Right now, I'm leaning towards crypto-linguistics, aerial gunner apprentice, or flight mechanic. There might be a couple combat positions that seem interesting, but I'm not sure about them.
And Canned Heat does rock.

I've been a bit like that recently, not listening to much blues. But now I'm into Charley Patton because of his vocal style and the story telling in there. :) That's what always got me with delta blues, and is always why I go off blues for a couple of weeks and come back absolutely loving delta blues. :)

Oh, I love blues! Don't get me wrong, but I go through phases, and different types of blues.
It's kinda been like this:
Jeff Beck and Joe Bonamassa, Indie bands, then Charley Patton, then Mos Def, Charley Patton again, Muddy Waters, The Libertines, Blind Willie Johnson, Saul Williams. :)

I'm similar with music, I give certain areas a rest without noticing that I do, usually artists or genres. It's great because the music becomes fresh again next time round. The blues sticks with me though. Constant.

damn right, same here, i though might sometimes listen to other bands like pink floyd or the beetles but never straying from the blues. theres just so many different types of blues you can get board of one type and then come back to it but in the mean time just listen to some different blues.

I'm kind've in the same boat as Gus, maybe to a lesser extent, I just go through phases, sometimes I'll go a week listening to Classical, or Shred, or a lot of classic rock, or The Tragically Hip :headbang: but more often than not it's just a big mix of it all, with the majority being blues

I listen to a lot of different forms of music, but to me, as far as I'm concerned, it's blues in one way, shape or form.
Like I listen to a lot of Stoner metal/rock and sludge/doom metal. It's just a different facet of the same stone, really.

My gig went well. Uneventful, but well. Everything went as it should, but I don't enjoy playing on my own as much as I do with another person or with other people. Playing on your own forces you to focus on the music though, which I do enjoy if in the right frame of mind. :)
congrats

Wait, you don't have an electric for slide?
Nope. My electric has a brilliant action, that I don't want to fiddle with even the tiniest bit, so I can't play on that. Strictly acoustic for me, although I must say, I haven't played slide in a while. I've been getting back into Blind Willie McTell though - he has some brilliant lines:
"Give you a punch through that barbed wire fence,
Every time I hit you say I aint got no sense"
"Get me a brick outta my back yard,
Give you the devil if you get kinda hard"
"And If I catch you mama down in the heart of town,
Take me a brand new brick and tear your can on down"
"You may be deathbed sick mama graveyard bound,
I'm gonna make you moan like a graveyard hound"
"Might wiggle like a tadpole, let it jump like a frog,
Every time I hit you ya holler lawd lawd lawd"
And thats only from the one song! :p:

Can I get advice on a few things?
1. What would be your thoughts on getting a Danelectro, tuning it to G and using it for slide/Keith Richards-style G-tuned stuff/occasionally tuning it to E for twang?
2. I'm looking to learn slide. Any tips?
3. Every time I sit down in a music store, because of my appearance and age people expect me to be one of those asshole shredder-wannabe beginners that crank Spider III's with an EMG-equipped guitar sharp enough to make you need a license to carry a lethal weapon to buy it, and as such are surprised when I sit down in front of a Fender amp with a strat or tele, push the preamp into a slight overdrive, EQ it just right, and play some British blues. Any way I can kill this stereotype, at least when people look at me in a shop?

2. I'm a slide n00b myself, so I'm not much help.
3. Umm...stop looking like that? :haha I'd assume we are roughly the same age, and people don't generally look surprised when I sit down to play some blues. In reality, though, it really doesn't matter what they are expecting you to play, or if you surprise them at all.

****, just had the gig of my life, so far atleast.
In this "Irish" pub, that's usually pretty full every saturday.
We were just the second opener band, and the main act is this country artist, who is doing an acoustic set.
We just packed the place entirely. The crowd was just loving us soo hard, people were coming in from the street. There was even this metal head playing airdrums and flashing the horns in the front row :haha
My fingers are pretty much just shreds by now, as I actually ripped through my calluses. (How I ever thought playing an SRV was a good idea, beats me.)
Oh well, still feels great. We actually played through 99% of our repertoire as the crowd kept calling for more.

Yup. We're all pretty young as well, 3x 15 and 1x 17.
We play a mix up of all types of blues really, with roots mainly in the Delta Chicago and Texas styles. Add a drummer and bassist who've listened to a bit too much Zeppelin, and you have a good combination :haha

i have to learn a song for music performance that is part of our major assessment, we have to pick a technique and display it through that song, so i was thinking id do slide guitar as a technique and then play an old delta song, but...i cant find one because i need to show a farily high level of playing ability and im defiantly not downing the old delta guys but most of the stuff is kinda basic, as far as what my teacher is expecting, and repeats pretty often (if you know what i mean). so i was wondering if you guys can point me in the direction of a song that is of an advance level and with a slide i would be forever grateful, it doesn't have to be delta just any blues will suffice! especially goolz cos i know he is a slide guitar bluesman.

Fixed.
Also, Ry Cooder.
What I suggest you do is play a jazz song on slide. Something like a ballad. Maybe Blue in Green, or Naima, or Round Midnight (that'd be very difficult, though).
Or you could take another approach and do a gospel song like "Morning Train".

I've been so busy with everything. It is busy/exam week at school now, and my band just opened up for an event yesterday now we are prepping for the next battle of the bands. And I am training for the Boston Marathon.
Yesterday I twisted my ankle while carrying my amp down some stairs. Knowing me, I care about my amp for than I care about myself so I made sure I hurt myself instead haha. That should keep my training slow for the next few days...

For real, man.
I seriously can not get enough of this music, man. Every time I think I've heard it all, and I know the blues, I hear something new. Nothing in this world is better than hearing something you haven't heard before that gets your heart racing, or your foot tapping, or your head knodding, or your eyes crying. Nothing on this earth is better. And that is what the blues is.

The thing I love most is how it transcends the music itself.
IDK, when I was a kid, I would listen to the radio in the morning before school. I was living in Southern California, and the oldies station was 99.9 fm. Every day, I woke up and got ready for school with Steppenwolf, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Little Richard, Chuck Berry, Bo Diddly, James Brown, Curtis Mayfield and the Impressions, The Four Tops, and all that Motown stuff.
Then I started listening to Soul, like Earth Wind and Fire, The Commodores, etc.
And now, I realize that it's all really the same thing, deep down. Those blues roots run deep.

Rye is basically all we get up here, Canadian Club, Crown Royal and Wisers are our biggest brands of whiskey and they're all canadian made ryes
we also get some american whiskey up here, but not much
I hate J.D. with a fiery unrelenting passion, and that is one of the few american whiskeys we get up here
and I think the only bourbon I've ever had was Wild Turkey, which I can't even remember what I thought of it it's been so long since I had it last
I've never had a high quality scotch, just a couple of the cheaper brands
one of my new year's resolutions for the year is to buy a bottle of Glenfiddich 20 year old single malt, and cherish every last drop :liplick:

yeah that'd do it, thats what, about 50% by vol.?

Although if you're just looking to ge ****ty fast, I would suggest 4 shots of everclear mixed into a 20 oz. gatorade bottle, and filled with gatorade, and maybe some red bull if thats your thing.

For Irish Whiskey, I can't recommend Jameson's enough. And Glenlivet 15 yo is some of the smoothest single malt Scotch I've ever had. I've got just a little bit left and I'm saving it for a special occasion. Oh, and it should be drunk straight, no ice. Ice kills the taste of a good malt.
