It's pretty good, friend wise and everything. I'm doing 5 GCSEs early, but because I'm the youngest in the year, it's effectively two years early. That's not going badly :). I've got 3 gigs lined up to go to next month:

The Horrors
AC/DC
BB King and John Mayall

:D:D:D

Are you in work currently?

Me and a friend went to this vintage guitar shop today. It was semi-closed. :p: But in the window was a Watkins Copicat tape echo, a Roland Space Echo, a CBS strat, a RI sunburst tele of some sorts, an unfinished Jazzmaster. Inside, we spied an Orange Rockerverb combo, a silverface twin, a brown faced princeton, a tweed twin, a silverface musicmaster bass, a silverface champ.... So many amazing guitars in there...

hey :)
Nope I didn't take music, my school is firmly rooted in classical, choral and orchestral music, which to be honest: I can't stand much more of.
Right now I'm doing English Language, English lit, Maths, French and RS.
Next year I have:
Spanish (start the course in about two weeks), Biology, Physics, Chemistry, History, Geography, as well as AS Maths and AS English Language. :o

I bet you did :D
Well, the OCD is pure sex imho. But, I'm running it through a Fender BJr. I can see why it'd feel a tad pointless through a Superlead :p:

And, Ze Monsta. Spanish is hellish
But, now I'm finished with Maths and Spanish forever

Yeah the DL4, it's amazing it really is. You can have 3 presets on it which i love as it saves a lot of messing with the knobs. I got stung badly by import tax though, i bought it for £130 off ebay in USA but then the wonderful tax man charged me an extra £46 to get it here, making it completely not worth my while getting it from America. But I say save for it, you won't regret it.

I've been to Spain for two weeks, and a few odd days whilst we were just over the boarder in south of france. I picked up a fair bit, in that time, but I can't remember anything anymore :haha
I'm awful with languages anyway. :p: Apparently the teacher is horrible as well...

Matt, what does the Keeley mod on the Boss TR2 do? I'm getting into tremolo right now. A lot.

matt92l
05-26-2009, 04:54 PM
The Keeley mod in the tremolo gives it a separate volume knob which means you can almost use it as a clean boost. It also makes it slightly more bassy to iron out the thin-ness of it, but to be honest, unless your Eric Johnson (who can name the make of batteries just by playing a pedal) it wont really matter that much.

I finishes my spanish exam last week, god was I glad it was over. Stick with english, so much easier.

I need something new man, and I can always count on you for a solid rec.

I'm going insane without something new to listen to, I'll dl it over at my friends house with his high speed.

I've been listening to that Orange Goblin album you recommended me a while back quite a lot recently,

and how are you doing man, whats new?

I'd reccommend getting some Sean Costello, just been really in love with his work recently. I guess his songs just fits my mood, as of late. Gotta love a bit of soul... It's all the blues anyways.

The best CoC album is Deliverance, but I like all of them, even the older, hardcore stuff. Check out the America's Volume Dealer; Warren Haynes plays slide on one of the songs on that album.

Baroness is ****ing killer. Quickly becoming one of my favorite bands.

Spotify is a brilliant music streaming service, which is free (You have to get an invite, though). And has massive ammounts of music up. It has pr. Lotsetty much all the Chess recordings, etc etc. Lots of every genre, aswell.

Maybe more popular in Europe, I dunno.

Has anyone got any experience of Lipstick pick ups in a Strat, I know SRV used them occasionally, but can anyone tell me if they are excessively noisy etc. Thought I'd ask here as anywhere else I would just get the 'stick a high out put humbucker in it' argument off all the metalheads.
See I want to stick some in a white MIM strat that I've got my eye on, and think it would just be awesome.

Thanks in advance.

That album is definitely worth buying.

Aberdeen would be the name of either the Stoner/Sludge/Blues metal band that I want to do, or the Garage/Blues band that I want to do. Me and my brother already decided that we're going to do a 2 piece thing, so that might be what I go with.

That is about as sad as it is funny.

Heh, well. I can see how that works out.
But, really. Imo, that is the way the blues needs to be sung. You just need to find that middle ground.

Had a very interesting chat today, starting out about how todays modern instruments aren't properly tuned. (Equally Tempered Tuning system, etc. Very fascinating subject.) And ended up discussing a wide array of topics. Long story short, he mentioned and told me about how a lot of the original Black blues artists had Irish trait, due to the slavery of them etc. He pointed out of how many of them, had a mixed ethnicity.
Very fascinating, just look at Muddy etc. It's pretty obvious that he has som different heirs.

What do you guys think? Pretty fascinating stuff, imho.

Me and a friend who I haven't been in a band with yet are just looking for a drummer and we'll be set...But the drummers who told us were interested are friends of ours, and then suddenly said they didn't want to drum for us... And the guitarist of my old band, who I'm best mates with, is trying to start a band with both the drummers we were interested in (one of them also plays guitar), but that isn't actually gonna happen - it was just a rebound kind of thing after I told him I couldn't be ****ed with him anymore (this problem goes way back, with a lot of people that know him). gah...

That's a b**tard. I can't stand people who say one thing then go off doing the other, it's rubbish. It's all part of the band-making process though I guess. I know how difficult it is to get more than two people in the same place at the same time just to jam on a one-off, let alone thinking of gigging! I'll need to get to a city to have a chance of forming/joining a band.

I'm sure it'll all sort out. Keeping at it is the key I guess!

^If conservatives were smart, they'd be trying to scoop up all those middle of the road types who might be getting a little fed up with Obama.

But instead they are handing the party over to blowhards like Limbaugh. And you would think that Republicans would handle Cheney like toxic waste but that doesn't seem to happening...

Not that I really identify with either side. They're all crooks.

TNfootballfan62
06-15-2009, 08:07 PM
^Conservatives don't need to scoot to the middle to pick up middle of the road voters, Obama is going to push them all conservative. :haha Also, the republicans had a middle of the road president for the last 8 years, look how that turned out. I think it's important for conservatives to stick to their conservative principles right now. They need to make sure the lines in the sand between them and the ultra-liberals are crystal clear.

And no one has handed the party to Limbaugh. He's a talk show radio personality. I'm also not sure what you mean by "handling" Cheney. He's a grown man. He can make a speech if he wants to. That said, I believe his latest speech that was on around the same time as Obama's spanked the pants of Obama's speech.

slidething31
06-15-2009, 08:22 PM
^ I'm not really trying to argue, but whether you like it or not, right now with the general public, Rush Limbaugh, Dick Cheney, and Gingrich are the most identifiable Republican "leaders".

Yes, Limbaugh is a radio personality. He says what he says because that is what gets him paid. He is in the entertainment business. But for some reason, a large segment of the population takes him as representative of the GOP.

As far as Cheney, I was merely saying that one might think it would be in the party's interest to distance themselves from such a controversial figure.

Just as a qualifier here; for the most part, I would say I agree with general conservative economic principles.

pak1351
06-15-2009, 08:32 PM
uh-oh.

To be fair, I don't like the republican 'leaders' nor the democratic 'leaders'. They tend to be the people who always have something to bitch about, and the media assumes that since they talk all the time, they're views are representative of their party as a whole. I'm a conservative and cringe when people call limbaugh, Dick or Ginrich the leaders. At the same time, I can't see how Pelosi or Barney Frank can be considered good leaders for the democratic party. They're all just larger attention whores than your average politician (and that's saying something)

TNfootballfan62
06-15-2009, 08:45 PM
The only people that consider Limbaugh the leader of the republican party are MSNBC and people who are looking for someone on the right to bash (even if that's a bit redundant). He speaks the minds of many conservatives, yes, if maybe in a more forceful way, but he in no way is the leader of the party. Especially not to conservative politicians.

Also, Limbaugh bashers should listen to his program before jumping to such harsh criticisms. Most of his critics slam him based on the 10 second clips played by liberal media without actually listening to everything he has to say.

I don't approve of what Bush and Cheney did in America on a lot of issues, but right now, Dick Cheney is only in the spotlight because of him speaking out about foreign policy. I'll take Bush's and Cheney's foreign policy over Obama's any day personally. Most conservatives don't disagree with them on that level, just on others, like fiscal responsibility.

And I don't mind Gingrich at all, from listening to what he's had to say lately. If you're going to dislike a politician, try to dislike him based on his policy, not on his past associations. Same could be said for Cheney, though.

The real problem with the Republican party is the lack of strong leadership right now. There isn't a person the party can look to as it's main spokesperson, really. We'll have to wait for the next round of presidential campaigning to come around for that to happen.

Agreed. Republicans haven't been truly conservative since before Bush's presidency, as a whole. There are some conservatives (Marsha Blackburn, Tennessee Congresswoman, for instance), who are and pretty much always have been conservative, though. And most politicians may be money hungry and dishonest, but to say that they're ALL that way, and to include "white collar execs" (which is a lot of people, really) in with that group, is an untrue generalization. A lot of white collar execs are philanthropists, for instance.

And I don't care about tags. If a conservative is a Republican, I'll vote for him. If a 3rd party member is a conservative, I'll vote for him. I'm not sure why someone calling themselves a Republican puts you off so much, if they agree with your beliefs.

The problem with the two main brands is the often fierce partisanship that they engender.

You say you would vote for anyone of any party who espouses conservative principles, but an overwhelming amount of people do the opposite. Oftentimes they vote for whoever shares their label and are too lazy to really investigate that person's principles.

But hey, it's the system we've got. The way I see it there are two choices, try to do something to change it, or try to use it in your own advantage.

Call me selfish, but I'll be looking out for numero uno. :)

I bought a carbide grit hacksaw blade for like 4 bucks and used it to saw most of the way through, then held a lighter flame on the cut for 30 seconds or so. Then plunged it in to some cold water and gave it a little tap. It broke off very easily. Some wet/dry sand paper smoothed the sharp edges right out.

^Beyond Youth played last night. It was the first night this year we played without the buzz and hum gremlin. We set up for rehearsal, no noise but set up to play out, buzz and hum like crazy. Some one must have stepped on the little b@st@rd last night during sound check. The show was clean.

The Black Keys are winnn. I'm enjoying lotsa garage and blues influenced rock right now. :)
The Stems being particularly high up the rankings today.

That is a nice guitar, Kyle. I'm usually not that fond of those kinda strats, but the grain is really nice on that one. I'd put a different coloured pickguard on personally, but that's me. :p:

I just have to get this out.

The amount of coverage about Michael Jackson sickens me. I enjoy some of his music, and his musical influence and talent is undeniable.

But it's not merely his music being celebrated, but his person. And that disgusts me.

Although he was never convicted, he did pay settlements in association with child molestation charges. That type of crime (which I know it hasn't been proved against him) is the most vile of all crimes, and I just hate to see him, as a person, celebrated with such enthusiasm.

And slidething, I agree. It's comparable to how Princess Diana was celebrated in the UK. Still, it pushed a terribly annoying overplayed song named "Fairytale", which won the Eurrosong contest, that's been overplayed for ages.

Nah I'm pretty critical of myself, specially when playing the blues, I'm not horn blowing ><

Libertine: I assume you want acoustic blues in standard tuning? If you want to get it sounding right you've gotta start getting your thumb playing the bass while you finger pick the chords/melody

Depending how much you know, you should probably give just a straight shuffle a go, something like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ry8IAL1o3R4&feature=related

It's all about getting that timing right and getting a laid back groove

Oh and even though you probably have no idea who I am, you can take my advice seriously, I've been playing blues for a while. I would start out learning how the 12 bar form works and the blues scale in its first "box." The blues isn't so much about learning songs as it is about learning the blues. If you need help with either of those 2, just let me know and I can give you a hand.

I didn't really know where to ask so I thought I'd try here.

I was wondering if beating up your guitar like SRV or Rory Gallagher would ruin the internal electronics or pickups. I know the damage that the neck can receive, but do the electronics get ruined as well? I don't wanna play hard and get carried away and and destroy some nice pickups.

TNfootballfan62
07-16-2009, 09:09 PM
Just playing hard, etc, that leads to your guitar getting physically beat up won't hurt your electronics at all. Switches or pots can wear out, but that doesn't really have much to do with your playing.

Pickups are nearly indestructible, from just normal playing. You'd have to be trying to hurt them, in most cases, haha.

Jackal58
07-17-2009, 01:35 AM
Switches and pots break/wearout. Pups fade away. Unless you're intentionally pounding on them you won't do any damage but they won't last forever either.

you should try keep the bass not going on smokestack, it's driving rhythm is what makes it powerful ;p

on Jack of Diamonds it sounds like you need to work on getting your thumb picking independently cause it sounds like you're just picking at the same time as what ever lead notes you're playing, i did like this track though ;]

The way I played Smokestack lightning was purposeful. I can play it (close to) how Hubert Sumlin plays it, but I was going more for the Gov't Mule bootleg version I heard a while back, so that it feels more laid back and less driving.

Hey guys. :) Goolz, I did listen, the other day but forgot to comment. > . <
I liked the feel of God Don't Like Ugly, brilliant guitar playing, but the vocals were a little weak in some spots, I thought the lyrics were pretty good. Excellent job on that one.
I liked Jack of Diamonds, a little more work on your fingerpicking and making your thumb independent there would make it way more fluent. Your vocal style worked well on here.
I quite liked how you did Smokestack Lightning, the vocals could do with a little work as usual. That's always my complaint with you. :p:

At my friend's house (he's Gilmourish on UG) playing guitar and stuff, and we were in his attic for one reason or another. And I see the back of a guitar headstock poking out from behind some boxes and I'm like "what's this? a classical guitar?" and pull it out and look what I find!

That's not the exact one, but it's pretty much identical but for more wear and tear, and an incredibly rusty bridge.

It's a 1940s Martin Coletti parlour. :) Sounds fantastic. We picked up some strings for it, and put in Open D, coz that's as much tension as the neck will take we think :haha The neck is pretty warped. And no truss rod. :(

Thanks man, I appreciate it :). However, my critic was everything but constructive. In fact, my original post was very offensive so I edited it. Dear god I hope nobody saw it :o. You see, I really love Bob Marley :haha.
As I said, it's a very hard song, but you should focus on keeping your voice in tune with that song.
<Tone deaf.

Not really, I just suck at singing in context.

And I really, really love Bob Marley, too

It's ok, last year I tried to sing so I used to grab my guitar and just sing songs. Me and my brother share our room. My brother ended up crying asking me to stop, and that's when my singing career ended. True story.

Lonesome. I'm sitting here in my dark room, drinking coffee and smoking 40 cigarettes each night.

Soon, though, I'll be coverin the waterfront ;)

Anyway, I'm finally 21, so I've been drinking since July.

No it's not

And drinking is still fun. It'd be even more fun in Nevada (legal age of consent is 16 there :poke: ) lol.

And I've got some new pickups in teh strat, and I'm waiting on the neck for a project guitar. Trying to get a Homebrew Dos Mos.
