BUCKETHEAD IS MY GUITAR GOD PERIOD

Yeah , i love evrything he has done and i listen to all of his albums all the time.

BUT what i realy dont like is that theres such a big amount of people that are like:
"OMGZ i LOVE buckethead , Nottingham lace is the greatest song ever, can anyone tab out the jordan solo ?"
Well if you dont get what i mean, its the one song fanboyism that annoys me.
Listen to his other stuff to !

I would realy realy want a tab for False Radien Cross :(
there is a tab at binge and grab but it says that the tabber is working on it.
Its been like 3 months :(
Thats the sickest shred fest ever.

People at Binge And Grab rarely tab out solos or the like. They'll just tell you to improvise. I really like that song and album though.

There is nothing wrong with Nottingham Lace. It's a great song.

And yes, I do listen to his other material. Almost all of it. Example, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ssGhWYHU8ck:)

NOTTINGHAM LACE, Kansas Storm, Electric Tears(the song), Population Override, Too Many Humans, Angel Monster, Welcome to BucketheadLand, Way to Heaven, Sketches of Spain, ect.......yeah pretty much everything IMO. It really depends on if you want his fast stuff, his slow stuff, or both.

Wait, wait, he did a cover of Sketches in Spain? By Miles Davis? Where the hell can I find that?

Personaly i think it doesnt realy have any memorable songs (BHL2).
Dont know man, its probably my least favourite buckethead album , probably because theres so much good stuff that buckethead made and it just doesnt stand out.Theres nothing in it you cant find in his discography.

My personal favourite albums are:
Giant Robot - i love pretty much all the songs, but highlights are Want Some Slaw , I come in peace, post office buddy, pirates life for me,welcome to bucketheadland,i love my parents...well yeah you get it, all songs are great
Crime Slunk Scene - great album , great songs great guitaring nothing to add.
Cobra strike II - now this is an album that you dont listen to loud or you will kill everyone around you OFCOURSE if their are not guitarists. This is a shredders heaven album pure shred trough the whole thing.
Monsters & Robots - great tracks , kind of like crime slunk scene but its not an album that you dont have´to skip tracks on.Who me realy makes me feel sad, i guess its the title.
Bucktheadland - I liked it realy much a while ago but it got boring because there arent that many guitar tracks.
COLMA - Great album , very touching tracks.

Well yeah those are my fav. bucket albums.

Oh and i listened trough almost all 13 In search of the albums and i didnt realy like it. The quality realy sucks and its just not worth to have all of those.
I realy hope Buckethead takes all of those ideas and make a few great REAL albums.
BTW. Didnt he record all of those in one day, i heard that somewhere.

I have a live show of his. It is 10/26/2005 at state theatre in washington. Anyway, there is a song on there called slunk. Does anyone have this track and know what the songs in there are called?

I know hog bitch stomp, but the beginning stuff is awesome. Especially when he goes crazy on that acoustic. In my opinion his best acoustic work.

Thanks Godly Moose, I was wrong the first time it was a show in Virginia, not Washington.

I am really curious about the first few minutes, before hog bitch stomp. After it sounds like for mom.

http://media.putfile.com/Slunk

P.S: In my most recent issue of guitar world, they interviewed paul gilbert, and one of the questions asked if he was buckethead.

I don't have it next to me, but Paul gilbert said that he taught buckethead when GILBERT was 17, and buckethead could not even drive. Gilbert says he remembers his mom driving him to lessons over at gilberts house, and that he saw bucket recently in an airport and barely recognized him. Overall though, Gilbert is proud of buckethead he said. :D

Godly Moose
04-08-2007, 02:22 AM
Well you're correct, after he plays Hog Bitch Stomp he plays For Mom. But the beginning part I'm pretty sure is just improv. Perhaps he just uses it too warm up for other songs to be played on the acoustic.

On archive.org they have alot of (legal) live Buckethead bootlegs, one that caught my fancy is Buckethead Live at Aggie Theatre on 2006-04-14 (April 14, 2006) (http://www.archive.org/details/Buckethead2006-04-14.flac16), I downloaded it last night and its really good - I advise all of you to follow suit and download it ASAP. The only downside is the music is in .flac format - meaning it takes ages to download and you need to convert it to mp3 (or whatever format you like to use) with a program like Switch.

My set of "In Search Of The" shouldn't be too far away now - hopefully it'll arrive in the next couple of weeks. I'll take some pics and post them here when they arrive. Over on buckethead.tk theres a thread showing pictures of peoples sets and, they look awesome. Specially the lucky buggers that got #13, #23 (Michael Jordan's number) and #666, all with special artwork on them. One persons set got lost in the post (set #9) and Buckethead himself made a special set, with an apology on one of the discs! Amazing, huh?

In other news, I've put in an order on TDRSmedia for Peppers Ghost, Inbred Mountain, Elephantman's Alarm Clock, Crime Slunk Scene and Island Of Lost Minds - they should arrive soon so I can start rocking out to his newer stuff

EDIT: You can get the stretchy straps on thomann.de for about £6.50 (11 euros)

Woo! A copy of Crime Slunk Scene arrived on my doorstep for me this afternoon :D Listening to it right now - I'm not all the way through yet but what I'm hearing is fantastic :D

It definitely sounds heavier and "harsher", when compared to something like Giant Robot, in terms of harsh, trebly chords/sounds on parts of tracks "Col. Austin vs Col. Sanders AKA Red Track Suit" and the beginning of "We Can Rebuild Him".

Still no news on when my set of In Search Of The will arrive, though. Hopefully sometime this week.

Ok im looking to buy a buckethead cd but he has so many cds out I'm not sure which one to get. I have colma and I like it, but I'm looking for something heavier. I like his rhythm work alot on tracks like Gigan and Music Box Innards, and I also like his more melodic, but heavy, stuff like Soothsayer or lurker at the threshold. Does anyone know which is a good album?

Lightitup

I would suggest Giant Robot, Population Override, or Crime Slunk Scene.

I think Population Override gets played the most by me, but Giant Robot is jam packed with songs, so that is really diverse. Sometimes I get angry at Giant Robot though since half the songs are covers of famous tunes, but they are still really good, and fun to listen to. Crime Slunk Scene just has little bit of everything.

I'd say Giant Robot - either that or Crime Slunk Scene. Or both :p:

Giant Robot is less "standard" (think Post Office Buddy, with the guitar fading in and out of the talking) with some silly little themes aswell (although well made) like the Star Wars theme or Pirates Life For Me.

Crime Slunk Scene is a more structured album than Giant Robot, although both albums are extremely good.

For a heavy album based and has a lot on riffs. I would say The Elephant Mans Alarm Clock(You already said Lurker at the Threshold so you might already have it.) But his new album Peppers Ghost is really good. Almost no solos(There's still some :) ), based a lot on riffs, and has the sound of The Elephant Mans Alarm Clock, mixed with Crime Slunk Scene, with some Kaleidoscope sprinkled on it.

Here's the second song from the Peppers Ghost album used as background music for this skating video: http://youtube.com/watch?v=BvU8EIxP2pY

No, it was just some thing I believe Jas made for the DVD. There's only one I believe.

Hey, I just started listening to Buckethead, and I really like him so far. Just want to ask a few questions though, I'm sorry if they've been answered or brought up but it's 29 pages, and I don't have a lot of time to read it all.

1. Musically what are some things he does a lot? Like the tritone (I think) lick he uses a lot from what little I've heard..

2. What are some intermediate songs by him to play? I know a lot of Colma is calm and low tempo, but anything uptempo that you could recommend? I hear Welcome To Bucketheadland is pretty good..

3. Can you recommend me 2-3 more albums of his to get I have Colma, and a lot of random songs.

Sorry if I'm repeating anything.. and thanks again for the help.

Evil_Magician

1. Tritone tapping, and shredding in chromatics or any scales that sound as dissonant as possible.Alot of simple but real fast scale runs , alot of popping and wah usage when improvising in blues scale. Soothing clean songs and stuff.

2.Want some slaw is great and has a cool solo might take some practice to nail that scale run though if youre just starting out. Welcome to bucketheadland is great but the solo might be to hard .Binge anf grab is great too. King james is real easy.

3.
Giant robot - best bucket album ever IMO
Crime Slunk Scene - if youre into more standard metal/rock stuff
Cobra strike - if you just wanna listen to some extreme shredding buckethead style.
(look at question 1#)

I just wrote this like 2 pages ago so next time just browse trough the pages.
OK ?

BTW.
This night i hade the coolest dream ever.
Buckethead was coming to town and i won a personal guitar clinic by buckethead in my yard.
He was real long, not as long as i tought though.
He came to my house and he wasnt talking and stuff and i was asking him to play stuff etc. and he just took his mask off and the bucket and he said:
"I know its hard to talk like this , i will just act normal but dont tell anybody"

He looked like a normal dude and it seemed so real.
He looked like in that newspapper ad but kind of older.

He just proceeded showing me stuff and i was saying how much i love his style etc.
I dont remember the rest but he gave me a white mask :D
He was also saying something like "Create your own style" or something.

I remember when he left, i realy wanted to go online and tell everybody that he took of his mask and talked to me :P
Right when i woke up i just grabbed my guitar and wrote this kick ass tapping solo.
And i increased my tapping speed to 20NPS :D

I remember when he left, i realy wanted to go online and tell everybody that he took of his mask and talked to me :P

Dude, I had a dream like that the other day. The difference was, though, that instead of dealing with a guitar clinic by him, he moved in next door to me. He came over to my house and gave me a signed copy of Peppers Ghost and an action figure toy, and then he took off his bucket and mask to talk guitar stuff with me. I woke up and went to my computer to post here about how THE Buckethead moved in next door to me, and I made it to the UG Homepage before I realized I was awake and it was just a dream.

T'was quite a mood-killer :(

Evil_Magician
04-22-2007, 02:24 PM
What if you made it it and posted a thread ?

You wake up all sad just because it was a dream and go to UG and BAM , you posted in The NEW Buckethead thread that buckethead is your neigbhour.
You run to the house next door and you see that its just your old neigbhour and you wake up knowing that all that was a dream.

Now that would be a mood killer.

And BTW. I win you at buckethead dreams.
You didnt get anything out of the dream but i got alot thats realy worth for me.
No more buckethead style copying (i guess buckethead got pissed of me copying his runs),much faster scale runs. Yesterday my ultimate max clean speed was 15NPS but today after the dream it went past the 16NPS bar .

So yeah Me > theultimatesin :p:

Oh and do you already have Peppers Ghost ?
I realy love it , reminds me of crime slunk scene but has some jazz influences in it .
Like the first song with the legato runs in the beginning. Realy reminded of some Holdworth stuff.

Does anybody have the In Search Of The set? Because at buckethead.tk theres a person with set #820. So someone here must have it.

I'm so excited to finally get my set tomorrow, even though I'm getting raped by customs (£25... damn customs (or $50)) I hope for set number #750 - #850, if nobody else has got it then I'll do a little review and of course if people want i will take pictures of the set (although i've lost my eyetoy so i might have to take bad quality pics with my old webcam :()

I downloaded the thing to see if its actualy worth buying but i didnt like it much so i deleted it '.

I want buckethead to take the best of those wedges and make a few real albums.

You will never guess what. I got set number #665 One away from 666. :D

And the customs people didnt take much care over it, the albums arent in too good condition - most of the corners are bent. GRR. Lets hope the music makes up for it

EDIT: Travis is a truly amazing man. He said he will replace my damaged CDs for new ones! Even though it wasn;t his fault they got damaged. He really bends over backwards for the fans :D

On topic, I'm planning to buy the Young Buckethead DVD. Would it be good if I just buy the two?

Here's the first DVD, the family reunion backyard solo is really good.

"Deli Creeps at Cactus Club 11/24/90
Deli Creeps Soundcheck 11/24/90
Buckethead in the Basement 5/21/91
Buckethead's Backyard Solo 6/16/91

Filmed in 8mm, Young Buckethead Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 document the birth of a legend who'd just flown the coop. Vol. 1 features a complete 1990 Deli Creeps concert and soundcheck in San Francisco, an insane keyboard performance in a SF basement, and a stunning extended guitar solo performed at a Buckethead family reunion."

While the second DVD is, this is the one that includes the interview with him talking normally.

"Deli Creeps at the I-Beam, 9/1/90
Deli Creeps backstage, 9/1/90
Deli Creeps at the Kennel Club 4/3/91
Buckethead in the Park 12/29/90

Originally filmed in 8mm, Young Buckethead Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 document the birth of a legend who'd just flown the coop. Vol. 2 features two complete Deli Creeps concerts in San Francisco, unrehearsed backstage footage, and a very rare interview in a park."

He doesnt tell anyone who he is, but everyone who works at the store knows him. I think he said something like "its not like he's signing autographs or anything.. he could be here at this exact moment and you would not even know." I havent seen him there... yet................

I have asked it before but this time.....

If you get to choose only one buckethead album for the rest of your life which one would it be ?

Mine would be probably Giant Robot but i cant decide if i like the NTT better.
I would take Gian Robot because its probably the most enjoyable album from buckethead.
It has it all , disney themes , horro movie stuff , riffing+soloing stuff , crazy freak out stuff nice clean stuff etc.
Definatly the ultimate BH album.

Whats yours.

And by the way how many here listen to cuckoo clocks of hell and/or kaleidoscalp , i personaly find those albums uninjoyable , just too dark and dissonant.
Allthough i did like the hidden track on one of them.

I saw Population Overdrive and Colma in a record store. Didn't know which to get, so I just went with PO. I really dig the album, but I'm just wondering if I made the right choice. In all of your opinions, which is the better album?
Population Override is Buckethead at his best. Great buy.

Is bingeandgrab.com the one where you could get it? And how long would it take if it's shipped to Canada?

I asked about this too. I looked on bucketheadland.com, and they didn't have any. I never thought to try bingeandgrab or youngbuckethead, but I tried ebay, and they have a few. I'll probably end up going to the local Dean's costume store though.

He is quite a fan of Jazz. I love Bucketheads work he did with Hellborg, and also his work with the late Tony Williams(Which was also the last album that Williams was able to record on). He's done many songs dedicated to Jazz greats.

Godly Moose
06-07-2007, 02:26 AM
Nottingham lace should only be played with distortion, Mr. Sandman a really toney clean tone, and pure imagination, should be played with clean with a little reverb, and possibly very little delay. The only song out of those that you need a pedal is Jordan, and you would need a whammy pedal. You would use it when he plays on the A string. Use this video as an example(In the video he uses a wah in the chorus): http://youtube.com/watch?v=kpStPCJul-A

I'm in my 40's, and have had the pleasure of enjoying many great guitarists/bands/performers through the years...too many to list, but each amazing in their own right.

Sadly, I've just recently 'discovered' Buckethead though You Tube. I heard of him of course, but never really tuned in, so to speak. Maybe it was a first impression of the Bucket...or the fact I didn't listen to Praxis at the time(again, my loss)...or maybe I've just been listening to too much mainstream radio-play the last few years...

I've spent the last couple of weeks watching a LOT of BH...The Nunchakus..the Robot...the Bucket/Mask...the Gifts...and of course the Guitar...wow...I love this guy. Not only is he an incredible guitar player/composer, but he's carved out a nice niche for himself, and has done so in a way that doesn't compromise who he is and what he wants to convey to his audience/fans(his GnR stint aside...although he still remained BH).

I won't get into a comparison debate because it's pointless. There's a lot of great guitarists/bands who I enjoy. Buckethead is certainly one of the most unique performers I've ever had the pleasure of watching...and will be a permanent fixture in my music library....I just wish I'de jumped on this train to Bucketheadland a few years earlier.

Well if you're looking some for really, really Jzzy albums by him. Look up his stuff he did with Jonas Hellborg, and his stuff with Arcana(Arc of Testimony is the name of the album, he did the album with the likes of Bill Laswell, Pharoe Sanders, and the late Tony Williams). And some his stuff with Praxis is pretty fusiony.

I still think anyone who wants to get into Buckethead, should start with this youtube video.

Jordan status: 30%! Thats 50% better than last time I tried on full speed. If I can't beat it by the end of the month, a bucket on my head will be the only answer

Population Override and then Colma and Electric Tears.

Try Cuckoo Clocks of Hell if you want his heaviest album. :p:

I have the game...never play it. I got tired with it. I have found it to be lame, except Thr Trooper. That I will play.

Call me crazy, but I think that, shreddy solo runs excluded, Jordan is easier on real guitar than GH.

For a more 'heavier' sound I would recommend the Elephants Mans Alarm Clock over CCOH. CCOH is heavier, but I think EMAC is much better for someone who's just starting with Buckethead.

I guess I kinda went overboard anyway, CCOH has some unexplainable sound, but I do love the album. Although yeah, I forgot about EMAC.

The only problem with him being on GH2 is that now a bunch of kids in my school claim to be huge Buckethead fans when all they've heard is Jordan. Idiots...

For me, Inbred Mountain is my favourite album or Crime Slunk.

On the young buckethead DVD, it says 3 deli creeps shows, and I'm wondering how long are the shows? How much footage is on the discs period?

oh, and Binge and Grab rules, but in the liner notes it says "instrumental version." On which CD is the song with vocals?
