See, I think it would be a really cool thing to represent people, but my problem would be dealing with all the partisan bull****. I could never, in good conscience, run for elective office as a member of either major party. And in almost all cases, third parties don't even make a dent in elections.

I know what you mean. I'm like everyone who doesn't have a religion, I hate the people that try to shove religion down your throat, but the people i hate the most are the ones that are always trying to bash religion, or shoving their belief that God does not exist down your throat. Hence, why half the metal genre is straight away alienated from me, not that i like the other half.

I saw an article in the New York Times the other day about an atheist ad campaign on buses in the UK. They put a sign saying "God Probably Doesn't Exist, so stop worrying about it" on the sdes of some buses.
Any of you British cats seen anything like that? I thought it was kind of funny.

I think the reason they put them up was there were loadsa Christian ones (I remember them being particularly bad). Despite being an (admittedly undevoted) catholic, I take exception to people trying to spread religion that way.

When you grow up with what passes for politics in Northern Ireland, where the majority vote depending on what religion they are and the extremist parties have the most elected officials, THAT's partisan bull****. I'm afraid I stopped voting a long time ago: a vote for the Green Party over here is a waste of time and the middle ground parties, such as they are, don't get a look in.

So I'm debating buying an Agile guitar. Apparently, they have great reputations for qualty. They look pretty nice too.

I know I'm a bit behind here but apparently Agile guitars are pretty good for the money. If you look on the electric guitar forum, there's loads of stuff on Agiles. We can't get them in the UK but I think thay're like the equivalent of our Vintage brand, maybe a bit better. Like I said, for the money supposed to be great.

Yeh, and I'd love an old Hofner (especially the semi-acoustic archtops)! I've been toying with the idea of getting one, similar to this one:
http://www.vintagehofner.co.uk/gallery/archtops/arch58.html
I'm not up on my old guitars though so I've always been weary in case of a warped neck, bad electrics and other faults and I could end up with a money pit on my hands. Still, I dream of getting one.

That Hofner is sweet looking. The Agile I posted looks a bit different, mostly because the horns are a bit shorter than typical I think.
And Kyle, are you sweatin about the Ravens at all? I think it'll be a close game. I would lean towards Baltimore, but I don't know about Flacco. He wasn't exactly impressive against Miami. No one seems to be respecting the Titans anymore...
TNfootballfan62
01-09-2009, 06:55 PM
The Ravens are a good team, so of course I'm worried, but you're right about no one respecting the Titans. Best record in the NFL, and they've already beat Pittsburgh, Baltimore, and Indy once. The last time Tennessee got disrespected this much heading into a football game was when Pittsburgh came to Tennessee. Everyone hailed the Steelers as the best team in the NFL and said the Titans would have no chance without Haynesworth and KVB; the Titans spanked them. I think this week could be similar, not to mention, we have our best player back on D.

Yeah, getting into football for the first time can be a little overwhelming. Especially if you're watching it with people that understand it. It really can take years to fully start to understand the subtleties of the game. And even then, I think a person who has only watched it and never played it (even though I only played at the high school level :p: ) can never fully appreciate the complexity of the sport.

I would highly encourage the heads here to try out arranging Coltrane's "Naima" (off Giant Steps) for guitar.
I've been working off the chord sheet for the song, and arranging it on guitar, and it sounds beautiful. It's not a terribly hard song, and since it is at a slow tempo, it isn't hard to address the chord changes on time (as opposed to say in "Giant Steps"!!), and does for a nice work-out.
Also it is well worth exploring the different colors that you can achieve by using non-standard chord shapes, because it really opens up a new vistas to solo over.
I'm personally working on arranging some tapped melodies with my right hand to go on top of the left hand chordal movements, and it just feels really cool having it work!
PS: I'm also beginning to believe that if you play this right on guitar to a woman, her bra is simply going to pop open, and her panties magically disappear. :p:

Nice! Yeh it's a super groove, but I've got an issue with that style of playing; it's very showy. There seems to be an ever increasing amount of players using this or a or similar style with harmonics, slapping the body and hands all over the place. Andy McKee comes to mind (to be fair, he's extremely good)! Looks impressive and sounds great but I get bored of the 'novelty' after a couple of minutes.

Hi braedon.
hey man, how've you been
about Durfour
I don't think the music is showy, it was developed to extract every bit of sound that could be coaxed from a single acoustic guitar, and I don't think all shred is showy either, as it follows the same reasoning. they actually play a specific genre called Heavy wood, and the harmonics, the slapping, and the tapping are just all part of it. being showy would come down to the artist, not just because they have chosen to play a style of music
I myself am not a huge durfour fan, my favorite heavy wood type player is Don Ross(also a canadian I might add :p: )

These are what i was looking at, http://accessories.musiciansfriend.com/product/Fender-Custom-Shop-Texas-Special-Tele-Pickups?sku=301620
But I think a humbucker as the neck pickup would sound better than those, so im also considering doing that.

Calm down, I was being a bit tongue in cheek.
I haven't researched the number of deaths, so I'll have to assume yours are accurate, but the fact of the matter is, Hamas has bombed Israel repeatedly. Do you think America or any other sovereign nation would take that without retaliation? Of course not. They invaded with plans of crippling Hamas's ability to bomb them again. I see absolutely no problem with that. They don't want the Gaza strip back or anything like that, they want to stop being bombed, and have decided to stop putting up with it.

My numbers are refering to Quassam rockets, not the total number of deaths on each side since 2001 (although Palestinian deaths are still much, much higher)
They stopped Hama's ability to bomb them again by attacking Mosques, cutting off supplies, destroying heavily populated areas, and violating international law? If they think that will get Palestinians to stop hating them, they've got another thing comin'
Wanna know why Palestinians hate them?
-0 Israeli homes have been demolished by Palestinians and 18,147 Palestinian homes have been demolished by Israel since 1967.
-123 Israeli children have been killed by Palestinians and 1,050 Palestinian children have been killed by Israelis since September 29, 2000.
-Israel currently has 223 Jewish-only settlements and ‘outposts’ built on confiscated Palestinian land. Palestinians do not have any settlements on Israeli land.
-For every 1 Israeli death in 2007 there were 25 Palestinian deaths
-8,341 Israelis and 33,034 Palestinians have been injured since September 29, 2000.
http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb105/gopherthegreat/israel-palestine_map.jpg?t=1232676487

TNfootballfan62
01-22-2009, 10:42 PM
^Cutting off supply lines is key in preventing bombing. You know, supplies like war supplies. From what I understand, the Mosque destruction is simply the destruction of a Hamas meeting places/whatever. Destruction in populated areas is going to happen in war.
What is going on there now sucks, for sure, but that's the tendency of war. It's not pretty. Israel is defending its nation from bombings. There was a cease-fire, but Hamas broke it. It's as simple as that. Is the destruction disproportionate? Maybe. But they are determined to end the bombing, and I don't see how anyone (with an unbiased opinion) could fault them for that. Do you think that America would sit by and let Canada or Mexico bomb us with no retaliation? No. After the first bomb, any other respected, sovereign nation would not think twice about retaliating, and very few people would question it.
gopherthegreat
01-22-2009, 10:56 PM
Did we go into Canada, part it, then slowly take over? Do we not let Canadians leave? Have we killed about 5 Canadians for every American killed? Are we confiscating Canadian land? Are we one of the top violators of the Geneva convention? Are we cutting off medical supplies? Have we killed about 9 Canadian children for every American child killed?
And last but not least, it is a violation of international law.
And Israel broke the ceasefire on November 4th, not Hamas.
TNfootballfan62
01-22-2009, 11:05 PM
No, we haven't done those things to Canada, but you don't honestly think that Hamas are victims and Israel are evil invaders, do you? You don't honestly think it's that simple? It doesn't take much to see that this conflict goes back a very long way and both parties have done a lot of things to put them at fault.
All I'm saying is, in this particular instance, Hamas bombed Israel, so Israel retaliated. It's that simple. Yes, Israel has killed many more people. That's not the point. The point is, Hamas bombed, so Israel is retaliating, just like any other country would do. If you want to go back farther into history, then this conversation gets much more complicated than most people are capable of comprehending.

I was standing in an aisle at barnes and nobles looking at Stephen King books, minding mah own business, when an employee walks up to me and starts talking. I shall type it out for you.
Employee: Hey, I see you have a Queers patch (my sweatshirt has a Queers patch on it)
Me: Ya, your into them?
Employee: Ya, they're my dads band.
Me: Seriously? (with a tone of surprise in my voice)
Employee: Ya, you know Wimpy?
Me: Ya, he sprayed a water bottle on me and the people around me when I saw them (I said this in a very lighthearted way)
Employee (with a big smile after I said that): Oh, really? What's your name?
Me: Logan, what's yours?
Employee: I'm Jack, nice to meet you!
*we shake hands*
Employee: See ya, man.
Me: Nice to meet you!
I felt that was a pretty neat experience (It makes sense seeing as how the Queers are from Portsmouth and Newington is right on Portsmouth's border).

Erhm, I've just had a laugh all day, and it's been good fun. Everyone was in a good mood, and I'm looking forward to playing some very badly rehearsed covers infront of 200 people on saturday :haha Nah, but it should all go well, we're sounding really tight and we've only played with this new drummer a couple of times.
And my family-life was going down hill, but seems to be on the mend, if not, there's no more arguing.

We were told we had 30 minutes, but we have 15.
So we picked the stuff we wanted to play the most. It will be: Are You Gonna be my girl by JET, Have Love will travel, and The Seeker with a drum solo (perhaps go into I Aint Superstitious, depending on how it's going) unless we change it a tad during our soundcheck. :)

Anyone else heard the sad news that John Martyn died today? I'm not really into acoustic singer/songwriters but John Martyn and Nick Drake are exceptions for me. John certainly poured his soul out in his songs. Very sad at only 60 years old. Solid Air is going on the turntable.

why would you put $70 tuners on a Squier? unless you were majorly moding the whole thing i guess.
i have never listeined to Martyn and after i listeined i think its alright defiently different, and i did like some of it, its very relaxing.

it was a serious cheapo so I did a bunch of work to it to make it passable, I insulated the cavity to cut back on hum, added 2 trem springs to make the trem as stiff as possible (because I don't use it, ever) and added the nice tuners to keep the strings in check
I'd consider the 80 or so bucks I spent well spent money to make the guitar playable, especially since I'm not going to be able to spend the money on a new one for a while
god I hate being broke ass :(
Martyn's music was very relaxing, some of the best chill out music out there if you ask me
edit- after a little digging I have discovered that grover replaces broken tuners no questions asked, so yay! :)

That's good news. I guess with such a big brand and such a big reputation riding with it, they can do that kind of thing.
Looking forward to today. Should be jokes. :) The lame thing is where we are playing is in London, but in a very suburban/private area, and there really is nothing around except parks and the schools grounds.

**** guys. Last night was ****ing incredible!
We opened with Are you gonna be my girl and have love.
Everything went ****ing brilliantly from the beginning. :D
Then we danced with some of the people we had brought along, sipped some beers, and chatted with people we had met. Then we went back on towards the end of the second half, playing The Seeker. I dropped my pick within seconds, whipped another out of my pocket just in time to keep everything right, and then the other guitarist dropped his :haha But yeah, The Seeker was ****ing amazing for us. We did the whole Libertines/Beatles-esq mic sharing (cheek to cheek), and at the end did a running jump across the stage to end it :haha All the gimmicks worked perfectly. :p:
It was amazingly organised (it was done by 14 year olds  ), but it was fairly small, so unfortunately we had to phone people up and tell them they couldn't come because it had sold out, because otherwise the insurance would be voided or something. It made about £1500. :D
Has anybody heard of Dickinson amps? Well basically, they are based about 5 mins from where we played, and about 10 minutes from where I live. And they very kindly gave us two prototype amps free of charge, for the night. :) Brilliant amps.

it's about 1500 people, the whole town had no power for about 3 days, but since my family lived out of town it took forever for the power company to get to us

^Them.
Alan Lomax stopped recording in 1959, I think. Many didn't start recording until into later life.
Leadbelly, Blind Willie McTell, Big Bill Broonzy, Honeyboy Edwards, Lightnin' Hopkins, Sam Chatmon, Ida Cox, JB Lenoir, Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee, "Queen" Victoria Spivey, Big Joe Turner and the legendary Booker White. :)
They aren't strictly delta, and not all from the 60s neccesarily. :) Hope I helped, and sorry I couldn't get back to you earlier. I've been out, as it was another snow day.

The only JB Lenoir recordings I have are some of his Chess recordings.
They're really amazing. He had something in his voice that really speaks to me, for some reason.
I also have some John Lee Hooker recordings that sound like Lightnin Hopkins is singing, but IDK, really.
