The Carrier - No Love Can Save Me EP (very, very depressing, focusing on knowing that there's no God to save us when the world ends)

Carpathian - Isolation (lyrics have improved so much now that Marty has replaced Crafter as vocalist. Plus I'm a fanboy)

how can you be hardcore and depressed at the same time? kind of an oxymoron. kinda like wearing all harley clothes and hopping on a vespa.

Wait what?! Hardcore isn't about being posi, it's about being angry.

YOU GOTTA STAY NEGATIVE!

I'm pretty sure most original hardcore was negative. It wasn't about the "message", just the "get the fuck out of my face".

NEGI.

i like negative, but bleak and depressed? i prefer oppressed and angry in my hardcore.

Internal Chaos

Nothing wrong with a bit of depression. I'm sure plenty of the guys in the current hardcore scene have depression or bipolar or something, probably mostly in the posi scene. Looking to something better, making a change, turning edge, etc.

I prefer the depressed stuff because not only do I relate to the lyrics more but I feel like when it's live, the whole audience has a connection to those words. Take The Carrier for example. I have never seen them live, but I can only imagine how emotional I'll be when I do see them. Carpathian, who are a step below them when it comes to lyrical skill and integrity almost brought me to tears because I get so passionate when I scream their lyrics.

But then again, that's what hardcore is to me. Some people get into hardcore for rebellion, others get into it because of the positive message. I get into it because of the bleak and negative message because I love being in the same room as a few hundred people who either have the same view as me, or I love standing front row letting all my anger and hatred out by sharing the mic with my favourite bands. For me it's an escape, writing lyrics is a chance for me to get all my anger out, and for some reason, being in a room with 150 people screaming "I hate humanity, I hate instinctively, I hate this fucking world for fucking hating me" while holding each others shoulders with their hands in the air staring straight at the band is one of the things I live for.

But that's what hardcore is for me.

How is Modern life is war bleak? They have some of the most uplifting, "push forward" lyrics I have ever heard.

"Scrape your heart from the bottom of the barrel, keep your faith in the path that's going narrow, kill the doubt, inside your head, we over come, we push ahead"

"why should we take advice from the boring working braindead? we're forward thinking youth we can use our own hands"

"cause heaven knows you're sinking, and I know we're much the same, to cheers to our rebel hearts, not just another **** you, but a bedside love song, for a chosen few"

etc

"What the **** are you going to do kid? Still rattling at the chains of the gates of the world but you can't quite pretend."

"He's gonna get his revenge.
He's gonna crucify himself for the world's sweet sweet sins."

"John and Jimmy...
Say a prayer for us...
The passive sinners."

"There's no one but me in the streets of my hometown.
I've already said too much.
I'm all lovesick for endless broken white lines.
And I say to all the young wild ones...
For you...
Yeah on your way up...
The world isn't against you, my dear, it just doesn't care."

"I'm in an awful state.
It's getting late and I'm full of question.
My overactive mind has been wastin' all my time.
So I've been wandering aimless every night and sleeping every day."

"Sometimes the boys that should be yours best friends become strangers with familiar faces."

"They'll get you when you're ugly and you're feeling alone.
In this modern life...
Cheap and disconnected...
Where there is a siege going on and the besieged will be the last to know
That the race we are running is a joke,
And I'm a dropout.
Drop-Out."

"I know this won't be the last time I sing
"These dreams will be my anchor.
These dreams will be the death of me."
Through all this I've been feeling like
I'm slowly burning out...
Nothing is all bad...
Nothing is quite right.
So I kept inking and screaming from my room...
The only way I know how to...
I'm calling out to you."

Pretty bleak.
