that drives me nuts, the price of oil is down because demand in the US went for shit, but gas prices are still the highest they've ever been

why?

those bastard oil speculators driving up the cost of fuel

we should be paying half of what we do right now, and the oil company's profit margins would still be fat

ze monsta

Fair enough, I assumed it wouldn't be that way because of fuel prices.

theneildeal

Well, mining stocks are always a good bet. The likes of Cairn and Xstrata, the secondary mining companies, are good growth companies and are takeover targets.

Other than those, you can find bargains in most sectors. Im building a model that can predict the profitable companies for my dissertation.

Stay away from financials and leisure/retail stocks.

When oil prices skyrocketed, gasoline prices didn't rise proportionately. That means oil companies didn't profit as much. Now they're making that profit up as oil prices come down.

Nope, at least not cancer since there'll never be one miracle cure for cancer...Four or five different AIDS treatments are in preclinical trials ( practically on the market in a year or two ), so there's a possibility there, but you'd have to be pretty quick.

that plan sounds brilliant, except for the most part I like winter

I like winter too ( snowboarding this year, weee ), but the majority of people have their brains wired to be happy when it's sunny, and sad ( or less happy ) when it's rainy, so there's a good chance there :D

I just don't know if I'm technically skilled enough, I mean, i can do some basic electronics, I partially re wired my bass last year, but never anything that small before

edit-

the worst part of it all is i bought two pedals I use only every now and then, my fuzz is nice, so is the octavio, i should have bought something better and more useable for the 175$ that octavio set me back though, :bonk:

it actually has a pretty sick fuzz to it, but I just don't have use for two pedals that are only slightly different

I should be setting up sound for the band but the gig got cancelled(they said postponed but no new date). It was a benefit for the Red Cross, 40 bands and 5 stages. I was looking forward to it. My guess the license fot the beer tent fell thru. So here I sit on UG. We are going to have a rehearsal later, some food, beer and bonfire.

Well I was scrolling through the list of blues/jazz artists round here ( the one goolz made I believe ), and I noticed Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds on the list for contemporary blues. Anyone else into Nick Cave round here? Happens to be one of my favourite performers :)
Not sure if I'd label him as a blues musician ( not sure how one'd label him at all ), but nevertheless, a great musician and character. And, since recently, a guitarist :)

imgooley
09-22-2008, 12:11 PM
Well, his Stagger Lee cover is pretty dark AND bluesy at the same time.

That and one other song are the only two I know, and I can't remember the name of the other

mas0n
09-22-2008, 04:18 PM
I'm not saying he doesn't have bluesy songs, he does indeed, but I dunno, he isn't really straightforward blues, as I said, he isn't straightforward anything :)

His greatest influences are mostly bluesmen...But anyway, not that I'm complaining, I'd rather see him here than anywhere else. Sure does deserve to be here more than some other guys *cough*John Mayer*cough*

There's still Oregon, Cal, and Notre Damn.

And the fact that they're 1. USC, 2. Currently #1, 3. and that they lost early.

The SEC has 12 teams. 3 in the Top 5. The Pac 10 has one in the Top 25.

I'm trying to start an acoustic blues duo to go out and gig. I figured I don't know that many songs, so combine my songs with someone elses songs, then add in solo's to stretch them out a bit and we shoud be set for some nice laid back gigs. Which will be good compared to all the loud rock cover bands that are around here. Also I might get a chance to play some harp and stuff if I practice enough.

You haven't requested me. What is your myspace dude I will find you and befriend you.

Anyway I have another MIJ Esquire now. It's an 85.. '62 custom reissue, CAR, double bound with rosewood fretboard all original. Can't wait for it to arrive.

Though I have a niggling feeling I would've been better spending the money on a resonator instead but I just need the Esquire for the cool factor.

I befriended you on UG profiles.

I really don't want to sell the amp but I just don't have any use for it so it's basically paying for a bit of my new Esquire. It's such a cool little amp, but it's too loud for bedroom practice and a pain in the ass to switch cables around when I can just use my Laney all the time and get decent enough tone. Would probably cost a fortune to send to USA unfortunately Goolz.

What kind of sound?

I think It's going to be one of these,

http://www.bassexchange.com/catalog/images/GL%20Asat%20Bigsby.jpg

an ASAT Special, just because the pups are amazing

but I love strats so i was thinking about one of these

an S500,

I mean, G&L's were made by leo fender, so it's about as good as an american strat, but with better quality control

To me, I wouldn't buy a new guitar without playing it first. Unless it was special ordered, or a second hand guit.

I've played the tele shaped one

pure secks

and i've seen a side by side for the second one and an american strat, and to be honest, I couldn't for the life of me tell the difference

I wouldn't buy one without trying it either

closest thing I've played to the gibson is a epiphone Dot with p90's

To be honest, I'd go with the teleclonester with the bigsby, but then again, I'm a sucker for bigsby's.

My next guitar is going to be a Gretsch Corvette, probably.

I probably will, I absolutely loved that guitar, but I've always liked how the strat is so versatile

and nice choice with the gretsch

I'm itchin hard for it right now.

I'm not going to buy another strat any time soon. My Starcaster Strat still plays better than any other strat I've played, regardless of where it was made or the name on the headstock.

I just put some new strings on my Strat. My new favorite strings are now GHS Boomer .11s and i also got a new amp and a ts9 tubescreamer on the way. This is going to be a good month.

Ernie ball hybrids FTW!

but seriously I'm not picky about strings, I just like the hybrid layout
