurl=http://musicmaster.co.kr/bbshop/shop/main.php%3Fpage%3Dview_class%26class_id%3D443&h=145&w=145&sz=3&hl=en&start=7&tbnid=6mWwJNNOSwLBLM:&tbnh=95&tbnw=95&prev=/images%3Fq%3Desp%2Bsawtooth%26svnum%3D10%26hl%3Den%26safe%3Doff%26client%3Dfirefox-a%26channel%3Ds%26rls%3Dorg.mozilla:en-GB:official%26sa%3DG)

Even in metal songs, being able to change to clean for a verse or breakdown is such a powerful weapon ...take Cemetary Gates, or the first solo in Master of Puppets.

Well in my case(luckily) I have two other guitars, both with neck pickups, so a guitar having only one pickup isn't that big of a deal anymore.

Thanx for the advice, but you are the only person that told me what to get lol. But yeah, I'll look into the Ibanez's.

Anybody ever try the Edwards Alexi Sig?

i have and they're amazing, if your looking to get one i high;y recommend it. about the pickups, i only really use the neck pick up for cleans, and the bridge for everything else. im not a huge fan of the neck pick up for solo's, but for cleans the neck pickup is the way to go

I don't get it. Is this Edwards guitar just a copy of Alexi's ESP?

CodySG

Edwards is the Jap. LTD.

So basically, yes it's a cheaper made version of Alexi's ESP.

I like Alexi's guitar but due to the fact that it is a sig model, the price skyrockets and its like 1 grand+ and it has like, EMG HZ pups. What a rip off. I like how theres a cutaway near the end of the neck so you can shred even higher, even easier. Pimp.

My fav songs are Angels Don't Kill and Sixpounder. Great songs.

Children Of Bodom is just so kickass! evry musician in the band is in the top of thier class.

personally i love the keyboards in the band syth sounds are awsome theres nothing wrong with a little keyboard wankadge it gives CoB something different that stands out between the bazzillion other metal bands. and evry now and then there will be just this totally badass keyboard intro that will give you this rush like "oh shit this song is about to be badd ass" like Bed of Razors.

i love henka's bass playing he allways seams to play just the perfect thing to give the song
just that extra juice and make the song just ooze together in a good way

I still don't think you guys get it...

Alexi's ESP RV's are CUSTOM SHOP GUITARS!!!

I.E. Made by Japanese people in the ESP custom shop the same way as if you paid $5000 and waited 5-12 months for a custom built ESP guitar.

Also, even the American was the only non-custom shop Rhoads(ish) shape guitar with neckthrough and 24 frets until the RR24 came out. The price was bad on these, 3k is not very good when you can get an RV for the same price or less. Now they have gone down to 2k, but the RR24 is probably still a better bet.

The RV's are worth every penny though, great, great guitars.

well it's just like haveing the bridge pickup selected all the time. So you olnly get the more treble tone, and not the smoother rounded one that you would get with a neck. doesn't bother me though, i never use my neck pickup on my current guitar, not even for sweep picking.

deathmetalboy
02-24-2007, 06:09 PM
oh... i dont really get it... what is a bridge pickup? and i been playing guitar for almost 2 years lol i just dotn know what the difference between a regular pickup and a bridge pickup is.

[I Buy Peace]
02-24-2007, 06:27 PM
Well the bridge pickup is the pickup that is closest to the bridge (the bit where the strings come out of, sometimes has a whammy bar). With it being located near the bridge it gives the brightest tone and is usually the most used in rock and metal for both lead and rythm, but alot for guitarists use the neck pickup (the pickup closest to the neck) for a smoother more rounded tone.

oh i have a dean dimebag tribute guitar its my first one. my next guitar will be a RR3 with floyd rose =)

[I Buy Peace]
02-24-2007, 06:48 PM
Awsome, dime uses the neck pickup alot for that hevily saturated tone like the walk riff, but he uses the bridge alot too.

If your getting an RR3 make sure you check out how to restring a floyd rose, it's completley differant to a normall guitar. don't let it put you off though, there well worth it

deathmetalboy
02-24-2007, 06:50 PM
oh crap.. lol dos the bolt neck have anyhting to do with it?

[I Buy Peace]
02-24-2007, 06:59 PM
Nope, bolt on necks are just a poular way to connect the guitar to the body, it has nothing to do with haveing a floyd.

If you search for "floyd rose" in columns on this website you should be able to find step by step instructions on how to restring a floyd

Anyway, the reason no one snagged that guitar is either they don't want it or...they don't want it? It's not Alexi's guitar, the CS RV's are made the same way his are, not the Edwards models.

I'm dissappointed also remove the keyboard and it's very metalcoreish, But the older shit like Follow The Reaper and stuff...Alexi wrote some sick shit everytime i hear Mask Of Sanity i cream same with Bodom After Midnight, Alexi and Janne's dual solos fkn pwn best song on Are You Dead Yet? is In Your Face Or Are You Dead Yet? I hope the next album gets up to the standards of at least Hatecrew Deathroll. Alexi for PM!
