Anyone know anything about this wood? Is it good quality and will it make the guitar sound last for a long time/sound gets better. Anything would help because after going up two series(200-400) in the Taylor guitars my dad has finally alowed me to get the 412-ce. I just want to know if its a good wood!

Europeans realized the tonal potential of Ovangkol many years ago and continue with its use today. Ovangkol or Shedua comes from the same family as Bubinga and as such shares the same tonal qualities. It has the depth of Rosewood but has the much better snap associated with medium density woods such as Koa and Walnut.
Ovangkol (Guibourtia ehie):

Ovangkol goes by several different names. It is not uncommon to see Ovangkol listed as Mozambique, Shedua, Amazoue or Amazakoue.

The Tree:
The tree reaches a height of about 100ft with a diameter of about 2 1/2 feet. Older stems have a growth of slightly raised horizontal rings, which affect the figure in the log.

Appearance:
The heartwood is yellow-brown to deep chocolate-brown with grayish black stripes. The grain is interlocked and the texture is moderately coarse. Works fairly easily with hand or machine tools but saws slowly. Silica content has moderate blunting effect. Glues easily, holds nails and screws well, stains and polishes satisfactorily, and can be brought to an excellent finish.
