Gary Moore is pretty sweet, I like his stuff with Thin Lizzy the most though I think but he is still a damn fine blues player IMO.
Anyway me and my GF are totally getting kicked out of the house so we're looking for somewhere cheap to rent and it's gonna suck, will be a flat or shared house so I won't be able to play guitar or take our pets or anything, not to mention we can barely afford it anyway.
On the plus side we won't have to put up with her parents or her fat lazy sister so it will be all good as long as we can find somewhere reasonably close to our jobs so we can keep earning and saving money to go back to Aus.
EDIT: Probably won't be able to afford internets either  WTF am I going to do with my life with no interwebconnections.

I tried Orgasm, Ectsasy, Nitrous, Pot, Alchohol, and Speed. The only one that anything remotely close to the intended result was Ecstasy, which just made me feel very strange, shake violently for short amounts of time, twitch a lot, and I couldn't stop laughing. It was kinda cool.

Awesome, my GF and I move into our new place on Sunday! It's a house share type thing so we get our own bedroom and then shared everything else, all furnished, bills included in the rent. Wireless internet included in the rent. AND it's walking distance to both of our jobs so we'll be saving over £100 a month on petrol money aswell so we'll actually be better off than living here with her parents, plus we won't have to put up with them being cuunts anymore.
Gonna be awesome, I'm really looking forward to it. The other couple (who own the house) seem quite nice aswell but I think they are jesus people, they have noahs ark on the table and gay **** like that, which is fine with me as long as they don't try to preach at me.
So yeah, things seem to have worked out quite well actually.
Also I didn't know Where The Light Is was out yet? I it out in UK, I might go buy it (Or try download it illlllllegally.)

It was actually quite good, her dad is a pretty good musician and is nice enough when he wants to be, her whole family are actually not too bad and free accomodation and free food for 10months saved me a LOT of money. Just now they always seem to be pissed off with us for nothing and we're all getting a bit fed up of it so it's time we left and did our own thing.
I really want one of those foot stomp percussion box thingies, gonna have some experimenting at building my own.. I'm sure I can make a decent sounding wooden box to stomp on but I'm just not sure what kind of microphone or electronic crap I would use to amplify it for gigging purposes.

I was sitting in the car yesterday night at the park with my girlfriend, and we started doing what highschool couples do, just making out and all that good stuff, and the fucking cops came and banged on the window and showed me his badge and scared the living shit out of me. Nothing happened, he just told us to leave, but it was still the scariest thing that has happened to me in a long time.

He's only young too, still got to develop his voice and plenty of time to learn to put more emotion into performing. I wish I was half as good a guitarist as he is now, let alone how good he will probbly be when he's my age.

Hi blues and jazz forum. I have been at a jazz camp all week if you missed me (you didn't). Couldn't matter that much though 'cuz I learned a ton and hung out with some great musicians. I also got to bluegrass jam with a friend of mine and some kid there who was incredible at fiddle. We were going to do it again the last night and record it but the kid didn't want to. Also there was an autistic kid who was amazing at drums.

You know what's an awesome song Thunder On The Mountain by Bob Dylan off hi latest album Modern Times.. I thought if was Peter Green at first singing then checked the jukebox (was at work and someone put it on) and it's Bob doing an awesome 12bar with great great vocals.
If you haven't heard it.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d5uKHa9Gmks Listen and enjoy. I think I'll learn it.
Moving house tomorrow, should be fun. Now I'm gonna watch a Buddy Guy and Santana at Montreaux jazz festival DVD that my mum finally copied and posted over to me. Its a triple DVD I got just before I came over and only watched it once, has Santana guesting with Buddy Guy, Bobby Parker and Gatemouth Brown. Quite good to see him play different stuff with the other 2 guys but Buddy plays a phenomenal set and I think Santana noticed he was really on it that night because he came out quite late only for a few songs and then just chilled out in the background, which is a very mature and respectful thing to do I think, BUT.. I'd have loved him to feed of Buddy and see them both let loose.

It's the Stampede. That's how they make their money. It's a fucking gold mine for our city. All the bars, gas stations and hotels bump up their prices and it's insane.
And it's not really an amusement park I guess... They only have it for 10 days during July and then they take all the shit down.

I made it to my new house.. I'm stealing one of the neighbours' internets because the people can't remember their password to sign into their network..
So I have a funny story..
We came to check out the house and it was all nice and the guy was really nice. Sorted.
So then we rang the next day and said we'd move in and brought them a deposit that night and met his fiance and she was nice too, all good.
So on sunday we moved in. Did 1 massive load of basically everything except guitars and amps, carted it all up the stairs and then the other people went out so we could get unpacked and settled in a bit without them faffing about.
We unpacked everything pretty quickly then went back for guitars and amps and loaded all that in the car, cleaned the room in my GFs parents house, then brought all that crap here and brought it up the killer stairs with gret difficulty.
So we were all settled in, I was just putting the plugs in my amp and the other people came home. So we thought we'd have a rest and go chill for a while...
About 20mins into our conversation with them, having a drink and a rest before work, the girl piped up and asked "So are you guys religious at all?".. I just kept quiet and let my GF deal with it as I tend to start insulting people whenever religion is brought up..
"No not really." My girlfriend said.
"We are a bit but we don't take it too seriously. We go to church on sundays, we go to spiritual church" .. We just kept quiet, it was getting akward (I'd already known before we even went inside the house because of all the angel statues in the front window, I even said to my GF "Oh no, they're jesus people")
Then the girl asked my GF "Do you believe in spirits?"
"I'm not sure what I believe really." She answered politely.
Now for the punch line... The girl said "Oh because I can see spirits. Sometimes I can tell people's past and on Sundays at church they sometimes let me get up and communicate with people's spirits"..
So yeah, we're a bit creeped out.. Hilarious though.

It's an unpaid gig so no worries about the money... Its the same as my last gig, instead of Wilkestonbury, now it is Wilkestock.. It's an outdoor gig at the pub I work to about 300 people and a large majority of them are musicians themselves. I want to entertain them, not bore them too much so I'm trying to do more exciting and different songs this time because last time I played all straight blues except for Hey Joe, which is still pretty bluesy and samey played on acoustic. I really want to do NYLSB though so I think I'll ust get someone to play some tasteful lead to accompany my singing to keep it moving along and hopefully hold the crowd's attention.
So far the songs I'm gonna do arent very bluesy, I'm gonna do:
Mr Jones - Counting Crows
House Of The Rising Sun
NYLSB - Fleetwood Mac
Roll Away - Back Door Slam
On My Way - (My own song, I'm sure you've all heard it by now ((its on my myspace, check it out)))
You Ain't Goin Nowhere - Bob Dylan
The Weight - The Band
Need a few more but I can't think of any. Only have 10 days..

I mean, honestly, they are people too. They did their time. I can understand why people get upset, it is horrible and disgusting, but they do have a right to live.

Also, all the threads seem to be the same thing nowadays. Someone just saying "I've been into metal and shred my whole life. I wanna know how to play the blues. I'm consulting you guys since it is just such an incredibly complex genre and requires massive amounts of theory, right? I'm starting out with this 12-bar thing, and I am totally stumped. And what the fuck is the pentatonic scale? I never actually listened to blues, I'm just a shredder who's making a sad attempt at making myself look open-minded."
I am pissed off today.

That's the problem with your average shredder; they expect things like theory and scales to tell them how to play, which is probably why they have so much trouble with the blues. It's based off just three chords, and a five note scale. Not much learn, lots to play ;)

I'll hopefully get to see Pinetop Perkins with Willie ”Big Eyes” Smith, Calvin Jones and Jerry Portnoy.
Also I'll probably catch James Cotton, Charlie Musselwhite, Kim Wilson and The Fabulous Thunderbirds playing a show together. Which should be pretty good. (James Cotton, ftw.)
The reason I'm going there is playing, tho. The band I'm in is in the semifinals of this competition for young blues bands, which is pretty cool as only 10 bands get through to the semifinals.

How many of you pay for your music? Just curious.
TheDev01dOne
07-30-2008, 10:52 PM
I download all my music first and don't buy most unless it's current, smaller bands who I really like and I really like the album.
Pretty sure enough people have payed for enough Muddy Waters' albums.. Whereas I most recently bought Back Door Slam's album, all 4 of Collard Greens And Gravy's albums, a couple of Jeff Lang albums.. They actually would appreciate the $20 or whatever with being independant instead of 60% of my money making some gigantic record company CEO richer.
I'm fine with giving my music away for free if people wanted it. I think the fact people want to listen to it is enough gratification of making it. Disregarding expensive recording costs and duplication/distribution costs of course, but there are ways around that I guess. Breaking even would be the best hopeful outcome. Therefore I don't feel at all guilty downloading some Buddy Guy or old Fleetwood Mac or Roy Buchanan or whatever since they've already got plenty of money..
Does that even make sense?
TNfootballfan62
07-30-2008, 10:58 PM
^Makes perfect sense as a good rationalization. ;)
That's like saying that since Wonder Bread (don't know if you even have that in England) are already a huge company, it's okay to take their bread from the store without paying for it.

If you play a lot of electric, try learning some songs on acoustic, can still be the same genre but I find swapping between electric and acoustic and transferring techniques tends to open more possibilities and can be fun to experiment with.
Otherwise just learn some crazy fast stupid technical metal stuff to get your fingers/brain out of their comfort zone.

Hey y'all.
I returned from the festival on Saturday, but I've been kinda busy since then.
One of the most disappointing things that happened there, was that some retard in administration decided that concerts after 21.00 were only for those 18+ So I didn't get to watch Pintetop or nothing. I did get to watch Kenny Wayne Shepperd for a while tho. Watched him from the street, looking in. He was pretty amazing.
The band I'm in did a pretty good job as well. We didn't go on to the final, but we've only been playing since September and consist of 2 16 year olds and 2 14 year olds. The winners were 20-24, have released 2 EPs and they've been playing together for like, 6 years. So we've still got some time on our hands :p:
I did however, get to watch Vidar Busk (amongst others) and he is just... Wow. A true guitar virtuoso. His playing is very Jazzy and Bluesy. All at the same time. His performance was just blinding. I'm still listening to his "I Came Here To Rock" cd, constantly.
I also met some guys there who saw SRV just after he went clean, pretty cool stuff. One of their brothers had seen him in like '79 too, which must've been fantastic.
I also got the Dunlop Jimi Hendrix Wah. For like 200-300$ which is a good price (In Norway at least ;)), I mean it's cheaper then buying the same pedal online, from a Norwegian site. It's a pretty good wah too, I've been running it like this: My Guitar > Ibanez TS 9 > Dunlop JH Wah > Roland Cube 30. Which gets me some surprisingly good sounds. (The battery cost is going to be the end of me tho. :haha: )

Ahh Ok. It's a new season. And if I'm not mistaken, that was the game when Deuce got hurt. If he can come back and be at least 2/3 of what he was, then the Saints are in great shape to win the South.
TNfootballfan62
08-08-2008, 04:08 PM
^Yeah, if they can get a defense together, they'll be tough. Adding Shockey was great for them, too.
slidething31
08-08-2008, 04:11 PM
And plus, they play in the NFC. It's a hell of a lot tougher for yall to come out of the AFC south.
TNfootballfan62
08-08-2008, 04:12 PM
^I know! At least the Texans used to be 2 wins, but now, they have the talent to compete for a wild card spot.
slidething31
08-08-2008, 04:14 PM
Isn't it funny how a few years ago everyone ripped on the Texans for taking Mario Williams? And that Bush just dropped into the Saints laps? Vince Young hasn't been quite the dissapointment that Reggie has, but he hasn't been great either.
TNfootballfan62
08-08-2008, 04:19 PM
^Well Vince had a great first season, considering he was a rookie QB. Last year he took a big step back, thanks in small part to no real playmakers at receiver. But, we got rid of the Offensive Coordinator and brought back the one that turned Stevie McNair into a 3 time probowler and MVP, so maybe he can bring Vince some success. Plus, we added Alge Crumpler at TE and Chris Johnson in the draft, who runs a 4.2 40. No to mention, the O coordinator thinks our rookie receiver is like a more skilled version of Derrick Mason, so if our offensive improves like I expect it to, then we'll be serious contenders, I think.
EDIT: But to answer your question, yes, that's hilarious.
slidething31
08-08-2008, 04:29 PM
^ Yup both the Saints and the Titans have definitely added some pieces. But still, with Indy, the Jags, and the Texans, that is probably the toughest division in football.
As for the NFC south, Atlanta sucks. Carolina, I think, will be lucky to win 7, and Tampa Bay might be decent.
TNfootballfan62
08-08-2008, 04:31 PM
^Yeah, who won the division last year? Tampa? I think they'll repeat unless New Orleans gets those defensive guys they picked up in the offseason to work out well for them.
slidething31
08-08-2008, 04:39 PM
Yeah Tampa won it with 9 wins. They beat us twice. But Sedrick Ellis, the rookie from USC, and Jonathan Vilma, should help out the D a lot. And hopefully, the corner we got in the draft can do some good things, cause the secondary is really where we struggle most.
TNfootballfan62
08-08-2008, 04:46 PM
^:haha Tennessee snuck into the playoffs as the 2nd wildcard, and 3rd best team in the AFC South with 10 wins. But that's the NFL. In 5 years, the NFC could be the dominant conference.
But yeah, those guys should really help. A lot of people underestimate the value of a good Defensive tackle, but if you look at the Titans without Albert Haynesworth last year, our defense was average at best.
The Titans secondary was really impressive last year, which kind of came out of nowhere. Now it's the same group of guys with a year more experience. Should be an exciting year.

Ice hockey is great too. Minor League games are the best. 5 dollar tickets, and there were so many more fights than in the NHL. Also dollar beers on Wednesdays.

Anyone picked up Buddy Guy's new album "Skin Deep"?
I got it yesterday, absolutely fantastic worth every penny, Derek Trucks and Robert Randolph are incredible. EC makes a contribution on "Every Time I Sing The Blues" but it isn't a star track IMO. The first track, "Best Damn Fool" is mind blowing. The title track "Skin Deep" is a bit clichéd but a nice song anyway, and Derek Trucks has an incredible solo.
My favourite track is definitely "Who's Gonna Fill Those Shoes" with Quinn Sullivan (whose like 10 or 11) great lyrics and super groovy.
I really recommend it! :)

Yeah, I listened to that at the local music store as well and thought it was brilliant (big fan of Derek Trucks), I'll probably pick it up pretty soon.

Wow. So I just found a few songs from a Dead show in 1970, with Duane Allman and Peter Green playing with them.

I've broken someone's arm playing school rugby...was absolutely gross, I stepped on it by accident (but his fault coz he was supposed to have his hand protecting his head but tried to grab the ball when he was on the ground = fail and bound to get hurt) and it snapped at the elbow and came out of the skin...
Ice hockey is a manly sport from what I know of it, that game is vicious.
I've broken other peoples limbs playing football. And have had a few of mine broken. The object of rugby is to get rid of the ball before you get hit. The object of football is to kill the guy with the ball. Pussy my ass. :o

That's not necessarily true of rugby, the main objective is to score (as in American Football I guess) however in American Football the objective seems to be to score by any means possible.

Also, what does everyone think about this thing with Russia and Georgia? Honestly, it kind of worries me. Especially with Russia's comments about Poland, which are somewhat hostile towards America.
TNfootballfan62

There's a lot of tension in the world right now, and the bad part is, it involves countries that America won't touch: Russia and Iran. We won't do anything to hurt them because we need their oil.
This whole dependence on foreign oil is going to lead to a world war.
:)

tis troubling, but if you look down the road 20 or even 10 years, I think world war is almost inevitable. :( :(
TNfootballfan62
08-18-2008, 10:15 AM
^Yeah, and it's because we're letting people like Russia flex their muscle on small democracies with no punishment, because if we try to stop them, it will cripple our nation. The world tried appeasement in the 1940s with Germany, and you see how that worked out. It's probably to late to fix the problems now, but the first step is independence from foreign oil. If Russia knew that we could send troops at a moments notice, then they wouldn't be so eager to invade places like Georgia, but they know very well that we aren't budging.
But those are just my thoughts. :haha

DID go to school at UC Irvine. It's too expensive.
I like the school, but the area is not to my liking. Too many pretentious middle class assholes. Not for me.
