For a more 'heavier' sound I would recommend the Elephants Mans Alarm Clock over CCOH. CCOH is heavier, but I think EMAC is much better for someone who's just starting with Buckethead.

Yeah, and Giant Robot starts out with Doom Ride, everything after Thai Fighter Swarm besides EMAC are very good songs for people getting into Buckethead(Unless they want to hear some of his ridiculous shredding). They really show how Buckethead has progressed since his earlier albums. And not to mention CCOH is pretty Avant-garde.

The riff he does at 0:34 - 00:48 on the song Fountains of the Forgoten(from CCOH) = :liplick:

I just got guitar hero 2, and almost have enough money in the game to buy Jordan.

It's my only real goal...

EDIT: Anyone seen this? http://youtube.com/watch?v=84B89LCbSlo

Is it a new CD? The background song is pretty cool.

Whenever someone mentions 'Jordan' in a conversation about Buckethead, they have only heard that song, and are most probably thirteen.

Yes it's his new album, Acoustic Shards. All the songs were recorded around the same time of the Young Buckethead DVD's. Album is just basically him with an acoustic, and that's pretty much it.

I saw Population Overdrive and Colma in a record store. Didn't know which to get, so I just went with PO. I really dig the album, but I'm just wondering if I made the right choice. In all of your opinions, which is the better album?

'Population Override' is way better. 'Colma' is great, but the soloing on 'PO' is infinitely better - just listen to 'Earth Heals Herself' and you wil understand..

I have to agree. Jordan, IMO, is far from Buckethead's best work. My friends only know it (and probably only like it) because of Guitar Hero. When I played Binge and Grab for a school show, it was dismissed as boring largely because it wasn't Jordan. I think people just don't feel all that comfortable around songs they don't know.

Also, to the user asking about Binge and Grab being an "instrumental version" on Giant Robot:

There was an earlier version of Binge and Grab that had vocals. It was performed by Deli Creeps (I believe there is a live video of them playing it on YouTube somewhere). When Buckethead started flying solo, he kept the song but dropped the vocals.

can anyone here play big sur moon perfectly? i found the perfect setting on my DD-20, and for the last week all ive played is my version. it starts off the same way as ol' buckets, until after the first arpeggio, when i slide to A on the e string, pedal that, and then to the g, which i hold for a bit and then repeat what is essentially the same arp as the first one landing on the E string. then i do the bit where he repeats those three chords an octave higher, and i add a part that he used to play in the early days of the song. then i come back to the low E on the same descending arp and play part of my sheets (somewhere over the slaughterhouse). then, noodle around a bit on the general scale. after that, i play the intro but in a different key. then i end the song the same way bucket does.
sorry for the long post, but i had to share my achievement with somebody.
on another note, does anyone here have acoustic shards and is it worth getting? i want to get it because i really enjoy his acoustic work.

I've seen videos of Buckethead doing his finger nubbing and videos of Shawn Lane talking about Buckethead doing his finger nubbing, but not both...so I can't help you there.

The best site for Buckethead IMO is "tdrsmusic.com" which is almost straight from Buckethead himself and isn't horribly overpriced like on Amazon or on eBay (most of the time).

Frikin buckethead, he has these albums like cobra strike and bucketheadland that are just random nonsense. Then he'll put out an album like Colma or Crime Slunk Scene that just kick you right in the ass. It's like random nonsense/brilliance. I wish he'd change the tone of that white Gibson though, he's playing these amazing songs and the tone can be so hollow.

This is the (LEGAL) link to Buckethead's rare album 'Giant Robot NTT' (referred to as 'NTT' because of the company it was released on, and so that it wouldn't be confused with his other album of the same name.) I strongly suggest that you download it, as it's got some amazing stuff, although it does have two or three weaker songs.

They're all really different.

I'd say Giant Robot for the best "overview" of all his styles, from funky (aquabot, robot transmission, chicken) to rock (Welcome to Bucketheadland, Binge and Grab) to eerie (warweb, chamber of horrors) to emotional (I love my parents) to just plain crazy (want some slaw, post office buddy) as well as his renditions of some of his favorite tunes (star wars, Pure Imagination.)

They're all really different.

I'd say Giant Robot for the best "overview" of all his styles, from funky (aquabot, robot transmission, chicken) to rock (Welcome to Bucketheadland, Binge and Grab) to eerie (warweb, chamber of horrors) to emotional (I love my parents) to just plain crazy (want some slaw, post office buddy) as well as his renditions of some of his favorite tunes (star wars, Pure Imagination.)

hm...well I know he loves soothsayer, so maybe it'd be better to go with the emotional stuff. Which of his albums has the most of that?

Teeth2483

Electric Tears has quite a few emotional songs.

MavataR

colma and electric tears is probs his most emotional albums, his new album peppers ghost id say go with. Like crime slunk scene its more of a structured album with out the weird voice over stuff.

I received "Bucketheadland 2" today from Amazon. This is the around my 10th BH CD and this is the first one that has disappointed me. There are some decent riffs and shredding spread across the 30 "songs" but there aren't really any complete songs. I really admire and enjoy his playing but this CD feels like more chicken and slaughterhouse/"Texas Chainsaw Massacre" crap than guitar playing... I wouldn't recommend this as anyone's first BH CD's.

I can't help but think how awesome he would be if he just dropped the slaughterhouse stuff.

They're pretty much Buckethead's "Narrative" albums, probably most of it aren't even meant to be songs.

Okay, I've listened to BHL2 a few more times now and I appreciate it a bit more, but I still wish there was less overdubbing of the "slaughterhouse" and "chicken" stuff and more of the amazing riffs and shredding. This CD has 30 "songs" on it, but only a little more than half have any actual music .

I still wouldn't recommend it as anyones first BH CD, my recommendation would be either Giant Robot, Monsters and Robots, or even Colma, depending on their musical tastes.

I get the theme, I would just rather listen to his actual music much more than listening to someone monologue about playing with bits of "dead bodies", "pieces of you", or "pieces of brains and hearts".

Also, I began learning Welcome To Bucketheadland today, and recognized the short little

To anyone looking to Buckethead this year, party america is thinking about making a costume of him, but all you need is a blank male mask, some orange police line type tape ( to write FUNERAL on) you don't need long hair, get a dreadlock wig it's the same, and a Rain coat or Black trench coat, and a big-ass garbage bag for candy ^^

Hmm talking bout halloween , what you planning to do ?

I gonna put on my reguaral costume.
Small coat to make my hands look extremely long, some pants ,any shoes and my halloween mask (seen in some of my youtube videos).
Then , i gonna try to get some blood , maybe from some meat in the fridge, and spill it all over the mask and hands . Grab the most ugly plastic bag i can .
And go trick-or-treating.
Im like 6.3 , so thats gonna freak some people out . Gonna get my buddy to film it too :D

What about you ?

i have a transhman uniform, but it's really hot, so i'll probably just end up wearing a zip up black hoodie with some camo pants and combat boots. the wig i have isn't dreadlock wig, it's just a black curly long hair wig. i got the mask at wal-mart for around 1.99 and i have a kfc bucket. i probably won't write funeral on it though. it would be cool to have a raincoat and put some fake blood on it, or even have a herbie puppet, but that stuff can get expensive. the trashbag is a cool idea to put candy in though.

Delay signal , i must say that when i saw your first post i found it completely ridiculous and just thought "STFU" but you keep coming with interesting facts .

But still its pretty much imposible .
If Randy Rhoads is buckethead then who is burried in the San Bernardino cemetery ?
*thun thun thun !!* (Hitchocks "Psycho" reference)

Anyways i dont see how Randy could have grown up to 7' and got extra large hands, different hair etc.
Besides dont you think it would be such a damn mean thing to do to your mother , and Randy realy loved his mom.
isn't it obvious they must have staged his death, probably a way to get somebody that was trying to assassinate him to stop, but Randy still wanted to play his music, so with a plastic mask a Kfc bucket and hair dye and a fake background he was able to. his mom coulda been in on it, and he might be wearing a piece of equipment increasing his hight, the government can do all that stuff, and hands,, well i think they might be gloves but dont quote on that one

How can you seriously think that Rhoads is Buckethead? Despite the fact that Buckethead is a hello of a lot taller, broader and better and guitar than Rhoads, why on earth would Rhoads want to fake his death and come back several years later as a completely different person? And, seeing as how he's spoken to Ozzy, wouldn't he have recognised the voice?

Show me evidence that an assassin was after Randy Rhoads.

There is NO WAY that Rhoads' technique could have developed so much. Buckethead can alternate pick at 16 nps and tp with all eight fingers, which is MILES beyond Rhoads' capabilities.

Sorry, but it's ludicrous.

Yeah, the main draw of them is the hand drawn pictures and hand nummed numbers.
Now, for my Big-B thoughts.
Although very few people have heard Buckethead, and most surface-obsessed music fans think he is a un-musical freak, the people that Buckethead has affected are more changed and more appreciative of his music than almost any other band. Thoughts?
Oh, and does any one have an answer to my previous question?
