but it's true, only a small fraction of the threads are funny, and it's a pain using firefox to log in and out since it keeps various cookies and whatnot :p:

I don't have the money, that's the problem! The bass was for my girlfriend though and her dad payed half when we got home.
I'm seriously seriously bad at spending money though, I just do it without thinking, buying stuff here and there. I hate saving money I don't see the point really unless I'm just saving to have enough to spend on something expensive. Life's too short not to buy things you like.
Now that I have a job though I should be able to do a bit more spending. There's loads of things I want to buy, the list goes something like..
Budda Wah, Booteek OD pedal, some good good quality cables, about 5 new marine band harmonicas, need one of my guitars set up properly by a luthier, want another small bodied acoustic, or possibly a resonator for slide playing. Want a £1200 hand-built acoustic from Rob Armstrong before I go back to Australia, want to do a relic blackguard Tele build and I want a Gibson-y guitar maybe a non-reverse firebird or something cool like that..
Yep I need about 7 more jobs now and I'll be on easy street.

it doesn't sound too great tbh, but i'm not bothered with my metal tone, i just need to improve my speed/accuracy/whateveryouwanttocallit and then i can play blues/shred/fusion ;) ;) i've been practising the first four bars of scarified for three days straight now, and it's getting there :o

well, i saw central park, which was really fun. i also saw a lot of street performers, including people playing motown music, and people playing gypsy jazz. the mototown guys were especially good. i also saw some guys who were breakdancing, and they were great. they did all kinds of cool dance stuff, but for the final thing they did, one of them did a front flip over 5 people! (the people were leaning over to make themselves shorter, but it was still amazing)

Yeah I have the box set of all 7, they're great I've watched them all about 5 times over probably. One of them ****s up though I have to re-buy it. Definitely worth the money though, great DVDs with cool rare footage and stuff. I haven't even looked at any of the special features yet.

As someone who's been trying to write songs lately it's become really evident that everything I would have to write about seems really trivial compared to all the old great blues songs, and anything that wasn't trivial has been done to death already. I'm finding it really difficult to write a good honest blues song without having to either exaggerate stuff alot to get the full effect into the song, or resorting back to the old cliched stadard blues themes and just adding a bit of my own thoughts/style/my own take on it kinda thing.
Makes me kinda sad really, the world is a changing place and although old blues, IMO, will remain timeless and will always be relevant, creating something new that can stand up with the old standards without being cliched, or without being trivial or without being exaggerated is really quite difficult already. I'm really not sure where the blues is headed for in the future.

I have to disagree. I think that blues is taking your own problems no matter how big or small, and turning them into music. The blues will always live on, as long as any humans have problems to deal with. The problems don't have to be huge, but as long as there are problems, there will be blues. Just my thoughts.

Most of the time when I write a blues song i make it either ironically over the top or just dumb for humor.... :(
A few examples:
"Woke up this morning, everyone died, I wasn't sad not a tear I cried."
"Woke up this afternoon couldn't find no matching socks, Woke up this afternoon couldn't find no matching socks, That's alright I decided to wear my crocs."
"If the river was whiskey and I was a duck, if the river was whiskey and I was a duck, I'd be underage and I'd be out of luck"
I know, I am a genius :o

Was it the original French connection or the remake? The original is better than the remake as far as I can remember.. Great car chase, one of the best ever probably.
I've (hopefully) decided that since I now have a job I'm gonna save up £1200 to buy a hand-made acoustic guitar from a guy my GFs dad knows, Rob Armtrong, so I can take it home and like even if I never come back I'll alway have something to remember it. Not to mention this guy makes some of THE best acoustic instruments in the world. My GFs dad has a mandocello made by him with like a solid brazilian rosewood back and sides and neck and it sounds amazing. And he has an acoustic doubleneck 6/12 string from the 70s made by the guy that is honestly the nicest sounding acoustic guitar I've ever heard.

Wow, incredible statement from my friend on msn, after only really playing blues licks and stuff:
I don't like playing blues, I'd rather play like Slash.
The dude doesn't even listen to GnR...I'm shocked and appalled...seriously.
MONSTA EDIT:
The guys in my band are my best friends, and I'd hate to have a falling out over something as trivial as music, but I'm seriously thinking of leaving them :( , and asking some guys 3 years older than me if I can join their band...Because they play blues, and that's what I wanna do... But I think i should wait, but today the other guitarist in their band said he thought I was really good, and should play more blues stuff...so I was like "yeah, thanks for the advise. See ya around" and I really got me thinking...

I actually think the reason they don't wanna play blues is that they're scared of it.
I seriously think it's too deep for them, but the most annoying thing is the bassist has this thing about pretending to be really mellow on stuff, but he's really not. :( And I know the guitarist is scared of it, it really is a case of the old blues players scaring the rich white kids. :p:

If I'm looking for older Delta stuff usually they have 'complete recordings' or 'complete discography' and I just get them.
I love the random bargain bin like $2 blues compilations you find though at random shops.. Sometimes they have really hard to find tracks on them or just a really obscure artist that you've never heard of. If I see them anywhere I usually buy them, I think I have about 30 random blues compilation CDs.

Man I had some ****ed up dreams last night. At one point I remember someone handing me a '54 Esquire to play and I probably jizzed in my pants.

what happened?
Kind of a long story. We worked it out though so I'm feelin better today.
2 good things did happen yesterday though.
1. I bought a bass
2. I put an ad on craigslist looking for people just to jam with and some guy that plays rhythym and sings who also has a drummer is wanting me to come meet him ab joining up with the band to play lead. He says he's already had 2 offers for record deals. He also says he knows he can get gigs pretty regularly. I'm not sure what to make of it. I made sure he knew that I'm an upper intermediate guitarist and not some guitar god.
Their musical tastes are a bit different from mine but I just like playing. I like a wide range of music so I like playing with just about anyone.
I'll probably just meet up with him and see whats up.

My face was like this > Then I put on some Broonzy and he recognised it, and said "Oh yeah, I saw Big Bill as well. And I saw Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee on the same bill."

I read somewhere, a quote from Geezer Butler
'Poison and Warrant are about as metal as The Backstreet Boys'
Just thought I would say that.
Crue is pretty good though, Smokin in the Boys Room even has a harp solo in it.
And Cherry Pie is a Warrant tune.
Yeah, I know that. I just posted the video, and I thought that everyone knew that it was Warrant so I didn't bother typing it.

So.
I'm looking for a car at the moment
I think I've settled on this
http://www.canadiandriver.com/articles/jc/images/94subaru_legacy.jpg
a 1993 subaru legacy, because I used to own one (a wagon) and it was a blast to drive
5 speed manual, 2.2l boxer engine, 4 wheel drive, I hope I get to it in time.
anybody have any other suggestions?, I have about 3 grand to spend

duuuuude
I've been down that road, and I shall not again
*shudders*
not until I can afford an '02
I ****ing hated/loved that car (mostly hated though)
I still think it's creepy you drive the exact same car that I did :p:

can't remember what I paid for mine, (wasn't a lot though :haha )
that car was so ****ed by the time I sold it, I gave it a week before it fell apart, and sure enough, it did.
oh and added incentive, this is what my subie wagon used sound like :liplick:

what was wrong with it? mine runs good
hmmm, ok
- T Tops leaked
- oil leaked
- hatch struts were ****ed
- back window leaked
- exhaust manifold cracked
- water pump blew, and the car subsequently overheated
- constantly blew fuses
- and to top it all off, a week before I sold it, the tranny mounst blew, so the only think supporting the transmission was the engine :haha

04-11-2008, 02:21 AM
Cracked exhaust manifold=car death. Add tranny problems and moar death.
I blew my waterpump coming over a mountain pass... but it didn't overheat. I put a new one in though. I also had a crack in my heater core, which was a bitch to replace. I will never sell the thing though.
Seriously though, get a 1995 Toyota Tercel with the 2.0. It gets insane mileage.

well I never had tranny problems per se, just that my transmission didn't exactly wish to remain part of my firebird :haha
the thing about a tercel is, I'm trying to compromise balls with mileage, and a tercel gets a 9 on the mileage scale, and about a 2 on the balls scale :p:
and at least the 4wd and manual tranny in the subie will let me have some fun
imgooley
04-11-2008, 02:38 AM
The Tercel has a 4 speed manual, slap a new pipe and TRD decals, new rims and balls factor goes up to 6.
My neighbor had one that was a beast of a economy car, sold it for 1500 bucks with all the stuff added to it.

not all the decals and chrome in the world will give that car what it needs :haha
they are excellent on fuel though.
I just need a little power.
I don't know, I have a thing for cars, always have... I guess it's in my blood, my Dad was an Auto Mechanic, and my Step-Dad is a Heavy Duty Mechanic. :haha

Jettas are nice, reliable, they tend to be a little pricey though
have you ever noticed that Jetta owners tend to be... er... different?
they say a Jetta owner is 48% more likely to go hiking or do yoga than owners of other cars, there was a commercial about that a while back.

04-11-2008, 02:49 AM
That be bullshiit my friend.
I have seen Jettas go for under three grand, so it's do able. The only Subaru that I like is the Imprezza, so that's why I am going against the legacy, especially since it's a wagon.
Also, why not get an old Tacoma or Sonoma/S10? Or do you need a car?

no no, the Legacy I used to have was a wagon, the one I'm looking at is a sedan
hmm, I'll look for some VWs, but around here, the cheap ones are like, '93s or earlier, and they are rusty as **** :p:
I actually used to own an '89 ford Ranger as well, but I don't really need/want a truck, if I do need one, I'll just steal my mom's... a 4 door, long box, 1 ton, diesel Ford :haha

it's not to bad, because they don't salt roads here like they do in B.C., so cars are far less rusty here.

I hate my roommate.
I'm listening to Magic Sam right now, literally, on the lowest possible setting of my computer speakers, and he has the ****ing nerve to come to my room, and say I'm being too noisy, and that the people below me can hear it.
now, my typing, is literally louder than the speaker volume at this point. jesus christ.
I am really trying hard to keep peace with 3 people living in this apartment, but if this happens again, I'm going to ****ing lose it.
earlier he accused me of wrecking a frying pan, something I'm neither stupid nor careless enough to do.

Mine is blue though, waiting to be resprayed gun-metal grey. And it will never have horrible wheels like that one has.

Technically Holdens are GM cars anyway. They used a lot of their parts and ****, Chev engines bolt straight in, the upper end high performance models came with them stock.
It's just GMH instead of GMC.
How aboot a pic of your Firebird? Pretty good blues car I gotta say. Probably can't fit many amps/drumkits/PA systems in the back though.

I don't have a pic of MY firebird currently, but I can get one in the morning.
I can fit all of my gear in the back. The funny thing is that when I moved from Sacramento to Irvine, I put all of my belongings in it and set off. I had the sucker full to the brim.

Ha, that's why I have a 2.8 V6. Good on gas and power.
I had no trouble getting over one of the toughest mountain passes in California.
TheDev01dOne
04-11-2008, 08:50 AM
I'm still not decided what engine to put in mine. Dad wants a 5.0L V8 but I think I want to get it all modified for a 3L EFI V6 out of a newer car, which will give me plenty of power and be cheaper on petrol. Just depends on $$ really, I might run the old ****ty engine in it for a while to give me time to save some cash for the engine work.
imgooley
04-11-2008, 08:52 AM
Well since it runs GM parts and engines, why not drop a 3.8 from a Camaro or similar car in it?
TheDev01dOne
04-11-2008, 09:00 AM
Too hard to find in Aus. The engine I want is out of a Holden Commodore which is probably the most popular family sedan in the country and also happens to go damn hard so they're easy to find, easy to get parts, easy to fix and easy to modify. They make kits for the engine conversion so I just need an engine, we had one when I left but dad might've sold it, the conversion kit, a mechanic and the hard part is finding a 5spd gearbox for it, because 90% of them are automatics.
imgooley
04-11-2008, 09:05 AM
Well, does Holden make sports cars?
syk3d
04-11-2008, 09:09 AM

If it weren't for holden, you wouldn't have your current Pontiac GTOs!
Yes, Holden make sports cars :)
TheDev01dOne
04-11-2008, 09:10 AM
depends what defines a sport car.. They make more like muscle cars I guess, their top of the range cars are like 6L V8 sedans. Same cars that my engine is coming out of though, they just upgrade engines for more expensive models.
imgooley
04-11-2008, 09:18 AM
Ok, so why not swap a nice V6 and sport tranny for your current powertrain? It's an older car, so why put mussed up electronics that are pretty much useless into it?
TheDev01dOne
04-11-2008, 09:56 AM
Better reliability and cheaper fuel economy. They never made NA V6 motors, they all had inline 6s that evenually got electronic fuel injection and then they swapped out to more modern EFI V6 motors.
I could hot up the engine it has in it now but for the price it'll cost for the upgrades, plus all the extra fuel it will use, it's cheaper and quicker to put in a modern engine, which will also give me the same amount of power as the old engine if I worked that anyway.
Then if I feel like it I can work the newer engine to get even more power out of it. I probably won't though, I just want something that looks nice and is reliable enough to drive everyday.
We have another of the same car that we bought for parts for mine, after we're finished mine the plan is to just build that one into a beast for taking to car festivals with a big V8 and like black primer paintjob. Just no frills but a crazy engine.

I wanna put the 3.5 in mine with the turbo. Yes, it will be awesome. And I want to get a motorcycle to save on gas.

Nice. I'm scared of motorbikes. I hurt myself enough on BMX bikes, I don't need an engine to help me go faster :haha

All this tal of cars is killing me, I can't drive over here in England, it's one of the things I miss most about home.
Back to blues! I finally got Chulahoma and it's pretty rocking. Getting some Junior Kimbrough albums now aswell. The new Counting Crows is still dominating my playlists though, it's quite good.
Also did anyone ever notice that Jeff Buckley was actually a pretty kickass guitarist? Was listening to Live at Sin-e and he plays loads of good fiddly bluesy stuff, gets a great full sound considering it's just him, a Tele, and epic reverb.
