They do still monitor it ;) everything you use your connection for is monitored and stored and can be accessed at any time they choose. Personally, I rent a server for uploading/seeding, that way I can seed at around 7,000kb/s (7MB/s), which is pretty handy for spreading around the latest games around sites. And it ensures your home IP address is out of the swarm, that way if you were to get caught, your ISP wouldn't know about it, since you are accessing the server remotely.

I'm afriad I don't have a pic of it uploading (I don't have a spare £20 for another month's server rent) but here is a pic of me downloading a brand new film (at the time) to upload to another scene site.

I'm not quite sure what your asking...but if u buy an external hard drive you can download/upload torrents TO that...and they need to be hooked up only when your using the data on it or when your uploading/downloading from/to it....also I've never heard a noisy 1.

Why would you want to try and use a torrent client to transfer files? You could use your iPod as an external harddrive. Just plug it in, and copy/paste whatever you want into the iPod drive.

hey guys i kind of have a problem. i've just started using torrents, and tried downloading some stuff from isohunt.com, but the downloads are taking forever, even longer than limewire. for example, i tried to download the dethalbum (metalocalypse cd), and after 4 hours, it's still at 25%. then i tried to download the metalocalypse season 1, which has only gone to 1 percent over 4 hours. I'm using BitTorrent if that helps at all, and my internet connection isn't fast, but not THAT slow either. on the about-torrents website linked on the first page, it said torrents can go up to speeds of 1.5 megabites per second, but most of mine are only at 3-4 kb/s. what am i doing wrong?

its probably just lack of seeders.......... on the bittorrent main window thing... double click on any of the torrents going slowly..... neer the progress bar there should be a number nex to the word peers......... then in brackets how many of them are seeds... if there is way more peers than seeds then thas why and there is nothing you can do about it..... Theres also an internet speed test you can do to find out the speed of ur connection... i dunno the link.. just try googling internet speedtest or something... Also make sure that ur ports are forwarded for the torrent provider... esp if u use like demonoid or something cos they have specific ports in use..... Also make sure ur firewall isnt blocking anything...... Thats all i can think of...... If ur torrents are going slowly however... more often than not its a question of patience and they will speed up... the last thing i downloaded ranged from 100kbps to 3kbps........... And dont forget to reseed!!

The crack is probably a modified copy of the .exe file. Swap .exe's and try again. Kepp the original in case the modified doesn't work.

Simple.

After installing the game, if you left the destination folder as the default, it should be in C:/WINDOWS/program files/*insert game here*. C:/ can change letters too, depending on what hard disk you installed on or partition. So to to the folder and open it up, and inside it you'll see a bunch of files. Switch your view to "details" so you can see each file type, and then look for an execute file. For example, it'll be called 'gta3.exe' if you installed Grand Theft Auto 3. Now cut that file out (don't leave a copy in there) and put it somewhere safe. Now get the crack, which will be named the same as the file you just removed. It will also have the same icon image. Copy and paste (or cut, whichever you prefer) that file into the folder to replace the file you removed. Now just run the new execute file (once it's in the folder, obviously), and taadaa, you're done.

You'll have to extract the 2nd folder (scan for viruses first). Inside it will be an .exe

Refer to this picture. It's an example of ESET Nod32 antivirus. Your folder will look a lot like it, obviously with different icons.

Edit: If your crack isn't exactly the same as the file you're going to replace (except for a slight size difference), then you don't have a crack.

ok, I'm having some trouble, as i've always used limewire. torrents seemed to be the way to go so i switched.

I've just downloaded photoshop (2 versions in fact..), and all the files seem to be there, but i'm at a loss as to how to install it. 'instructions' wouldn't open, and when i try to open 'setup' the hourglass comes up for a few seconds then disappears. i saw something about copying and pasting files further up but i didnt really get it, and it was for a game too.

any help would be much appreciated.

Maybe try reboot your PC. If one of the install processes has started, but not completed, running it again won't help.

If a reboot doesn't work, well, not all Torrents are perfect... :(

I've heard of .cue files, but haven't ever gotten one. These might help.

Download VLC player if you don't already have it. Once its installed, open it and click "Open File". There will be options to select your file and to manually select the subtitle file.

Its taking longer overall because torrents generally download albums or discographies as opposed to singular songs.

Its moving slower because when you download from limewire it cross references your search with all limewire users online and then it gives you details about their connection speed, meaning you can choose the fastest. Torrent trackers like isohunt however are basically a library of all the torrent files their servers are tracking. When you download the torrent file, it is nothing more than a protocol for how your client will download the files. When you open the torrent file in your client it attempts to connect to all the peers currently associated with the file. Your download speed will depend on whether seeds are online, their connection speed, and how much bandwidth they allow to torrenting

Guys I'm having a problem with both uTorrent and bittorrent, the little shout (!) in the bottom bar is there and apparently my port isn't forwarded properly, a while ago I followed the instructions that bittorrent gives, but no dice. I can only d/l at 30kb/s halp!

I'm currently downloading a 4.66gb torrent on Vuze, and under tracker status it says : "Error: Invalid Passkey (0 - ))" and yet it's still downloading, and at 400kbps to boot (fastest I've ever gotten with a torrent and it doesn't even have the green smiley face).

Is there a chance this torrent will stop halfway or something? What does this error mean? Because it seems to be working better than fine.

I don't think there is such a thing as a "good tracker" for any specific thing. It just depends on what tracker(s) the torrent is using.

I'll be happy to help find you some torrent for mac, but I need you to be a bit more specific about what you want. There are 3 different age of empires games, the really old one, AoE II, and AoE III. Also, I'm not sure if you mean World of Warcraft or just Warcraft III. I've never heard of Settlerset but I'll give it a look as well.

I already found a number of torrents for those games, but I don't want to post every single link for them to find that you didn't mean that certain version or something.

but as for your question, look for some trackers on piratebay and mininova, you are bound to find some there. I know the piratebay vip trackers are good, so you might start there. Don't know the exact names of them sorry :(

Let's say you've been hired by the MPAA (Sony, Universal, Disney) to track down people sharing the latest hollywood blockbuster (Hancock, The Dark Knight etc.) and to send them DMCA (Digital Millenium Copyright Act) legal notices telling you to pay them an out-of-court fee of $6,000 or to face legal action (fees upto $32,000+ and/or 2 years in prison), where would you go to find such people/easy targets? Would you go to the hassle of finding a way into a private tracker with 1 invite per user?

No of course not, what a waste of time and money. You'd hit hit Limewire/KaZAA and more importantly, public torrent trackers, which are an easy way to use their software to rack up a list of thousands of peers and IPs, to which they'll ask your ISP for your personal details in order to send you these notices.

Public trackers (Demonoid included, because it's very easy to get an invite here) are dangerous. Even private trackers hosted in the UK and US are dangerous, because they can be raided at any time, unlike other sites hosted in remote locations such as Hawaii and other islands (good luck getting a search warrant for there)

BitTorrent was created with sharing in mind. Meaning the more you share,, the more you get. I believe Bram Cohen's BitTorrent motto is "Give and Ye Shall Receive"
Saying that though, upload too fast and you'll choke your connection, so you should probably limit your upload to about 75% of your maximum upload.

The reason most people have such huge uploads is because they are using dedicated servers to upload. If you're interested you can rent one for a month for around $50? I've done this a few times and you're basically controlling a computer remotely (hosted in UK or US, depending on your provider) with a very fast internet connection (100mbit) meaning your upload can max out at about 7MB/s (7,000 kb/s) which will give you a TB of upload in a matter of hours.

Also, you should maybe consider choosing another internet provider, 12gb a month is pretty sucky. I have a 3gb a week cap, though that only applies to 4pm-midnight, outside those hours I can download however much I want maxing out 800kb/s.

You have every reason to worry if you are downloading from private trackers. The thing I would reccomend to those using public trackers (yes I consider Demonoid a public tracker!) and feeling paranoid about getting caught (I would be if I used it for the latest films/games/music/software) is investigating into Newsgroups. Newsgroups is a service which is an anonymous service which uses FTP/HTTP meaning the protocols are very difficult to intercept. The speeds you get will almost certainly hit your maximum as they are being hosted on servers, and not on a peer's system. One service is "Giganews" you may wish to investigate this through google. It is not free however, some of you may be reluctant to pay for warez because you are used to getting it all for free, it's something like $12 a month for unlimited downloads at unlimited speeds and is useful if your paranoid about using public trackers.

I'm going to assume you're talking about download speeds and not upload. If so, how fast you download depends not only on your own connection but also how many people are seeding the torrent and their connection speeds. If a torrent only has a couple people seeding it, it is going to go much slower since there are less people uploading the files to you.

Limit your upload speed also helps a lot. Public trackers usually have a high amount of leechers compared to seeds, and there will be a lot of people with NAT problems, so you'll be uploading a lot so you will be shoking your connection, so limit your upload to 75% of your maximum possible.

thats not necessarily true, i only had 2 seeds once and was running a 300 kb connection. it depends on your connection a bit but mostly the one with the server that the seeder is connected to.

Look at the number of seeders. If there are only a few, you will more likely get slower speeds since there are less people uploading to you. It also depends on their connection speed as well as yours.
