Ernie Ball regular slinkys are perfect for me.
I've just got the hang of pinch harmonics properly, it's cool but I just want to be able to do them for the sake of doing them. And to whip them out Dave Gilmour style in a solo, just do add something different.
I'm so jealous of my friend right now, he asked out the hottest girl I have ever seen :liplick: and she said yes  ... Well played to him though, he's a good guy. :)

Not bad at all. Don't know which one of them sings like Cave, but nevertheless, very interesting.
EDIT - Found the guy who sounds like Cave :)
The whole song, I think it's called Did I Damage You, is very reminiscent of Cave's stuff...Actually the whole tune reminds me of the Red Right Hand or Do You Love Me from Let Love In.

I think a reso will be my next purchase, then I'll continue my Esquire collecting, and another acoustic for alternate tuning stuff somewhere down the line.
I think when I go back home to Aus I'm gonna buy a load of tools to build guitars and make some wacky inventions, see if I'm any good at it. I have a whole folder of Kisekae's for inspiration.

Hey Carswell (I always forget people's real names), thanks for the profile comment, I do quite like my current gear setup but would love my Thunderverb back.
Anyone got any recommendations for a good album to get, some kind of solo blues artist preferably, something like seasick steve or that JMT guy or similar? I'm fresh out of ideas at the moment.
David Viner, The Soledad Brothers, 22-20s, Blanche, The Gories and JET.
I'm really digging old garage music again, like The Sonics. Love that band.

I can't find them anywhere, and Zavvi + HMV won't get them in... But if you like them check out The Fuzztones, The Gories, The Soledad Brothers, The Greenhornes and Blanche.
However, I've heard all of two albums. Here Come The Sonics and Sonic Boom. Both albums are ****ing fantastic. :)

I always seem to greavitate towards Australian blues more than US, UK, wherever else.. I think it definitely has it's own chilled out feel to it, and we definitely have some of the best players/singers in the world, just a shame they can't get as much exposure as all the USA guys.
If anyone's interested I've been thinking about making a list thread of just Australian blues artists/bands.. Just not sure if it would be okay since there is already the 'definitive list' but I'd rather have one strictly for Australians.. Would like to promote the scene a bit more and the also if anyone else finds good people I don't know yet then I get a bonus of having someone new to listen to.
Should I do it? Would anyone even read it?

Will start drafting one up tomorrow, gimme a few days to get it done. Probably won't divide it into states though..
Probably just will have artist names - musical style - link to website/myspace and maybe some suggested tracks or albums.. Don't want it too complicated.

The one I'm trying to put together is like a Garage-Rock-Blues type thing.

A program that is on the BBC , a presenter/pianist called Jools Holland has bands play on his show every friday. This is apparently a compilation of ones considered guitar heroes.
TheDev01dOne
10-12-2008, 11:26 AM
That guitar heroes thing was pretty good, some boring stuff like Jeff Beck and Radiohead and Pete Townsend (BTW was that a Tiny Terror behind him? It looked a lot like one but it was way back in 96?)
The rest were sweet though, Jack White and Seasick Steve were probably the best IMO.
I hated that Jack white song, lol. The Jeff Beck was dull, Radiohead are always dull, pete townsend got a good sound but did nothing interesting.
Buddy guy was, of course, awesome. lol

There were far better Stripes performances from Jools Holland, like Fell In Love With a Girl from 2001, which then went into Lets Shake Hands. Or theres Hotel Yorba, but i would've chosen a Rac's performance rather than the Stripes.
Me and my brother were joking about Froosh's pedal board, he'd have to do the splits to use it!

Pine body, I'm sure they aren't very good...Most furniture is made of pine, it's not a tone wood.
All the early Fender prototypes were made out of pine and it is a perfectly good tone wood. A lot of Tele afficianados swear by custom made pine bodied Telecasters, people like Arlo West and Bill Lawrence.
Tone is subjective anyway but the idea is that pine is so light and airy it has a very open sound and great natural harmonics. With a Tele bridge being so hefty there' not much decreased sustain or anything, especially if it's a good piece of slow growth pine..
I would tell you to go try one and be amazed but you're in UK too right?

I love my Squier so I'm biased. But yeah the build and hardware are good quality, as with most guitars even high end fenders you might want to upgrade the pickups/electronics to get the sound you want but it's not necessary, just test a load before picking one and make sure you get the best one.

Will have a look around and see what I can find then.
Have started desiging the 'art' for the case I'm gonna paint.. I went with the, pretty predictable, idea of doing a kind of psychedelic, Syd Barrett theme.. This is what I have so far..
http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh5/TheDev01dOne/MIJ%2062%20Custom%20Esquire/PICT0442.jpg
I'm gonna paint the whole case a few different pale-ish colours like violet and maybe a light reddish colour and stuff (Blending them somehow..) Then stencil on the silhouette of his head in black over the top.. Then I'm gonna extend his afro hair out in crazy swirly patterns and then inside the swirly patterns randomly add these bugs he drew for the cover of his album 'Barrett'..
http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/cc272/djoci/album%20covers/Barrett.jpg
Then I'm gonna do the Telecaster headstock shape next to him that says 'Shine On' in bubbly writing, it's gonna have thick black outlines and the inside will have it's own brighter psychedelic patterns in like fluro colours..
That's all I got so far, I can't think of what to put in the 'neck' bit of the case since it's so skinny and awkward.
I dunno.. What do you guys think? Use your imagination to envision it finished..
mas0n
10-16-2008, 01:46 PM
These letters don't really look that psychedelic...There are some good professional funky fonts out there, find them and stencil them out. I can picture the swirls coming out of the afro, and that would be a cool thing to extend to the neck part, maybe make them thinner as you come up the neck to get some sort of perspective effect. Just throwing ideas around, I like this kinda stuff...What I would do, is make some sort of sketch in Photoshop. It's useful just to have your ideas in one place :)
TheDev01dOne
10-16-2008, 01:49 PM
I like the writing, will keep it for now and see if it turns out how I expect, if not I can always change it. And if I owned/could use photoshop I would design it in there but I'm afraid my graphic designing skills don't get much more advanced than a pensil and paper.
Thanks for the feedback though. Hopefully will finish designing it and start painting it by next week.

Halloween costume idea: Sloppy drunk.
Cost: $20 for a bottle of bourbon
Prep time: 2 hours or so.
Have fun.

Halloween (or the day after in my case) Party Idea:
The Horrors
Cost: Nothing, I already wear the same clothes as them due to the indie-ness of London.
Prep Time: 30 mins of hair straightening and gettings dressed, and a bit of mascara.
Epic fun, lots of chicks dig them, good music, booze.
And girls rule at my age. :p:
I got 4 groups of girl's numbers on the ferry to Calais. That's like 50 girl's numbers. WIN. There is no way I will ever bother calling them, I'm far too shy for that. I sat there in my coat and skinny jeans listening to Blind Lemon Jefferson and Charley Patton when they came up to me and my mate and they asked me if we liked Noah and The Whale (some wierd indie band it seems) to which I replied "What kinda music do you listen to?"
Irony.

Is anyone on here from texas? Well anyways, i just caught a show where it was kind of like a battle of the bands, and the winner will go to represent austin in the international blues fest or whatever in memphis. Anyways check out all the bands on this website, they all kicked ass live. This one dude came on stage and was playing with his teeth and behind his back, anyways link...

Are you like a hipster or something? :p:

If I was a hipster I would like Bloc Party and The Arctic Monkeys instead of Charley Patton and Skip James. :p:
I guess it's the way I dress. I'm not too pretentious though. I actually hate what is referred to in Britain as Indie. Garage Rock all the way for me, I guess it's the "indie ethic" kinda thing, but better music imo.

^ they sound better than the people where i live
Northern B.C. is filled with 3 groups, metalheads, country fans, and the others
I have never met another young person in B.C. that listened to anything bluesier than Jimi Hendrix

I should say I have no problem with them, it just really sucks not having groups of people you can relate to

Don't forget beaver hunters and Mounties.
Also: Not a hipster at all.
But US chicks tend to dig fereners (foreigners), so I figure UK chicks would dig a ferener as well.
I'd probably make them look pale in comparison.

What, SKIP JAMES ISN'T THE CURRENT TREND!? :wtf::
Where have I been the last 50-60 years :wtf:
Speaking of Skip James, this african guy has a very similar vocal style http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Eqz_4VShok
Knut, is the shiz nizzle btw. Caught him at the local Jazz festival last weekend, blew my mind. Not a lot of his electrical stuff on youtube, but if he comes to a place near you, go see him.
